When you mentioned the terminology "Megachurch"...I figured there'd be corruption with the pastor amidst...To me, a megachurch is a stadium-sized phony assembliy-line redemption ministry institution with a very large food court (Wow! Even a Starbucks), and ATM's all over the place..."Megadollars" is more the word...
No church has ever used any force against me to believe anything or to take my money. Can you say the same about the government? Everything the govt does is by force. A tax is money taken by force. Public skools are compulsory and paid for by money taken by the threats of and use of violence. Why are atheists so against religions that don't use violence but seem to support government which is only about initiating violence against others?
Hey Angie, fellow atheist here. I ran across your vids today and saw this one. The reason I was commenting is because me and my family started attending Bishop Swilleys church back in 1990. We were, and my folks still are, a big part of his ministries for years. I can attest that he never spoke poorly about homosexuals or anyone really. He teaches a very liberal and inclusive Christianity. I would probably never tell him this, but his ministry actually started me down the path to my deconversion
I'm kind of concerned that you are telling us to play nice, and be inclusive. Then you tell people that are Christians, that they are deluded. I respect that you have made a choice to be an atheist, or anti-theist. But I saw a whole lot of hypocrisy just then :)x
@ironcross66106 you are SO ignorant. Being gay isn't a choice, people kill them selves because they don't want to be homosexual but were just born that way. I, amongst many other people are deeply offended by your narrow minded comment.
@KatieWilkinsonmusic just curious as to your view on bi-sexual's, were/are "they just born that way"?, also, what about those who have been straight for 20 years then decide to become bi.
Lastly, do gays get bored with being gay after 20years then decide to go straight? Thanks.
@GST20101 Well i'm bisexual and yes, bisexual people were born that way, same as straight and gay people. And someone dosent "decide" to become bi, they may have just been in the closet for a long time or not found a person who they were attracted to being the same gender. To be honest, I don't really believe in labels, I mean, if I like a guy, I'm straight, but if I like a girl I'm gay.... But really, I just love who I love, it's about the person, not the genitals.. You have no controle over...
@GST20101 Who you fall in lve with. And it shouldn't matter whether they have a penis or a vagina. Also, gay people don't get bored! Thay are attracted to people of the same gender and can't change that because they are "bored" unfortunately, there are some people who pretend to be bisexual to get attention ect but they are just fakes and a minority.
@KatieWilkinsonmusic Perhaps the gay crew could just go to the shop for some anti gay pills? lol, but surely there must be some who have been gay for 20years then decide to "come out" of the straight wardrobe & revert to being "straights"?.
From my work i see a common pattern, that being: often there is some physical predisposition but with effectively %100 of the crew i''v heard "tipping point diversions"- such as poor treatment or poor example from the opposite sex somewhere along the way.
@ironcross66106 Being gay is not a choice for God's sake, why would anyone decide to be gay, knowing that you could get horribly discriminated and killed for it? Don't pull the typical "It's the demos that make you want to be like that" crap that christians use.
This is great. ;) Thanks for sharing. I watched the interview and it was nice, I definitely respect Christians who try so hard to be good/moral/inclusive/honest etc even though I don't see why they're believing in something that doesn't exist. XD
Yeah him coming out was GREAT!!!!! His kid's no longer have a strong family structure way to go preacher way to set an example! This is the saddest thing i've ever heard.
@kindahokey I bet they DO have a family structure, a much healthier one that both Angie and I had. You can still see both of your parents frequently if they're divorced and live near each other. XD
@luvtheheavenAGAIN I don't care why a man runs out on his family whether it's with some other women or some other man i don't care he's still no man I respect
@kindahokey He's not running out on his family, from what it sounded like in the interview he's not leaving for a man, it doesn't even sound like he's necessarily seeing anyone else... he's leaving because their marriage has no sexual attraction in it and now that the public knows it'd be too weird to stay married.
@luvtheheavenAGAIN Oh excuse me running out on his family because he's impotent nope not an excuse......Not where human lives are concerned sorry. When will this world learn children become adults we teach them how to act just by living our lives i don't want my son growing up thinking it's okay for him to run out on his family no matter what his excuses may be i guess i just hold men to a high standard ie .......so they can be respected.
@kindahokey He's not stopping being a parent or abandoning his children. I don't respect abusive nor neglectful parents, nor ones who "run out on their family", male or female. He falls into none of the categories though. I don't get why you think so negatively of him.
@luvtheheavenAGAIN Because i have criteria. When a man takes a sacred vow before God he should probably take it even the least bit seriously don't you think? One thing i know about this man is he breaks vows that makes him someone who doesn't keep his word If he can't keep a promise to the God of the universe why should he keep one to a mere mortal. I don't respect men who don't keep their word.
The only reason I challenge you is because of the bold claim you made, on one of these videos, about being versed in these areas. You even claimed to know the bible very well. Yet, you have proven you know nothing about religion. Just because you grew up with some over-zealous Jesus freaks doesn't qualify you as being in a "cult" either haha. I'm just trying to bring you UP to my level before we start debating anything. Otherwise I would feel like I'm talking about Sesame Street to a 3-year-old.
@7danyul7 Then go make your own video (you do get up to 15 mins) or become content with the idea that people don't know what you're rambling on about.
@AngieAntiTheist I just find it funny out of all the comments I left, you only responded to the comments where I am NOT challenging you or asking you real questions. You chose to answer the easy ones. I would make a video, but I don't feel like I need validation from a world I would like to see burn to the ground anyway. Thank you for proving how empty you really are and for showing you wouldn't last 5 minutes with anybody actually versed on almost any tipoc you bring up.
@AngieAntiTheist If someone doesn't know what I am rambling about, it is only because they lack the intellect to process what I am saying. I like to think I keep things fairly simple and easy to understand. If you are claiming I have said nothing, it is only because you have the comprehension skills of an earthworm. You have no desire to e mail me because you have no desire to be constantly shown how much you don't know haha. That's ok. You're boring and I'm done bothering with you anyway.
I'm just challenging the premises behind your belief system. What you do or don't believe doesn't concern me. What concerns me is the lack of confidence behind your claims.
So you like messages of acceptance, but you hate the idea of a god and hate those who buy into the idea?. Wouldn't that make you unaccepting toward those who do believe in a god? Your rambling is incessant, benighted, and antithetical. Angie, your logic is weak and you have little to no premise backing up your conclusions. If you're going to be atheist, at least be educated about it. Your "street corner" philosophy doesn't fly with people who actually use their minds; atheist or not.
@AngieAntiTheist My claim is your arguments are based on uneducated popular belief and backed up by nothing. Where would you like me to start? Give me a starting point and I can tell you where you are wrong. I am pretty sure I made some good points and even challenged your knowledge on certain topics you spoke of. It's not my fault they went over your head. You can send me an e mail on here if you want to take this off of the comment board.
@7danyul7 I have no desire to send you an email. I'm still waiting to see if you have anything to add. Beyond ad hominems, you apparently don't. This is a pity, but not something that's likely to make me want to continue the frustration of talking to an utter tool.
