it's not like there HAS to be an f1-related reason why ferrari loved villeneuve almost like a son, more than any other of his drivers. do you always have a reason why you love someone in your life more than someone else? i think it's just the same :)
Gilles was born in my home town of Chambly Qc. Canada he was way ahead of his time and we sincerely believe he would of been World Champ.if unfortunately lived longer "SALUT CHAMPION "
@ton308gts nah, as i saw in videos Gilles was too crazy driver to win a championship :) i prefer he still Gilles Villeneuve than a Michael Schumacher.
As a Canadian Gilles Villeneuve meant so much to me when I was a child. I was absolutely heartbroken when he was killed, but I am, to this day proud to call him my countryman. He was an awesome competitor, but more importantly he was a tremendous person, the epitome of class, integrity and honour. Salute Gilles.
Enzo Was a very Hard man and gave all his drivers a hard time except two,he loved Gilles Villeneuve and Juan Fangio and would never say a bad word about them.......................
When asked about Senna , Enza said "Something in this young man's look grips you"
@23deniro23 it was Tazio Nuvolari and Gilles Villeneuve that enzo cared about, he didn't much like Fangio as he only drove for him once and then just left.
@AbstractsParody hmm Fangio drove for Enzo in 1956. He drove for a full year and even won the world championship in his car. At the end of the year, Enzo Ferrari said that there would never be a world champion like him. Only once? nah. The reason why Enzo Ferrari didn't really like him was because of Enzo's refusal to treat him as the no 1. driver in the team.
@MrTann2010 He didn't like him because he always changed teams, To Enzo Ferrari the team was everything, To Fangio the team was replaceable at the drop of a hat. This is why he did not care about him.
mallamoozoo - once again, you're talking about Schumacher when this video has nothing to do with him. I happen to believe Enzo would've had massive respect for him due to the fact that Enzo was a hard man and Schumacher is a hard driver and ruthless, two aspects Enzo would've admired.

Don't let this sentimentality fool you. Enzo was NOT a good person. He berated his handicapped son as "weak", hated Ferrari road cars and never supported them, kept a mistress and several children in Modena that he eventually moved in with his wife, he told Feruccio Lamborghini that he was nothing but a farmer and should stick to tractors, and - worst of all - he ran the company out of business and had to sell it to his main rival Fiat. There is nothing about Enzo Ferrari to truly admire.
other than beating his son, whats not to like about him? @downforcemedia I somehow I get the impression you don't know much about Ferrari. Scuderia Ferrari was begun to race Alfa Romeo cars in the 20s, it wasn't until after the war that Ferrari started producing road cars, for the sole purpose of funding racing. The sale to FIAT gave Ferrari financial security it never could have had on its own. "Ran the company out of business" is the most idiotic thing I've ever heard. So Ferrari wanted to race. You really consider this a terrible thing?
@downforcemedia I must add that it's BECAUSE Enzo Ferrari sold road cars to finance racing-unique-that the Ferrari name carries such mystique and your road car is valuable. Ferrari stretched itself too thin with sports car racing and F1 in the 50s-early 60s, it was no poor financial management that forced the FIAT sale. As for his family, Enzo visited their graves every morning, and those sunglasses? Worn every day after Dino's death. And yes, he WAS difficult, like most men of his generation.
" I never think I can hurt myself- not seriously. If you believe it can happen to you, how can you do this job? If your never over eight-tenths, or whatever, because your thinking about a shunt, your not going as quick as you can. And if your not doing that, you're not a racing driver. Some guys in Formula One....... Well, to me, they're not racing drivers. They drive racing cars, and thats all. They're doing half a job. And in that case, I wonder why they do it at all....
I forget which driver said it but he said that Gilles Villeneuve didn't want to win the championship and didn't want to win the race. He wanted to win EVERY LAP!
GILLES is revered because he a giant of a driver , like KEKE said " he's the hardest bastard i ever raced against " and KEKE should know he came up with GILLES thru the ranks . the stories told by journalist and drivers is testament on what type of person he was , and he was fast ,like james hunt said "GILLES dawdleling is like most people qualifying " schumacher can't even get off the line without
cutting a hard line into the other driver. GILLES lived by a higher code than most people .
I'm sure that Grande Enzo would have a the same if not higher regard for Schumacher.
MS biggest achievement is perhaps not the 7 world titles, but the fact that he took his Benetton race engineers in a mid-field dying Ferrari team in 96' and elevate it to the uncontested leader of F1 and won 5 titles in a row with them.
