@shane69999 tommy did tour with john sykes (thin lizzy) while ws was not active and coverdale couldn't stand it. u know, the thing between sykes and coverdale. so coverdale basicly fired tommy.
Always one of the greatest drummers to hear, and absolutely amazing to watch in concert! Saw Whitesnake open for Motley Crue years ago at Madison Square Garden, and Tommy Aldridge effortlessly buried Tommy Lee by a landslide! No spinning drum kits in the air, no tricks, no excessively foul mouth....just good, hardcore dedication and great technique. Always a great drummer, always humble and respectable, and a complete gentleman about the entire affair.
TOTAL MIS-MATCH - I love TA but he is NOT NOT NOT the right look, feel, or anything, for this band and this song too... what the fuck was he or they thinking!!!???
I've been a A fan ever since the '70s. When I was a R&R kid, he totally influenced how I played drums... having said that, WTF is this crazy shit he is doing??? This is actually disturbing. It is like he is having some kind of spastic FIT or something, I have no idea what this is. Anyone else find this video super strange, or is it just me???
Tommy is an awesome drummer, however I don`t think he suits the Lizzy songs....they are all "beaten up" with such a powerful drumming. The only one with the right Lizzy feel is Brian Downey!
@DSCRAPRE I agree. Travis Barker is only good at SMASHING his drums. People thing 'famous' is the same as 'talent'. If I saw Barker on my kit, I would say "get the hell off of there buddy, you're ruining my drums and you SUCK!"
watched a few of tommy's vids and the guy reminds me of myself...out of control, unprofessional, hitting harder than needed doing more work, and crap, with the odd moment of brilliance.
I'd love to have seen Tommy laying down the track, 'Boom Boom Out go the Lights' what I'd thought were tom tom triples were actually his double bass. Good Gawd! what a drummer!
Sweet Jesus, he's good. Saw him play for Ted Nugent way back when and he just fucking pounds on 'em. Tommy, wherever you are, you are a living legend.
I'm pretty sure we (almost 85% of undiscovered drummers can play better than Tommy Lee-at least I can.O.K. he might have a bigger dick but I can outplay that clown any given day-and I don't need a special rotating stage or fireworks.Take that...
Dave Abruze? Good drummer no where near Aldridge, he is a legend. Double bass drumming clinic put on by tommy on Pat Travers Band Live Go For What You Know. Or on Pat Travers. Check that album out!!

maybe less time flailing the sticks in the air ? That little "around the head" thing he does with his left hand was invented by the other Tommy... Lee.....
@tonyskiens ey guy. ur right. Tommy LEE made it more popular. But Tommy ALDRIDGE made this moves back in the 70´s^^ check his Black Oak Arkansas Solo for example
I saw him do the best drum solo I've ever seen with a 30 min. standing ovation in sacramaneto Ca. didn't see him do that gay little stick around the head, but his Quads set a new standard. Tommy a. can pound little tommy L. into oblivion...
kids think guys like joey jordenson are bad ass, thay have no idea where these new guys got their licks, from tommy aldridge!!!!tommy has been playing like this for 40 plus years!
I saw Tommy play a 10 min. solo with his hands back in 1975 in Las Vegas. Black Oak Arkansas opened up for Montrose. Tommy is a fucking living legend and seeing him in this video play with such excxitement & passion is very inspiring!!!! That is what rock & roll is all about!!!!
Such great spirit...it doesn't matter who performs this song. If it's done well and with heart and soul, much like this performance, it will always sound good. That's a testament to how good the composition is. This song is a timeless classic. Tommy Aldridge a legend.
Tommy always amazes me no matter how many times I watch him. That little 5 piece is screamin mercy!! haha However that lil punk ass TRYIN to sing should be forever thankful to even stand in the same room with Aldridge. What rock did they find that prick under?

Well, no. What's so exceptional about what he's doing here? It's just a simple beat, nothing exceptional at all. In fact, he's just pounding on his instrument without texture, or feel. But, I suppose this is the type of song that wouldn't require very much "feel" of the instrument anyway. The best drummers are usually the guys who learn to play other instruments BEFORE taking up the drums, or percussion in general.
terrafirma91 2 years ago
ya i see where your going. that does make sense. i saw him do this last week at a drum clinic and there were many other drummers with different styles and he was the heavier sounding one.
sk8pwner9 2 years ago
The "heavier" sounding drummers, as Aldridge is, do well with Metal, or Alternate. A good sense of rhythm is imperative, like Breaking Benjamin's drummer, who has an excellent feel for rhythm. I've seen some amateurs use incessant, loud cymbal crashes, and rolls that don't enhance the song they're playing. Some guys think they have to be center stage, I suppose.
terrafirma91 2 years ago
well to be the center of the stage is tommys gig. he does that for a living. especially with ozzy ozbourne but it does make more sense to have the grove and feel such as breaking Benjamin's drummer