@AngieAntiTheist That's fine. I will just smear you across your own video posts like I have been for the last few days. Why don;t you answer my other questions concerning different religions. You come off as some kind of religious scholar when you don't even seem to be able to decipher the differences between Muslims and Christians. I remember correcting you on a particular belif in the Muslim faith, but you chose to ignore that.
@AngieAntiTheist Please show me where I used ad hominems that were fallacious... I can show you how white trash comments like "utter tool" only seem to solidify my comments about your lack of education or even having basic knowledge of what you're talking about and being able to back it up. I will answer you as soon as you answer the several other points I made. I even kept them super simple. Do you want them to be more challenging?
@AngieAntiTheist I'm still waiting to see if YOU have anything real to add. You don't even know the difference between Muslims and Christians. I had to correct you on the role of Jesus (Isa) in the muslim faith. It only matters because you choose to use them as examples. It's great you choose to ignore responding to those comments. You didn't even answer my simple question about Krishna and Vishnu ( you could have even googled that. Instead, you chose to use insults such as "utter tool."
You can't possibly expect anyone to waste their time listening to you opinion if you cannot simply demonstrate that you have one worth listening to in the first place. All you have done is claim that Angie's arguments are flawed without even attempting to support such claims.
A whole world of knowlege is out there, often just a few hundred books away. stop wasting our time (and more importantly your own) by blindly spooning your own ignorance.
I take all my cues from wild life and I've learned SO MUCH about humans through studying animals. There are quite a few animals that take part in homosexuality. Seeing that humans are animals too, it is also in our nature NOT that everyone is born that way of course. Problem with humans is we think too much and with thinking too much comes a huge and I mean HUGE amount of ideals that we've created that only cause stress, pain and suffering.
@Angieantitheist it don't matter what you think because God made this universe. There is no other reason why he made man and woman and that is for each other and to make children. You don't have to warn me cause unlike you I know what I'm talking about and I also think it should be unlawful for gay couples to adopt and raise children because they are confused enough if they see thier gay parents living a gay life style they will think it's ok and it's not ok. It's sinful and nasty.
@keithbyrd10 Wow you are just nothing but bigotry and homophobia. I see no reason to allow you to continue spouting nonsense.
Guess what dumb ass? THERE ARE QUEER DOLPHINS! They're GAY and have blow-hole sex. Homosexuality is as natural as heterosexuality.
Every study done has shown that children of gay parents (WANTED children) do better in school & socially, and are no more likely to be gay than kids of straight parents. Fucking learn basic facts, you bigot.
@Angieantitheist. When God made me a man he made a woman for me to be with not another man. Why do you think God put women here on earth for? Can't people understand that God made man and woman for a reason. Man and woman can make children not two of the same sex.
@keithbyrd10 Unlike you, I don't think women are here "for" procreation or your pleasure.
Our species is not in danger of becoming extinct from lack of procreation. And hey, since when is marriage about babies? Are you saying that infertile people shouldn't be allowed to get married? (Be warned: There isn't a single argument against gay marriage that doesn't also apply to straight marriage.)
@Angieantitheist your pastor you talk about is not a Christian because real Christians do not decieve people they tell them the truth about Jesus instead of lies. Whether you believe it or not but being gay is a sin it is a unnatural, immoral and Nasty CHOICE. What do you chose heaven or hell
It's like in Egypt, when Coptic Christians were targeted in bombings, and the Muslims of the area stood around them to protect them from Islamic extremists. Any act of kindness is great, and a step forward, in my eyes.
@dd1987x I love that story. In the past three weeks, the Coptic Christians in Egypt have been protecting the Muslims during their Friday prayers from Mubarak's secret police. What do you know? Being good neighbors is a better policy :)
Lets say i am a christian pastor. I decide to live a life of (name any sin) I should no longer be a Pastor. I am a (bad example,Hippocrite, deceiving ,) misleading my flock.Pastors are called to live a life at a higher standard. If you are going to preach the Bible you have to live it. Your old testament references are out of context. New Testament Covenant (Christians)
@goruby2 If my "old testament references are out of context" then so is your Old Testament homophobic bigotry! Ta-da! They come from the same chapter of Leviticus. If you can shave your beard now b/c those laws don't count under the New Covenant, then you can be gay too. Jesus never said anything about homosexuality & Paul only quoted what was said in the OT. Nothing NEW hating gays come after the "new covenant."
@AngieAntiTheist And He answered and said, “Have you not read that He who created them from the beginning made them male and female, and said, ‘For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh’? Matthew 19. And a person can be a homosexual if they choose too be, and I am I christian where I have the right to speak with them and warn them about the dangers of their act. The diseases they can get, and such.
A Christian Pastor practicing a homosexual lifestyle is not a christian pastor. Please don't mislead people into thinking the God of the Bible allows this. The bible warns of the deception of men. This Pastor can no longer be considered a reliable teacher of the Bible
@goruby2 By your standard any Christian pastor practicing a shellfish eating lifestyle, a beard shaving lifestyle, or a poly-blended fabric wearing lifestyle is not a Christian pastor. The Bible calls all of these things abominations right alongside homosexuality.
Oh and you're not a True Christian by these standards if you don't stone people to death every time the Old Testament says to. Have fun serving a life sentence in maximum security prison!
@ProudHumanist Do you not know the man loved his stuff more than He loved God, and this why Jesus said this too him. I can have stuff, but loving it more than God is not right. The my stuff becomes an idol to me. Don't be a heretic.
Not only am I a heretic, but also a skeptic and critic of the poisons created by the man made idea of theism. It's totally obsurd how Christians "pick and choose" what scriptures to follow while ignoring other scriptures due to inconvenience (or disagreement).
@ProudHumanist I agree it is obsurb how those call themselves christians, and possibly are not? Not everyone who says to me, 'Lord, Lord,' will enter the kingdom of heaven, but the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven.
@ProudHumanist You made me smile with this!!!!! I love when you actually point this out to them and they just wave it off - cause it's something they don't like to acknowledge they do! Their beliefs only matter when they are convenient for them! I also love how they talk to people like their belief is the only one that counts. Stop being a heretic - well if I don't believe in your religion then I'm not being one! Truth is no one knows the truth - they only believe they do!!!!!
discernment: Spiritual gift that enables a believer to distinguish between good and evil and between right and wrong, and to recognize what is hidden or obscure to the spiritually immature.
Why does the world tell Christians about tolerance, and yet in return fail to give it themselves? This is hypocritical and makes the world to be a bunch of hypocrites, and yes there is those who think they are christian cause they do nice things and say the name christian who won't make it too heaven, Matthew 7. Also why do non-believers judge believers by their own standard or the standard of some pastor and not what the Word of God say's? Is this not making a nonbeliever a judge? See Romans 12
@Shoots1978 I judge people on the standard of whether or not they're a decent human being (as determined by how their actions impact other humans around them.)
It's a much better basis for a moral code than the Bible. (My moral code doesn't permit slavery OR rape!)
@AngieAntiTheist If I may suggest too you, a new book by John MacArthur called,"slave" this will give you a true understanding of what slave is. Please be open with discernment to check this out. Thank-you very much.
@Shoots1978 Lol, back when I went to church, believed, etc. I was often told discernment was one of my "spiritual gifts". That same character trait led me to questioning which led me to atheism. So my "spiritual gift" was the gift of ... atheism.