No matter how spectacular, and how fun to watch was Gilles, he never did that.
Ayrton Senna was never a cheater, yeah he had always duel against Prost butt Prost was the best, Senna he want the beat Prost and he dıd it, in 89 ın suzuka gp HOW WAS THE CHEATER THAT WAS PROST ın the slow corner Senna was past of Prost butt Prost shut the door and hıt Senna
Why is it that no matter what subject comes up on YouTube people starts to argue right away?? Mr. Ferrari wasn't talking about Senna or Schumacher, he was talking about the, in my humble opinion, best and definitely most entertaining driver ever. If you want to see great racing type Villeneuve vs Arnoux Dijon 1979.
Enzo also has an insane passion for salt and vinegar crisps, one time a factory worker tried to steal a crisp out of the packet that he was eating, enzo jumped into a ferrari daytona and tried to run the factory worker over, having failed that and furious, he turned off the electricity to the factory for 2 hours including all the lights so that the place was in darkness and hid all the mechanics spanners in his office to confuse them and then crunched his crisps over the tanoid at full volume.
This is a profound testimony to Gilles Villeneuve - it's clear that the great tycoon Enzo Ferrari regarded Gilles Villeneuve in the same way the next generation regards Ayrton Senna.
Had Enzo lived to this day I am convinced he would not have the same regard for Schumacher.
you can think what you want to think. you already have thumbs down. so no one agrees. alright? Senna was right when he took Prost out, it was one of the bravest things anyone has ever done in an F1 car. not only standing up to Prost but the FIA for allowing Prost to keep his tittle in 1989.
and no punching the guy back like a man would, would be JUTICE!
Schumacher was DSQ in 1997 because he already pulled this shit in 1994 just months after Sennas death!
but you are the one that started this. ppl like you start these stupid arguements. no one was bashing anyone except you and ppl like you. so plz man think about what you say!
everything Senna did was legal and thats the bottom line. you can say Senna did all these "dangerous manouvers", but they were legal. he did nothing the rules said he couldnt do.
the only time Ayrton took a car out on purpose was to Prost, and it was after prost did it to him. not revenge, but justice.
lol what but its not ok for senna to follow prosts foot steps! man HYPOCRACY!!!!!
see i told you you are all hypocrits, Prost got what he deserved plain and simple. thats why Senna was aloud to keep his tittle, the ppl would be outraged!
and about portugal 1988 go watch the whole race because AGAIN. Prost got what he deserved at the begining of the race prost squeezed Ayrton to the side of the road! you better come up with something better!
thats funny man, because you know what all of Ayrton's deffences WERE LEGAL. where Schumacher's WERE ILLEGAL. the guy got DSQ from the 1997 season! and he did much more then that.
as i said anything could of happened with prosts crash as well. when corner workers have to get on track and push a car away its very dangerous. much more dangerous then 2 cars colliding and having 100 metres of run off. with no car having to be pushed off the track! give it up your aruement has become repetitve.
man have you even seen the race?! prost built a 4-5 second gap thats all he pulled out on Ayrton. when Ayrton started to set the fastest laps of the race he caught right up to prost. they stayed like this for many laps. thats what im saying prost knew he had to do it. and did you know prost jumped the start of this race? look it up. watch it on dvd he jumps it by a half second, James Hunt saw it with out the replay.
you can say Sennas move was more dangerous i agree with that. but the chances of one of them getting hurt right there is very minamal. no more greater then prosts move where workers had to push the cars off the track. ANYTHING can happen!
Schumacher was brought into this because you seem to be a fan and hes the biggest scum bag the sport has ever seen.
you cant base your whole arguement on one move which was not as dangerous as ppl say it was with all the run off.
wrong the move by prost was very premeditated. he deffenetly lured Senna into passing and turned in on him. he knew thats what he would do. it was not a spare the moment thing. Prost had Ayrton right behind him for a number of laps. all sorts of things were running through his mind no doubt. Senna did not finishes race right behind the leader to often. Prost KNEW he would make the attack, and Prost knew what he HAD TO DO.
all men are judged for what comes out of their mouth. and if your to stupid to know what you say is wrong, there is no point explaining it. and why dont you give me some examples of Senna crashing into ppl. about 80% of them were do to hard racing and took place mid corner when the wheels touch, usualy with mansell. schumacher deliberatly crashed into multiple drivers. lol at you saying senna taking revenge is wrong but the person who starts it is golden, like your boy schumacher. die in a hole!
pathetic you should think of your own actions and the things that come out of your own mouth. you might burn for them! hypocite! and yea he always got his way thats why he had to fight for 3 tittles in 10 years. just another jelous schumacher fan! I find it rich you sit here and type what you have typed. schumacher has the dirtiest tactics in all F1 history. all you schumacher fans are the exact same stupid to the core and preach hypocracy.
