  • Not bad but I see you faded out just as the bass line was about to get busy! That was slick but I caught you, didn't I? Nice try though! Keep it up and when you learn the full song, redo.

  • Jamersonshook - you know you're my favorite bass clinic cat on YouTube, but you must give a better listen to this tune. I'm not talking about your chops. It's deeper than that. Listen more, practice and try again.

  • very nice!

  • Great work!

  • That is amazing. Well done.

  • very nice job at 0:50 that s the trickiest part of this wonderful bass line

i spent hours only on this part to get it right

  • do have the tabs

  • I love that song, one of the best Jamerson lines ever IMO. Very well executed.

After watching it about 5 times, I just noticed you're playing it with only the index finger like Jamerson did, good job :)

  • the beginning of this song is the best!!!

    GREAT BASSLINE!!!!

  • Good job .see if you can help me with whats going on. Im a nubee

  • made me smile...good work...

  • have you got the tabs?

  • I have to admit I was skeptical at first but the young man did it! He made the Bass sing. I love it!!!!!!

  • The beauty of British musicians is their HIGH regard for the American Black Musician of the Motown/Stax era. Not even today's black musicians share that regard.

Thanks for keeping the spirit of the groove alive, jamersonshook.

  • damn son. you can play like no other man can. i wish i lived in the uk, i would hunt you down and make you teach me. ahah.keep groovin man

  • NIce style. JJ is not easy to imitate, but you did a good job.

    God bless

  • I could! Straight off. Hihi.

  • It's 9:39 Friday night 4/4/2008, 40 years since MLK's assasination, Marvins message so strong & relevant today. Had seen your post before, but never clicked on it. Nice playing of the late great Jamerson, very soulful and sweet. Wish there was more music like that around today, would be nice to jam with you, keep up the good work, you've got great potential. Marvin & Jamerson, super talented legends no longer with us, but still so ever alive in our hearts & music,PEACE!

  • nice tone, you should try that with flat wounds.... that soul, R&B, motown sound is so smokey.....

  • Very good efforts in your posts. It's obvious that you love the Jamerson sound. That's the first step toward understanding the Jamerson sound; the love of the sound.

Stay with it. Go deeper into times and the circumstances that shaped Jamerson and the Motown sound - Civil Rights movement, Detroit riots, assassinations, dogs, hoses, etc. Motown took that and made beauty out of it.

  • never forget the folks who gave everything so we could someday be there digg! nice basslines, so miss this brothers music! and His young bassplayer into the seventies was also off the hook!

  • Not bad for a 1st take my friend..a little flub, but hey..those shoes will never quite be filled...have u gotten any[worthy] gigs from ur videos being posted?..man, I would have alotta fun playing witchu - too bad u're not in the states...anyways..

How bout some Chuck Rainey (Main Ingredient, Aretha era)? - betchu could kill that too..

    Thanks a bunch!!

  • Cheers - I could do with lots more hours in the day to have a proper go at it. I've not got any gigs or sessions yet - I never really thought it might lead to any but you never know...

I'm gonna put a little Chuck Rainey playalong up for ya!

  • Does anyone actually know what the chord progression of this song is because i've always wanted to know? Thanks in advance.

  • Obviously dedicated a lot of time to James Jamerson. great playing as always.

  • Cheers!

  • shit man... this baseline always sends a little shock through my body

  • LOL - JJ does that a lot....

  • @TheFabFoo me too man.

  • LOL Very Good! But it is a mother of a bassline ain't it?

  • Thanks! It's a great line - I love it. Hope to find some more time to get some more of it up here..

  • And you still don't have What's Going On!

  • LOL - surely Jason Long's version is good enough for you?!

  • You know it's not!!!

  • Man, you're hard to please! LOL, OK - I'll try to post some of it - but I'll bet you now it's not gonna be as good as Jason's version...

  • Ay, don't let me pressure you. It's your channel. I just know you would nail WGO. Plus it would be hard to watch such a Jamerson fan not have it lol!

But again, I have to recommend Darling Dear, one of my favs. It isn't well covered, with I think one, though very good cover, by Mikeybass777. Also, I Want You Back also by the Jackson Five, just because no one can play it quite right.

  • looks like you got it to me..thats whats happening brother

  • cheers!
