Its a fat lot of good showing a flashlight in a room . This gives no indication of the length of the beam throw outside so is a waste of time demonstration wise Clive
That other flashlight has dead batteries. NO working flashlight is so dim that it can't compare to HID. Half as bright I could believe. But it would NOT be one one-thousandth as bright (as this video looks like). This video looks like an advertisement for the HID flashlight. Are you sure you aren't working for the manufacturer of the HID flashlight.
Um, some HID units have an easy 1000 lumens in a compact space; the brawniest two have 4,000 lumens. A 100 watt light bulb has about 1,000, and a little 2AA/LR6 Maglite probably has well under 50 lumens of yellowy tungsten output. Now do you get it?
HID lights use custom batteries at around 12+ volts, 3D Maglites are around 3-4volts.
3D Maglites output about 60 lumens(brightness rating), while HID lights output ~500 lumens for 10w bulb, ~1000 lumens for 20w, ~2000 lumens for 30w, and ~3000 lumens for 30w, these are just a estimate for the output of lumens for the watt rating of a HID bulb.
The power(lumen) can change in the volt the batteries output.
The ONLY problem is that HID light take a warm up time until usable light is attained. An HID street light for example takes like a whole FIVE MINUTES. With these HID flashlights being so expensive the only people who would buy them would be the law enforcement, but they need INSTANT light to blind criminals. An HID warm up time would be WAY to long for that. So this whole HID flashlight thing is a COMPLETE RIPOFF. And this vid is ONLY on Youtube as an ad for the light. IT IS SPAM!
And in this video that minimag DOES have low batteries. Not just because of its dimness, but ALSO because of that yellow color it gives. A flashlight with FULLY charged batteries should be white (not yellow). But since low batteries are ALSO going to make it dimmer, I think a better comparison would have used FULL batteries in the Minimag. The fact that they use low batteries to make the comparison, PROVES this is just an ad for the HID light. They TRY to make the Mini mag look dim in this ad.
One thing is certain. They are NOT the most rugged type of light available. Why? With the HID lights, they emit light by ionizing and passing an electric current through a gas. This SIGNIFICANTLY heats the gas. And in such a small bulb, putting 20 watts of power, will increase the gas pressure to HUGE amounts. At full power, these things are practically on the edge of breaking JUST from the heat and pressure. If you drop it, you WILL need to get a new bulb, cause the old one will just shatter.
The ONLY reason to get one would be just because it "looks cool" because of the technology involved. It isn't a very practical light (one drop and the bulb shatters under the high pressure). And it is NOT CHEAP. It's sort of like a status symbol, like a BMW car. A regular Maglite is like your average Honda. The only reason to get an HID flashlight is to show of your wealth.
Actually ben if you read a little more before you write such a stupid reply. First off most of the new Metal Halide short arc H.I.D filled with Xenon only take about 8 seconds to warm up to full spectrum. Just depends on how much you want to spend for a lamp. And most the H.I.D lamp used in street lamps only take about 1-3 mins to fully warm up.
i got it from mobilehid-dot-com, it was the cheapest i could find and they have the 14w ones for $230 compared to 300-350 elsewhere. mine is a 24w one but they don't sell that one anymore.
LOL!!! I doubt youll find anything like this at a department store. If you are worried about prices.... then don't bother looking for HID anything....stick with cheap department store crap.
I need to find a smaller one for my road bike before winter and it gets dark early. I have a good LED light now, but that HID one is definitely brighter.
That is a cool flashlight! I never actually knew aboujt HID flashlights, as I do know a lot about lights....I am assuming it has an electronic ballast inside to have the HID work? And what is the power source? plug it in or battery powered?
Yo ... ive seen clifford HID flashlight in person and its super bright... Wats up cliff? .. its mo.. check out my video of your HID kit installed on my car...
I can't believe that I watched a flashlight sit on the ground for a minute and a half. I guess I was expecting something cool to happen. BTW Awesome light. I have to get one of those.
No seas mamon puto, pinche little mag light. Why even turn it on! No MAMES!

That Mini Maglite probably had only 5 lumens.

For "high intensity" light, I simply use a high power LED flashlight (with six 1 watt LEDs). Nuff said. And it cost me only 20 bucks.

HID is not used by the law enforcement to blind someone instantly.
If they wanted to, they would just get a LED light.
HID lights are for searchlights like lighting up a street to find someone.
HID is actually the most energy efficient light.
Mini Mags are of the worst lights, their the dimmest and useless.
1 watt LEDs are also not that bright.
The camera in that video just had a automatic light adjuster that made the HID light look dim.
If this was a ad, what's the name and where can I get it?

@BenHutchinson1eat it. one has at least twenty five times more power than the other. torches not cars.

@BenHutchinson1 you dont know what the fuck your talking about. i know you posted this over a year ago but fuck your stupid.
Look at all the weapons mounted HID lights that both surefire and polarion offer. Mounted on .50 caliber machine guns.
There is no filiment to burn out and no the gas pressure inside the bulb are no where near busting out as you describe.
get a clue before you spew you shit everywhere

As far as who makes these, isn't there just one company that does this?
BenHutchinson1 3 years ago
No, there are many companies that manufacturer HID Flashlights.

Renier oyu usually have to build HID torches, (i couldn't do it), look on the CPF forums for help, those are really nice guys.
I bought a HID torch for diving, they work better underwater due to hear loss, they get REALLY HOT, even compared to LEDs!