@Shoots1978 No, I was a Christian. I wasn't "faking" it. I believed. I was brainwashed from before my first memories to believe in Jesus and God's love and the Bible. Then I grew UP and studied history and science and Biblical canon history and the whole story fell apart.
As soon as I stopped believing, I came out as an atheist. Dishonesty is not my stock in trade.
@Shoots1978 You mention John MacArthur I happen to believe he is one of the best example of a True Bible Preachers today. You got questions He can answer them.
@ProudHumanist How else does a Jewish guy's personality cult based on Jewish prophecies turn into one of the most consistently, historically anti-semitic religions out there? It's all Paul's fault. "Hey, gentiles, come on in! Don't worry about the foreskin or the pork, really!"
I hope you're feeling better...I remember when I had the stomach flu a couple years ago...Lost like ten pounds a week...It was horrible!
Glad that preacher is being honest with who he is but it seems the end of your video was contradictory. It seems you are talking about tolerance but then you bash the religious for believing in God calling them "delusional." You just have different beliefs. We should not be discriminatory towards anybody and that includes the religious.
@GarfieldSpecials2011@GarfieldSpecials2011 I don't say delusional to be "bashing" anyone. I'm very open about having mental illness myself. Believing in things that aren't there, hearing voices in your head, talking to ghosts or dead relatives - all of these things are delusions and fairly common. Put them in a codified religious context, and people have a socially acceptable outlet for delusion. It's not a character judgment or bash. We're all a little delusional.
I'm happy for all the gay people who are getting that extra support from anti-hate activities, however, as for me, I'm *still* straight! OK? don't anyone gimme any funny looks cause my comin out, ain't gonna happen! OK? It's not like I'm paranoid or nothin but if I'm hetero, I'm hetero, and that's that! *I'm honest*! I promise! : /
OH that made me so warm and fuzzy all over. You know it's funny, the father of a girl I went to high school with was also a pastor in a church, had 2 kids, and then came out a few years ago. The cognitions of the latent homosexual are so puzzling, yet so predictable. 1st step - You think you're gay so you turn to God 2nd step - You lie to everyone as you try to lead a straight life 3rd step - You finally say "fuck it" and come out, figuring better late than never. Good for him, nonetheless.
You like messages of "Inclusion, tolerance and acceptance"? That's not what I'm hearing. You vilify people here. (Oh, but liberals only like "tolerance" when they condone the message-- I forgot that part.)
Seems you have the tendency to go "whole hog" one way or the other. Christianity stopped "working" for you, so you've bought into the secularist dogma. Now you're just marching along like a good atheist sheeple, agreeing with every party line. You seem smart. Sad to see.
Angie, a fellow atheist her, just to thank you for making your videos, and especially this one. Recognizing this preacher for his humane approach to others, despite the hateful teachings of the bible, is quite commendable.
This is ridiculous. There is nothing that can come from homosexual "love". It was not designed for love to exist between a couple of the same sex. You cannot fit two bolts together, just like you cannot fit two nuts together. It is possible, however, for something to come from heterosexual love, like a child. That child is a result of that love and a constant sign of that love. That is something you cannot get from homosexual "love".
Shame that it takes Biology, not Love, to make a child. Shame that these Constant signs of love are all to often mistreated or abandoned by the 'Nuts and Bolts' that produced them. Good thing though, that there are people out there, hetro or homo, who are able and willing to provide real love, where biology dosn't suffice.
@TheBoyFromNorfolk I've never met a gay man in love and i've met many f.y.I drunken fighting, name calling ,profanity, and infidelity is not love. That goes for straights and gays by the way. With that criteria in mind i can say i've never met a gay couple in love i'm not saying they do all of these things but they all do one of those things. You must know how to love before you can give it to another.
I can think of several celebrity gay couples who have lasted a hell of a lot longer and seem much more loving than hetro celebrity gay couples, without needing to go into gay couples here on youtube or that I've met IRL. Gay people are just people, and everyone has flaws. But implying that they can't be in love, or give love is just untrue. Looking at the statistics, children of gay parents do equally as well, and I know the children of gay parents who are loved, and love.
@TheBoyFromNorfolk LOL Celebrity! that's laughable nobody knows anything about celebrity relationships gay or straight you know nothing of their relationships therefore you can not base a decision on something you know nothing about . In fact the more i read your comment the more your comment becomes moot you appear to not know any gay couples in real life. And you're wow sorry your whole comment is just sounding ridiculous at this point statistics lol i'm talking about experience not numbers.
So, you are disregarding reality, in favour of personal experience. That's like saying I've never met a woman who could drive a car, so women can't drive cars. it might be based off personal experience, but that doesn't make it true.
I used Celebrity because we'd both have them in common frame of reference, I can tell you about people I know IRL, but you won't know them, so why bother? Especially if you value personal experience over evidence, why bother telling you anything?
If what the witness is saying is in compatible with the forensic evidence, and the forensic evidence is sound and comprehensive, yes, yes they do. Eyewitnesses are notoriously unreliable. People have many times been convicted bye eyewitnesses, and exonerated by forensic evidence.
You say: 'you must know how to love before you can give it to another'.
Is it your contention then that a Gay person doesn't know how to love?
@TheBoyFromNorfolk They have the ability to love yes. Friends, family, ect..... i've just observed when it comes to their actual partner they don't do such a good job. I just don't think children should be exposed to gay relationships because of the turmoil. i think a single gay man could do a better job probably then a gay man in a relationship.Let me rephrase they don't ignore a "credible" eyewitness and only go on forensics The forensic people weren't there were they? were they??????
No, but the evidence was, all you then have to question is the interpretation of the evidence. If theres a credible eyewitness, and credible forensic evidence, then you reexamine them both until you resolve the conflict. And we're not talking about a single incident about which a witness is a good analogy. The Phrase that comes to mind here is: the Plural of Anecdote is not Evidence.
If you think Gay Couples shouldn't adopt, how about divorcees who remarry? They are also turmoiled
@kindahokey I would say gay parents in general are gonna be better then at least 50% maybe even 60% of str8 ones cause they actually plan to have them - therefore actually want them and subsequently aren't gonna do a half assed job at raising them. I have a few different gay friends that have amazing kids that are growing up happy and healthy. I'm not sure what gay relationships that you have been witness to but don't judge a group of 9 million plus based off of 4 or 5 people.
@ThatKidTy24 We may have different definitions and standards of a happy healthy kid. Many straight couples don't do a great job meeting these standards either i e 80% divorce rate and climbing. You have your opinion I have mine. I don't believe gay couples make very successful parents notice i didn't use the word just good, success goes all the way to adulthood not just "a happy healthy kid" And i say the same thing about a lot of straight parents there is a way to raise a successful adult....
@kindahokey I agree that U are entitled to your opinion but you're generalizing. That's not right and it leads me to wonder, do U generalize with other minorities? Do U think that all Blacks are criminals just because some R? Do U think that all Puerto Ricans R rude just because you know 1 that is? I feel like U have made your mind up about "Gays not being good parents" and nothing is gonna change that and that's a shame. If that's the case then there is really no point in this convo.
@jsimeon24 So all those instances of homosexual activity in animals (you know, like us) is what exactly...? The lions, the tigers, the bears...oh my, I believe that male lion and another male lion are about to share their pride.