Since I never saw Gilles Villeneuve race and since he's a from here, I won't say anything good about him but he's a legend for sure. My heart is with Senna, meme si je suis Quebecois.
everything any other driver did would be compared to
after GILLES ,mansell and patrese in mexico 91 , patrese and berger 92 mexico senna with 3 wheels in adelaide senna and a train of cars in jerez being betrayed by your teammate , lighting fast starts you don't get compared to TASIO NOUVOLO by the " OLD MAN " for nothing.
Senna really is overrated. Before he died he was actually kept as biggest cheater at the time. He even admitted one time he crashed on purpose. But Gilles was totally different. Real honest driver with real skills.
This remark is crap. To say a driver as gifted as Ayrton Senna is "overrated" demonstrates the author is not in touch with reality.
I loved both drivers. I still burn at the loss of both drivers. This type of emotional remark has no value. Senna and Villeneuve had vastly different approaches to their craft. It is impossible to compare drivers of different eras. Why make sucha statement?
overrated?. did you see donignton 93?. winer 7 times in monaco. fight against alain prost whit the same car. 65 poles in 8 years and 3 races.did you see how resist the second place in the uk grand prix 93?.
wow what a comment. what do you think Ayrton was talking about then? possibly Suzuka 1990 the year after prost hit ayrton. what goes around comes around and prost deserved to be punted off the track. how did he cheat? you give this shity comment i and im sure everyone else would like to hear the reasons behind your ignorant comment.
Prost hit Senna in 1990 ? we didnt watch the same Japan gp i think.
they were both guilty.
Fans are funny, they are so hypocrite.
Oh yeah Senna was so great, he drove with only 1 hand and won race from 1950 to 1994 , oh and he was the 1rst man on a moon too. pff ridiculous.
btw your conversation with Shoeme was so boring and had nothing to do here, its a video about enzo and Gille, so stop to pollute video with your noob comment. dammit.
such an ass! where did i say that? no where! prost hit senna in 89 where senna hit prost in 1990. dont put words in my mouth! good job making an ass of yourself. if you didnt notice i got thumbs up he got thumbs down. just like you will.
you should complain to the other guy then, i didnt start it listen to his bull shit. I do understand which is why i finally gave up trying to talk to a retard. I cant sit here and listen to a guy talk trash about a legend no matter who it is. some ppl just lack respect.
i would say senna and villeneuve were the best ever, both unique. completely dedicated to racing, i dont know any other doing the things that these guyes did, f1 owes so much to both of them
Enzo was not only ferrari! Enzo loved the motorsport! He liked Viellneuve for his spectacular racing! Even you lose a race with Gilles you win because of his humanitiy. Today thats gone
The great man talking about Gilles, what can you say? He was so sad when Gilles died, as he said Gilles was like a son to him. Enzo loved racers, especially those with the talent and passion which epitomises a legendery team like Ferrari. Gilles ticked all the boxes and it is our loss that he died so tragicallly, as did many other great drivers. Enzo had a tough life too, racing cars was all he knew, and thank god for that! Long live Ferrari and the tifosi.
You people arguing about who stole what are a disgrace! Argue about that somewhere else! Not here, where one of the greastest men of motorsports is talking about his loss! Really you should all be shot! R.I.P. Gilles! WE WILL NEVER FORGET YOU!
I so agree with you. Ferrari is the most famous and relevant figure in formula 1 ever. Period. But he was also a reserved person. For him to mention Gilles among the memories of his lost son and relatives, well, it gives an idea of Gilles relevance not just as a driver, but as a man. There is no Schumacher or Hamilton or Alonso or Senna or Prost who could ever get such a tribute. They all compromised their integrity in search of success. Gilles never did. And he was braver and more talented
No, it really isn't! How is Enzo a disgrace? Trust me, I'm not a Ferrari fan but I do show respect when its deserved! The man did great things for the sport and not just F1 but pretty much all motorsports! Gilles was the only guy that drove for Ferrari that had any talent in my opinion! I'm a DIE HARD Mclaren fanand pretty much always have been! For Enzo to speak so highly of someone who worked for him is a pretty powerful thing and shows you the type of men both Gilles and Enzo were! PERIOD!
