so the original lupin retired. he surrendered his name to Yasuo. right? I think he (the original red jacket one) was the old man in the bookstore. i remember a scene where jigen goemon and fujiko gave him a visit. but it was a really short scene. if you are not paying close attention, you may miss it.

Lupin the 3rd Green has been tested in the old man of the bookstore. Finally, Lupin the 3rd green becomes the next Lupin. Works other than hidden a lot of information. Yasuo and yukiko named has meaning as well. Other characters are subtly aged. Likewise the voice actors.

It's all real Lupin. Haven't seen many series, and do not understand. Lupine is suit appearing in that era. Changing. There are a lot of Lupin. Last scene "last but not least was now the new Lupin ” that tells Word. We know original Lupine is retired old man of the bookstore.

I'm also of the opinion that it's non-canon. It was just a fun romp for the anniversary and was making a poke at the fans.

Kinda telling the fan base not to worry if a movie director does his Lupin a little differently in looks or attitude or if green jacket is better than red jacket.

That as long as they embody that same spirit of freedom, then they are Lupin. And that's all that matters.

And I can roll with that.

What this movie is telling us is that it doesnt exist a real LUPIN the III...this movie also tells us that there were different Lupin's...i really like this movie but to me its a non cannon movie...There is only one Lupin the third!

At the end the green lupin retired. He was the real lupin. As Zenigata is chasing the red lupin in the last scene he says something along the lines as 'this is a new one'. So the real lupin retired and the red lupin is now the real lupin...

I honestly didn't care for the idea of this movie. It was good, don't get me wrong. But in my mind there's only one lupin.

@ZebraconProductions wait, then why did jigen ask the red lupin why he was "testing" the green lupin, and it was shown that the green lupin was not, he was a the fake, the showd him getting the green jacket and the walter from that old guy, so...what?

@ZebraconProductions Then why didn't Fugiko, Goemon, and Jigen recognize him? One's gotta think why he went into hiding. And if the Red Lupin was not the original then where did he come from? Was he one of the many Lupins? Or did Green and Red switch jackets at the end?

No, actually, they did recognize Yasuo acting as Lupin, if you listen to the conversation between the trio on the bridge. Both Jigen and Goemon were just playing along. They instantly recognized the original red when he showed up. Fujiko also knew it, since Yasuo the green Lupin asked her to accept him as Lupin after they successfully steal Ice Cube. At the end, the original Red retired, the green became the new Lupin, wearing now the red jacket.

Huh? What? No, the red Lupin was the original. The green Lupin's real name was Yasuo. At the end, the original retired, while Yasuo took the Lupin name and is no longer Yasuo but the real Lupin. In terms of being real, both of them were Lupin, as even Zenigata couldn't distinguish which was the original, during the rainy bridge scene.