I don't know who this man is, but it's refreshing to know that someone of high standing has come out; let's hope it will help start a new trend for tolerance and openmindedness. I hope he receives support from people of all backgrounds.
And I really appreciate the fact that his wife (who I assume is a practising Christian?) is now a friend, not an enemy to him...we need more people like that to be role models for the not-yet-brainwashed generations of people. Peace and thanks.
@cloudboheme According to the interview, she married him 21 years ago, knowing he was gay, but believing she & god could change him. She no longer believes that.
well, I like your vids. But I cannot agree with this one, in several ways. I will "refute" saying anything bad. I always wanted to use that word in an regular conversation. It could not have been easy for him, but when lil angels with the perceived moral high ground fall, They land hard. I would call it a risk of the profession.
Wow. That takes courage. I'm currently in the process of writing a book in protest of traditional religious views on homosexuality. It's nice to see people in religious power who have tolerance for it.
Sorry about the stomach virus thing. I don't want to bug you but you said you might take a look at the religion part of the Zeitgeist movie (hope you'll watch it all) to know how accurate you feel they are on it. Either way, luv ya, thanks.
@TheMechAlchemist Soon, I hope. I'm working on getting the money together to get on some anti-depressants. I'm just having a hard time functioning beyond dealing with my son's spectacularly bad behavior in school lately.
@AngieAntiTheist It may be out of price range, but I HIGHLY recommend biofeedback treatment/training. It permanently cures depression, without side effects, or harm. I did antidepressants for years, and they did help, but they also messed with me. Probably would not be here right now without the biofeedback.
@fresheyeball That may be something to look into when/if I get approved for SSD health care, but in the meantime, even anti-depressants are seriously out of my price range.
@atheistrage "But doesn't he still get rich by selling people fairy tales for their money and exploiting them with false hope?" Yes and no. False hope and making money? Yes. Is he intentionally exploiting people? That I couldn't say. I've had preachers who genuinely believed and really thought they were helping people. You can be a good person and a religious believer.
@AngieAntiTheist Don't get me wrong, that's great if he isn't preaching hate against gays like 99% of other christians do. Hopefully he doesn't preach hate against any minorities.
But (in my opinion) his tolerance for gays is most likely a direct result of him being one. If it weren't for that fact, he might well be openly condemning then right along side Pat Robertson.
These guys only care about themselves. Maybe he hopes to solict donations from new people with this approach.
@atheistrage "his tolerance for gays is most likely a direct result of him being one" And that very well may be true. I think tolerance/acceptance usually comes from exposure. Many people lack what I call empathetic imagination.
I'm not making ANY character judgments beyond what I covered in the video. I'm not familiar enough with the guy or his teachings to do so (unlike, say Rick Warren.) I just thought it was cool he took a personal reputation risk for the sake of saving gay teenagers.
@atheistrage "He was probably on the verge of getting found out anywny and simply chose to mitigate his damages rather the being the next Ted Haggrd."
That's where I won't jump with you. I haven't seen enough evidence yet to make that kind of conclusion. I'm wary to make judgments on the motives of others, and that wariness is proportional to my ignorance of that person. :)
@AngieAntiTheist That's a good point, and perhaps I am guilty of putting all these well dressed evangelists in the same preverbial boat. Obviously I don't have any insight into his mind.
However after watching your video, I looked at a few video clips of Mr. Swilley and listened to some of his sermon, and I didn't see much of a reason to consider him any different.
Basically, just by selling older people "Heaven", he's kind of a low life in my book.
@atheistrage "However after watching your video, I looked at a few video clips of Mr. Swilley and listened to some of his sermon, and I didn't see much of a reason to consider him any different."
You have done more research and thus your opinion may very well be closer to the truth. I don't claim to know one way or the other. You're right - he may have been about to go down in a giant scandal though I didn't see shame on his face (just disgust at Ted Haggard) during the Behar interview.
@AngieAntiTheist Yeah, (in my opnion) he just stands there and tells outrageous lies (above & beyond what's even in the bible) to a transfixed crowd of mostly older people.
I haven't seen the Behar interview, but in most cases sincerity can by attributed to good acting skills.
Obviously neither one of us value the bible much, but I find these pious con mans types who use religion as a tool to be extra dispicable (or perhaps deep down I'm just jealously of their scam).
I find your appearance attractive. Whatever you did with your hair - good call.
Oh, and I'd also like to comment that ... I always find it strange when I know a guy and he thinks nobody is aware that he's gay. I know a number of men in this situation .. and it's always a tough call on whether to just say 'come on man, stop talking about tits all the time, I know you're gay' because they might think that if they admitted it out loud it would be a bad thing ...
This is hilarious to me, where I live we're always getting news about the "right-side", abortion laws and how rape victims keep their babies and, "hey lets not pass this gay law right now, we're not ready, you know you're not ready for it!" But then something that should be pretty big news, is nowhere to be found, except on Youtube. If I had trust in the news I watch, I would have just lost it.
Thank you for sharing, this will be interesting to watch unfold.
You know he won't be a preacher for long. The church will kick him out.I myself don't see what the big deal is with people being gay.So what! their people too.
@ashatbulaparanormal "You know he won't be a preacher for long. The church will kick him out." Maybe, maybe not. He's pastor & his ex-wife is associate pastor & neither one of them preached a homophobic message. They have openly gay members of their congregation. It doesn't sound like a church that would attract the most homophobic Christians, ya know?
I wish the gay preacher kudos too. I say this wishing that at ten years old I would have been able to shag Cheryl Tiegs without being labelled as a victim.
Everyone needs to get the fuk over the bible. I like the comment below, God forbids homosexuality, yeah and he forbids the consumption of shrimp as well, which I happen to find even more erotic than two men banging the crap out of each other or two gals getting down and dirty on the carpet, [so long as the shrimp is grilled and I've got a beer].
Well glad you feel better Angie <3 oh and that is awesome that a preacher finally isnt a total dick about this and also not a hypocrite XD I thought id never see the day!
Maybe if they can't live a life without worshiping a god, then maybe they should go look for a god that doesn't hate gay people (if there is such a religion), cause the bible makes it a bit too clear that gays aren't accepted in that religion.
@ateopuertorico The Bible also forbids shrimp as a meal. There's difference of opinion and interpretation when it comes to things like that. Otherwise there wouldn't be different sects. You should check out the gay christian websites. There's a few on the internet. One actually goes into the idea of accepted customs and how they change.
@arthereld To be fair, the shrimp industry is one of the most unsustainable and ecologically damaging of all food industries. So, if all the Crispies were actually not eating shrimp, we'd have a little bit of good for the oceans. Alas...
@BionicDance Perhaps it's just my straightness that limits my knowledge in this area, but I was under the impression that "gay" encompassed male and female homosexuals.
@BionicDance Yeah, I figured the goofball thing, but I used it as an opportunity to ask a question that was sort of on my mind before. It left my mind till I saw your comment, I'll have to ask my gay friends about it. We just don't get into any deeper conversation than, "we need to go karaoking tonight and have some beers."
@arthereld Well, the problem is that there is no consensus, really.
I'd say the majority agree with what you'd asserted in your question, that "gay" encompassed male and female homosexuality. But a mildly vocal minority wants to keep them separate, some out of ideology and some just for the sake of clarity.
I hope you can realize that you are being championing inclusivism except when you exclude exclusivism

