High Performance disables power saving features but does not make your CPU faster than it's capable, nor will it cause damage as some have stated. Google 'processor power management', 500 characters is not enough to explain it.
In Vista, I noticed Power Saver did limit the CPU speed on AC to 50% by default and one remedy is to set it to High Performance. You can also change 'Maximum processor state' to 100% in the plan settings under 'Processor power management'. Win 7 should be set correctly.
High Performance can actually use more CPU. Let me tell you why, if your running a game that hogs CPU like GTA IV, or your CPU isn't really good for the game you'll get hell lag. Your computer might even lock up at 100% CPU usage.
IM USING WINDOWS 95 I NEED TO INCREASE CPU PERFORMANCE ON MY i7 IT TAKES TOO FAST TO OPEN FILE I NEED TO SLOW IT DOWN TO SPEED MY BRAIN WORKS AT I AM MEMBER OF WESTBORO BAPTIST CHURCH I HOPE YOU UNDERSTAND
(Coming from a laptop user) This DOES increase performance, but (As windows will tell you) it KILLS your battery life. (Not just for the next few hours- Permanently). I wouldn't recommend doing this for long periods of time, as my battery only holds 10 minutes of charge now.
@redxii1234 Start at the part where you're wrong about me being wrong. High performance mode wears graphics cards down faster, end of story. If you have a valid explanation otherwise, please explain instead of just pointing out who you think is wrong.
@F3ARL388 Desktop/Laptop GPUs use lower clock speeds when idle. What wears down hardware is heat, and you can only cause a component to heat up is if you put a load on it or poor cooling or ventilation/maintenance (e.g. dust).
Correlation does not equal causation, just because you changed it to High Performance and your GPU failed you can't say for certain that was the cause. If anything failures are likely caused by lack of care, people (laymen) treating them as if they were indestructible.
@redxii1234 So high performance mode makes hardware run at full capacity rather than the more limited capacity of the other modes? Which I imagine causes heating to occur more rapidly, and cause some damage if not properly ventilated. I didn't explain it in the first comment but by the time a person with a well used laptop tries this mode, they probably have a pretty thick layer of dust that will accelerate the wear and tear due to heat. We are in agreement: correlation and not causation.

@nelizmastr I'm not surprised it was set by default but many other computers have it as power saver just like mine. I'm trying to to get the word out to the youtubers that there is an extra boost to the people who didn't know there was a high perfomance option.
Plus I did this before, but accidentally changed themes, and blam...
Except I went into a bunch of different tabs, clicked a few buttons, and did something like clicking "Best Performance" In which almost all the checks were unchecked on the... List... Thing.

You guys can try high performance mode, but be warned it can fry your graphics card if you have a laptop.