Is not Enzo the disgrace, is US for talking about the Stepney-gate.
And I said that we should talk about Mr.Ferrari and Gilles Villeneuve.
My construction of phrase did lead to confusion, anyway.
Historically, well, Enzo too have "copied a bit"... With Auto-Avio Costruzion, different think are comparable, but it's was just a bit... Since he was in obligation because, well is was made be part.
And with CMN, but that was redesigning used truck bodies into small passenger cars...
Yes, Enzo was wonderful: Who have think to turn a truck bodies into a small passengers car? And made it work, that an other part.
And well, we have a good year right now.
McLaren paid his price, without that histories they might have an other constructor title but they have done well to made the car with the fia manager.
Ferrari have done well to. I'm a bit disappointed be Renault, BMW, Toyota and Honda which I still wait on top with the two first. Now let see 2009.
« Gilles ?
Did the Honda Team, or Ferrari, or BMW steal something like a thousand page of classified information? Did these teams stole THE WHOLE PROJECTS and TACTICS of an adversary team??
Did any F1 team has been inquired for industrial espionage?
Did any team steal information after having stipulated a non-espionage pact??
just because you havent heard about it, doesnt mean it hasnt happened. and it is completely probable other teams have taken private information and gotten away with it.
the answer is yes yes yes, your very naive about the murky world of formula one espionage and cheating! If they are not caught then you don't hear about it, maybe only get the rumours! How many get caught, not many!

Yeah..like you know everything.
Why is everybody biting Schumacher's ass?
Everybody complain about him being a cheater, about his dirty moves on Villeneuve and Hill, but Senna did the same with Prost!!!
Everybody is forgetting that! mostly because Senna is dead.
F1 fans tend to have big respect and idolize dead drivers.

Enzo also has an insane passion for salt and vinegar crisps, one time a factory worker tried to steal a crisp out of the packet that he was eating, enzo jumped into a ferrari daytona and tried to run the factory worker over, having failed that and furious, he turned off the electricity to the factory for 2 hours including all the lights so that the place was in darkness and hid all the mechanics spanners in his office to confuse them and then crunched his crisps over the tanoid at full volume.
knutfheifer 2 years ago
This is a profound testimony to Gilles Villeneuve - it's clear that the great tycoon Enzo Ferrari regarded Gilles Villeneuve in the same way the next generation regards Ayrton Senna.
Had Enzo lived to this day I am convinced he would not have the same regard for Schumacher.

your getting so repetitive. and go off topic to much. get over it your biased and its alright i understand.
this retarded arguement is over. you dont understand...... and no one cares...........
ImmortalSenna 2 years ago 3
Elio de Angelis in 1986 died.
you can think what you want to think. you already have thumbs down. so no one agrees.
ImmortalSenna 2 years ago
but you are the one that started this. ppl like you start these stupid arguements. no one was bashing anyone except you and ppl like you. so plz man think about what you say!
everything Senna did was legal and thats the bottom line. you can say Senna did all these "dangerous manouvers", but they were legal. he did nothing the rules said he couldnt do.
the only time Ayrton took a car out on purpose was to Prost, and it was after prost did it to him. not revenge, but justice.
ImmortalSenna 2 years ago
its such a shame you are here spreading your hate for a legend. you should let it go, find something else to do with your time!
ImmortalSenna 2 years ago
lol what but its not ok for senna to follow prosts foot steps! man HYPOCRACY!!!!!
see i told you you are all hypocrits, Prost got what he deserved plain and simple. thats why Senna was aloud to keep his tittle, the ppl would be outraged!
and about portugal 1988 go watch the whole race because AGAIN. Prost got what he deserved at the begining of the race prost squeezed Ayrton to the side of the road! you better come up with something better!
ImmortalSenna 2 years ago
thats funny man, because you know what all of Ayrton's deffences WERE LEGAL. where Schumacher's WERE ILLEGAL. the guy got DSQ from the 1997 season! and he did much more then that.
as i said anything could of happened with prosts crash as well. when corner workers have to get on track and push a car away its very dangerous. much more dangerous then 2 cars colliding and having 100 metres of run off. with no car having to be pushed off the track! give it up your aruement has become repetitve.