Why are atheists so against religions that don't use violence but seem to support government which is only about initiating violence against others?
mustaffa1611 3 months ago
Hey Angie, fellow atheist here. I ran across your vids today and saw this one. The reason I was commenting is because me and my family started attending Bishop Swilleys church back in 1990. We were, and my folks still are, a big part of his ministries for years. I can attest that he never spoke poorly about homosexuals or anyone really. He teaches a very liberal and inclusive Christianity. I would probably never tell him this, but his ministry actually started me down the path to my deconversion
fonoflux1 4 months ago
I'm kind of concerned that you are telling us to play nice, and be inclusive. Then you tell people that are Christians, that they are deluded. I respect that you have made a choice to be an atheist, or anti-theist. But I saw a whole lot of hypocrisy just then :)x

@ironcross66106 you are SO ignorant. Being gay isn't a choice, people kill them selves because they don't want to be homosexual but were just born that way. I, amongst many other people are deeply offended by your narrow minded comment.
KatieWilkinsonmusic 9 months ago
@KatieWilkinsonmusic just curious as to your view on bi-sexual's, were/are "they just born that way"?, also, what about those who have been straight for 20 years then decide to become bi.
Lastly, do gays get bored with being gay after 20years then decide to go straight? Thanks.
GST20101 8 months ago
@GST20101 Well i'm bisexual and yes, bisexual people were born that way, same as straight and gay people. And someone dosent "decide" to become bi, they may have just been in the closet for a long time or not found a person who they were attracted to being the same gender. To be honest, I don't really believe in labels, I mean, if I like a guy, I'm straight, but if I like a girl I'm gay.... But really, I just love who I love, it's about the person, not the genitals.. You have no controle over...
KatieWilkinsonmusic 8 months ago
@GST20101 Who you fall in lve with. And it shouldn't matter whether they have a penis or a vagina. Also, gay people don't get bored! Thay are attracted to people of the same gender and can't change that because they are "bored" unfortunately, there are some people who pretend to be bisexual to get attention ect but they are just fakes and a minority.
KatieWilkinsonmusic 8 months ago
@KatieWilkinsonmusic Perhaps the gay crew could just go to the shop for some anti gay pills? lol, but surely there must be some who have been gay for 20years then decide to "come out" of the straight wardrobe & revert to being "straights"?.
From my work i see a common pattern, that being: often there is some physical predisposition but with effectively %100 of the crew i''v heard "tipping point diversions"- such as poor treatment or poor example from the opposite sex somewhere along the way.
GST20101 8 months ago
This man should be forced to step down from his role as pastor of ANY church.
Reason: How can anyone give others instruction on how to better follow God's word, when he himself doesn't won't?
I pray that this pastor will repent of his sins and ask God to forgive him, and help him to give up this abominable lifestyle, and sin.
I also pray that the Church will replace him with someone beyond reproach.
ironcross66106 9 months ago
@ironcross66106 Being gay is not a choice for God's sake, why would anyone decide to be gay, knowing that you could get horribly discriminated and killed for it? Don't pull the typical "It's the demos that make you want to be like that" crap that christians use.

@kindahokey He's not running out on his family, from what it sounded like in the interview he's not leaving for a man, it doesn't even sound like he's necessarily seeing anyone else... he's leaving because their marriage has no sexual attraction in it and now that the public knows it'd be too weird to stay married.
luvtheheavenAGAIN 10 months ago
@luvtheheavenAGAIN Oh excuse me running out on his family because he's impotent nope not an excuse......Not where human lives are concerned sorry. When will this world learn children become adults we teach them how to act just by living our lives i don't want my son growing up thinking it's okay for him to run out on his family no matter what his excuses may be i guess i just hold men to a high standard ie .......so they can be respected.
This man has no respect
kindahokey 10 months ago
@kindahokey He's not stopping being a parent or abandoning his children. I don't respect abusive nor neglectful parents, nor ones who "run out on their family", male or female. He falls into none of the categories though. I don't get why you think so negatively of him.
luvtheheavenAGAIN 10 months ago

AngieAntiTheist 11 months ago
@AngieAntiTheist I just find it funny out of all the comments I left, you only responded to the comments where I am NOT challenging you or asking you real questions. You chose to answer the easy ones. I would make a video, but I don't feel like I need validation from a world I would like to see burn to the ground anyway. Thank you for proving how empty you really are and for showing you wouldn't last 5 minutes with anybody actually versed on almost any tipoc you bring up.
7danyul7 11 months ago
@AngieAntiTheist If someone doesn't know what I am rambling about, it is only because they lack the intellect to process what I am saying. I like to think I keep things fairly simple and easy to understand. If you are claiming I have said nothing, it is only because you have the comprehension skills of an earthworm. You have no desire to e mail me because you have no desire to be constantly shown how much you don't know haha. That's ok. You're boring and I'm done bothering with you anyway.
7danyul7 11 months ago
I'm just challenging the premises behind your belief system. What you do or don't believe doesn't concern me. What concerns me is the lack of confidence behind your claims.
7danyul7 11 months ago
So you like messages of acceptance, but you hate the idea of a god and hate those who buy into the idea?. Wouldn't that make you unaccepting toward those who do believe in a god? Your rambling is incessant, benighted, and antithetical. Angie, your logic is weak and you have little to no premise backing up your conclusions. If you're going to be atheist, at least be educated about it. Your "street corner" philosophy doesn't fly with people who actually use their minds; atheist or not.
7danyul7 11 months ago
@7danyul7 Whoever said I hate Christians? They're lying.
You make a lot of claims that I've got crap arguments, but they're all unsupported. So, other than insults, do you have anything to add?
AngieAntiTheist 11 months ago
@AngieAntiTheist My claim is your arguments are based on uneducated popular belief and backed up by nothing. Where would you like me to start? Give me a starting point and I can tell you where you are wrong. I am pretty sure I made some good points and even challenged your knowledge on certain topics you spoke of. It's not my fault they went over your head. You can send me an e mail on here if you want to take this off of the comment board.
7danyul7 11 months ago
@7danyul7 I have no desire to send you an email. I'm still waiting to see if you have anything to add. Beyond ad hominems, you apparently don't. This is a pity, but not something that's likely to make me want to continue the frustration of talking to an utter tool.
AngieAntiTheist 11 months ago
@AngieAntiTheist That's fine. I will just smear you across your own video posts like I have been for the last few days. Why don;t you answer my other questions concerning different religions. You come off as some kind of religious scholar when you don't even seem to be able to decipher the differences between Muslims and Christians. I remember correcting you on a particular belif in the Muslim faith, but you chose to ignore that.
7danyul7 11 months ago
@AngieAntiTheist Please show me where I used ad hominems that were fallacious... I can show you how white trash comments like "utter tool" only seem to solidify my comments about your lack of education or even having basic knowledge of what you're talking about and being able to back it up. I will answer you as soon as you answer the several other points I made. I even kept them super simple. Do you want them to be more challenging?
7danyul7 11 months ago
@AngieAntiTheist I'm still waiting to see if YOU have anything real to add. You don't even know the difference between Muslims and Christians. I had to correct you on the role of Jesus (Isa) in the muslim faith. It only matters because you choose to use them as examples. It's great you choose to ignore responding to those comments. You didn't even answer my simple question about Krishna and Vishnu ( you could have even googled that. Instead, you chose to use insults such as "utter tool."