ImmortalSenna 2 years ago
man have you even seen the race?! prost built a 4-5 second gap thats all he pulled out on Ayrton. when Ayrton started to set the fastest laps of the race he caught right up to prost. they stayed like this for many laps. thats what im saying prost knew he had to do it. and did you know prost jumped the start of this race? look it up. watch it on dvd he jumps it by a half second, James Hunt saw it with out the replay.
ImmortalSenna 2 years ago
"finish races"
you can say Sennas move was more dangerous i agree with that. but the chances of one of them getting hurt right there is very minamal. no more greater then prosts move where workers had to push the cars off the track. ANYTHING can happen!
Schumacher was brought into this because you seem to be a fan and hes the biggest scum bag the sport has ever seen.
you cant base your whole arguement on one move which was not as dangerous as ppl say it was with all the run off.
ImmortalSenna 2 years ago
wrong the move by prost was very premeditated. he deffenetly lured Senna into passing and turned in on him. he knew thats what he would do. it was not a spare the moment thing. Prost had Ayrton right behind him for a number of laps. all sorts of things were running through his mind no doubt. Senna did not finishes race right behind the leader to often. Prost KNEW he would make the attack, and Prost knew what he HAD TO DO.
ImmortalSenna 2 years ago
all men are judged for what comes out of their mouth. and if your to stupid to know what you say is wrong, there is no point explaining it. and why dont you give me some examples of Senna crashing into ppl. about 80% of them were do to hard racing and took place mid corner when the wheels touch, usualy with mansell. schumacher deliberatly crashed into multiple drivers. lol at you saying senna taking revenge is wrong but the person who starts it is golden, like your boy schumacher. die in a hole!
ImmortalSenna 2 years ago
pathetic you should think of your own actions and the things that come out of your own mouth. you might burn for them! hypocite! and yea he always got his way thats why he had to fight for 3 tittles in 10 years. just another jelous schumacher fan! I find it rich you sit here and type what you have typed. schumacher has the dirtiest tactics in all F1 history. all you schumacher fans are the exact same stupid to the core and preach hypocracy.

Senna really is overrated. Before he died he was actually kept as biggest cheater at the time. He even admitted one time he crashed on purpose. But Gilles was totally different. Real honest driver with real skills.
rautavaari 2 years ago
This remark is crap. To say a driver as gifted as Ayrton Senna is "overrated" demonstrates the author is not in touch with reality.
I loved both drivers. I still burn at the loss of both drivers. This type of emotional remark has no value. Senna and Villeneuve had vastly different approaches to their craft. It is impossible to compare drivers of different eras. Why make sucha statement?

Si le sumas que Gilles era coinsiderado un tio algo loco pero carismatico y buena gente, no es de extrañar que le pasase eso al Comendattore.

Enzo had a tough life too, racing cars was all he knew, and thank god for that! craigg1981 3 years ago 4

I'm a DIE HARD Mclaren fanand pretty much always have been! For Enzo to speak so highly of someone who worked for him is a pretty powerful thing and shows you the type of men both Gilles and Enzo were! PERIOD!
craigg1981 3 years ago 3
Is not Enzo the disgrace, is US for talking about the Stepney-gate.
And I said that we should talk about Mr.Ferrari and Gilles Villeneuve.
My construction of phrase did lead to confusion, anyway.
Historically, well, Enzo too have "copied a bit"... With Auto-Avio Costruzion, different think are comparable, but it's was just a bit... Since he was in obligation because, well is was made be part.
And with CMN, but that was redesigning used truck bodies into small passenger cars...
therrydicule 3 years ago
come on guys (all of you)let the Stepney-gate thing go the teams have just look how the two teams have this year
the Mc's did pay the price at the end of the day
sure massa bid miss out this year but that was down to are blunder's in the year
going back to the old man him self we all know is was not that big on the drivers
so for him to say some thing like this just go's to show his feeling's for Gilles
dare012 3 years ago
Yes, Enzo was wonderful: Who have think to turn a truck bodies into a small passengers car? And made it work, that an other part.
And well, we have a good year right now.
McLaren paid his price, without that histories they might have an other constructor title but they have done well to made the car with the fia manager.
Ferrari have done well to. I'm a bit disappointed be Renault, BMW, Toyota and Honda which I still wait on top with the two first. Now let see 2009.