I take all my cues from wild life and I've learned SO MUCH about humans through studying animals. There are quite a few animals that take part in homosexuality. Seeing that humans are animals too, it is also in our nature NOT that everyone is born that way of course. Problem with humans is we think too much and with thinking too much comes a huge and I mean HUGE amount of ideals that we've created that only cause stress, pain and suffering.
fourtywpm 11 months ago
@Angieantitheist it don't matter what you think because God made this universe. There is no other reason why he made man and woman and that is for each other and to make children. You don't have to warn me cause unlike you I know what I'm talking about and I also think it should be unlawful for gay couples to adopt and raise children because they are confused enough if they see thier gay parents living a gay life style they will think it's ok and it's not ok. It's sinful and nasty.

@Angieantitheist. When God made me a man he made a woman for me to be with not another man. Why do you think God put women here on earth for? Can't people understand that God made man and woman for a reason. Man and woman can make children not two of the same sex.
keithbyrd10 1 year ago
@keithbyrd10 Unlike you, I don't think women are here "for" procreation or your pleasure.
Our species is not in danger of becoming extinct from lack of procreation. And hey, since when is marriage about babies? Are you saying that infertile people shouldn't be allowed to get married? (Be warned: There isn't a single argument against gay marriage that doesn't also apply to straight marriage.)
You're a bigot.

The diseases they can get, and such.
Shoots1978 1 year ago
A Christian Pastor practicing a homosexual lifestyle is not a christian pastor. Please don't mislead people into thinking the God of the Bible allows this. The bible warns of the deception of men. This Pastor can no longer be considered a reliable teacher of the Bible
goruby2 1 year ago
@goruby2 By your standard any Christian pastor practicing a shellfish eating lifestyle, a beard shaving lifestyle, or a poly-blended fabric wearing lifestyle is not a Christian pastor. The Bible calls all of these things abominations right alongside homosexuality.
Oh and you're not a True Christian by these standards if you don't stone people to death every time the Old Testament says to. Have fun serving a life sentence in maximum security prison!

@GarfieldSpecials2011 @GarfieldSpecials2011 I don't say delusional to be "bashing" anyone.

Kindly take your ignorance, and shove it.

You must know how to love before you can give it to another.
kindahokey 10 months ago
@kindahokey
TheBoyFromNorfolk 10 months ago
@TheBoyFromNorfolk LOL Celebrity! that's laughable nobody knows anything about celebrity relationships gay or straight you know nothing of their relationships therefore you can not base a decision on something you know nothing about . In fact the more i read your comment the more your comment becomes moot you appear to not know any gay couples in real life. And you're wow sorry your whole comment is just sounding ridiculous at this point statistics lol i'm talking about experience not numbers.
kindahokey 10 months ago
@kindahokey
TheBoyFromNorfolk 10 months ago
@TheBoyFromNorfolk you fool when they have a murder trial they don't throw out the eyewitness to the murder and rely on forensic evidence instead .
kindahokey 10 months ago
@kindahokey
TheBoyFromNorfolk 10 months ago
@TheBoyFromNorfolk They have the ability to love yes. Friends, family, ect..... i've just observed when it comes to their actual partner they don't do such a good job. I just don't think children should be exposed to gay relationships because of the turmoil. i think a single gay man could do a better job probably then a gay man in a relationship.Let me rephrase they don't ignore a "credible" eyewitness and only go on forensics The forensic people weren't there were they? were they??????
kindahokey 10 months ago
@kindahokey
TheBoyFromNorfolk 10 months ago
@kindahokey I would say gay parents in general are gonna be better then at least 50% maybe even 60% of str8 ones cause they actually plan to have them - therefore actually want them and subsequently aren't gonna do a half assed job at raising them. I have a few different gay friends that have amazing kids that are growing up happy and healthy. I'm not sure what gay relationships that you have been witness to but don't judge a group of 9 million plus based off of 4 or 5 people.
ThatKidTy24 9 months ago
@ThatKidTy24 We may have different definitions and standards of a happy healthy kid. Many straight couples don't do a great job meeting these standards either i e 80% divorce rate and climbing. You have your opinion I have mine. I don't believe gay couples make very successful parents notice i didn't use the word just good, success goes all the way to adulthood not just "a happy healthy kid" And i say the same thing about a lot of straight parents there is a way to raise a successful adult....
kindahokey 9 months ago
@kindahokey I agree that U are entitled to your opinion but you're generalizing. That's not right and it leads me to wonder, do U generalize with other minorities? Do U think that all Blacks are criminals just because some R? Do U think that all Puerto Ricans R rude just because you know 1 that is? I feel like U have made your mind up about "Gays not being good parents" and nothing is gonna change that and that's a shame. If that's the case then there is really no point in this convo.

Yeah well, maybe he's not a bigot against homosexuals (simply because he is one).
But doesn't he still get rich by selling people fairy tales for their money and exploiting them with false hope. ?

@atheistrage "But doesn't he still get rich by selling people fairy tales for their money and exploiting them with false hope?" Yes and no. False hope and making money? Yes. Is he intentionally exploiting people? That I couldn't say. I've had preachers who genuinely believed and really thought they were helping people. You can be a good person and a religious believer.
AngieAntiTheist 1 year ago
@AngieAntiTheist Right, there may well be some preachers who are sincere (although their message is nothing more than an empty fable).
But those guy (in my opinion) are usually the small town chruch type who drive around in a ford taurus. Not these mega church guys.
Fuck Christ, I just looked up this guy on google. His suit and watch alone probably cost a lot more than my truck.
The fact that christ plainly preached agianst the rich shows me how sincere this guy is.
atheistrage 1 year ago
@AngieAntiTheist Don't get me wrong, that's great if he isn't preaching hate against gays like 99% of other christians do. Hopefully he doesn't preach hate against any minorities.
But (in my opinion) his tolerance for gays is most likely a direct result of him being one. If it weren't for that fact, he might well be openly condemning then right along side Pat Robertson.
These guys only care about themselves. Maybe he hopes to solict donations from new people with this approach.
atheistrage 1 year ago
@atheistrage "his tolerance for gays is most likely a direct result of him being one" And that very well may be true. I think tolerance/acceptance usually comes from exposure. Many people lack what I call empathetic imagination.
I'm not making ANY character judgments beyond what I covered in the video. I'm not familiar enough with the guy or his teachings to do so (unlike, say Rick Warren.) I just thought it was cool he took a personal reputation risk for the sake of saving gay teenagers.
AngieAntiTheist 1 year ago
@AngieAntiTheist Right, I agree with you entirely (and I think Rick Warren is a slim ball).
It's just hard for me to concieve that Pastor Jim really gives a flying leap about several gay teenagers commiting suicide in the news recently.
He was probably on the verge of getting found out anywny and simply chose to mitigate his damages rather the being the next Ted Haggrd.
Either way, I suppose it is refreshing to hear one about of these guys tolerating any minority.
atheistrage 1 year ago
@atheistrage "He was probably on the verge of getting found out anywny and simply chose to mitigate his damages rather the being the next Ted Haggrd."
That's where I won't jump with you. I haven't seen enough evidence yet to make that kind of conclusion. I'm wary to make judgments on the motives of others, and that wariness is proportional to my ignorance of that person. :)
AngieAntiTheist 1 year ago
@AngieAntiTheist That's a good point, and perhaps I am guilty of putting all these well dressed evangelists in the same preverbial boat. Obviously I don't have any insight into his mind.
However after watching your video, I looked at a few video clips of Mr. Swilley and listened to some of his sermon, and I didn't see much of a reason to consider him any different.
Basically, just by selling older people "Heaven", he's kind of a low life in my book.
atheistrage 1 year ago
@atheistrage "However after watching your video, I looked at a few video clips of Mr. Swilley and listened to some of his sermon, and I didn't see much of a reason to consider him any different."
You have done more research and thus your opinion may very well be closer to the truth. I don't claim to know one way or the other. You're right - he may have been about to go down in a giant scandal though I didn't see shame on his face (just disgust at Ted Haggard) during the Behar interview.
AngieAntiTheist 1 year ago
@AngieAntiTheist Yeah, (in my opnion) he just stands there and tells outrageous lies (above & beyond what's even in the bible) to a transfixed crowd of mostly older people.
I haven't seen the Behar interview, but in most cases sincerity can by attributed to good acting skills.
Obviously neither one of us value the bible much, but I find these pious con mans types who use religion as a tool to be extra dispicable (or perhaps deep down I'm just jealously of their scam).

Just some thoughts :)

@ashatbulaparanormal "You know he won't be a preacher for long. The church will kick him out." Maybe, maybe not.

Maybe if they can't live a life without worshiping a god, then maybe they should go look for a god that doesn't hate gay people (if there is such a religion), cause the bible makes it a bit too clear that gays aren't accepted in that religion.
ateopuertorico 1 year ago
@ateopuertorico The Bible also forbids shrimp as a meal. There's difference of opinion and interpretation when it comes to things like that. Otherwise there wouldn't be different sects. You should check out the gay christian websites. There's a few on the internet. One actually goes into the idea of accepted customs and how they change.
arthereld 1 year ago 2
@arthereld To be fair, the shrimp industry is one of the most unsustainable and ecologically damaging of all food industries. So, if all the Crispies were actually not eating shrimp, we'd have a little bit of good for the oceans. Alas...
ProbableFiction 1 year ago
@ProbableFiction Really? I would have thought that harvesting shrimp would be fairly sustainable, they breed back pretty quick.
newperve 1 year ago
@newperve The rate and quantity of the catch, not to mention the excessive method, surpass the species reproduction rate.
ProbableFiction 1 year ago
@arthereld That's my whole point, why do people still follow a god that forbids so many things they can't keep up.
I just don't see Christians living up to the bible god's standards, and even if they were they would be considered the ignorant s of society.
Today I have no idea why they are ok with the bible laws and how they choose and pick what they like and don't like.

Next...well, there'z a couple of schools of thought on that one. *pshrug*
BionicDance 1 year ago
@BionicDance Yeah, I figured the goofball thing, but I used it as an opportunity to ask a question that was sort of on my mind before. It left my mind till I saw your comment, I'll have to ask my gay friends about it. We just don't get into any deeper conversation than, "we need to go karaoking tonight and have some beers."
arthereld 1 year ago
@arthereld Well, the problem is that there is no consensus, really.
I'd say the majority agree with what you'd asserted in your question, that "gay" encompassed male and female homosexuality. But a mildly vocal minority wants to keep them separate, some out of ideology and some just for the sake of clarity.
BionicDance 1 year ago
Maybe the cognitive dissonance caused by living gay and his Bible god's prohibitions against him, will cause the end of his faith.
