  • whitney put a measure on it but this girl song this . .UNMISTAKEABLY

  • No one deserves to die until their time is up. Huston was a poor imitation of a real singer called Dolly Parton who could do it from inside without trying. She just opens her mouth and out comes real music.

  • Both those angels have shared their awsome talents with the world and should be appreciated now and always..

Love you both, and may god bless Whitney. RIP..

  • I will Always love u By Dolly Parton Will Always be Dolly s song no one can sing it from the heart like Dolly can !!!!!!!!

  • I think they both have awesome voices I love this song thanx for sharing :-)

  • The picture with Mike Jackson is just precious.

  • She sounds like a Billy goat........ Whitney Houston did it better

  • @taydertotyellow Loser

  • Dolly is the best of all. She creates, writes, sings, and passes the love on,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,What a gift from God.

  • ArmoredFelix u inconsiderate bastard! The poor woman just DIED!!! :'(

  • @123Sunnydale Nobody cares, she killed herself. She deserved what she got. She's a filthy disgusing imitation of a human being. Nobody cares.

  • Still the best!

  • What do you mean? She watched this video, had a bath and all of a sudden the singing stopped?

  • love this version, especially with the steel guitar in the background ........ perfect

  • THIS is my favorite, you beat an original!!

  • Sure you're right, life. It is what it is!

  • Whitney was a crackhead thief who is better off dead. As we all are better off with her dead and not taking up valuable resources. Now the Jews get to plunder her corpse for money from the stupid goyim.

  • @ArmoredFelix I wonder what plant you fell from, you must have to be the most negative thing that came into existence SINCE Satan was kick to earth. It been a while, if you can remember Elvis and his life story, he made his start by doing little Walter tune "My baby" and he got crazy paid. You know you are really something, something like the BLOB. Therefore, from one artist to the next artist, I am sure they are thanking GOD for the new generation of fresh face and beautiful voices.

  • @nicee1957 Yes and Elvis wasn't a thief, if you'll remember Whitney was caught stealing several times maybe you forgive her mortal sins. Maybe you look past her moral failings. It certainly does sound like it. God struck her dead for her repeated failings to follow his will. He gave her so much and she just threw it back in his face. She was from her father the Devil and you seem to want to elevate her or put her on a pedestal. Almost worship her.

  • @ArmoredFelix your a dumbass

  • @glitterboymakeup Do you think I'm a dumbass? Or maybe a troll? Doesn't matter Whitney deserved to die.

  • @ArmoredFelix Obviously you missed the part in the bible that says that "all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God". We all deserve to be struck down for all sins. It's not your job to judge someone, so maybe you should stop and instead marvel at such a beautiful song.

  • I think both versions are beautiful - and very personal in their own way...truly gorgeous performances that many will forever try to emulate...with mixed results. Love Dolly and Whitney!

  • Song writers make the money yes indeed. considering how much whitney's version has blown up since her death dolly is gonna make a fortune!!!! But what if someone other than whitney had sung the song?? would it have been as big? who knows. But dolly hit the jackpot when whitney recorded her version and it became a hit. and then to have this woman to die her pockets are fat now.

  • @theebest1one It's true. Back in the 60s people would cover other people's songs as soon as they came out, often without changing them much, and that feels kind of like stealing to me, but to cover a 20 year old song and blow it up into a pop hit is only doing a favor to the original artist.

  • @theebest1one The song hit number one twice for dolly parton in 1973! Then again in 1984 eleven years later from the "Best Little Whore House in Texas" sound track! This is three times it was a number one hit for Dolly Parton. Then again it became a hit for a 4th time with Whitney Houston, in 1992 Then again the song hit number one on the UK charts with Connie Talbot! She has already made a fourtune! God wish I wrote it! Way to Go Dolly Parton!

  • Like both versions but..I enjoy this more

  • As someone wrote below, "Whitney's legacy is too huge to be dismissed', this legacy isn't filled for the most part with happiest of times, but with a lot of pain due to her drugs, alcohol, and rehab and being broke. Her estate is destitute - she has no money and won't gain any money from the songs she recorded as that money goes to the songwriters, not to her. It is a real shame she "chose" drugs over her voice and her life!.

  • Without Dolly Parton writing the lyrics, Whitney Houston would never have had a hit with this song! The royalities of this song, go to Dolly Parton, never to the singer. Whitney had a stronger vocal range than does Dolly, but nice version of this song sung by the originator!

  • nice voice...

  • eat this justin bieber. !

  • i think i have something in my eye. some dust or somethin. allergies maybe.

  • Love this version. It's full of sadness, and you can really relate to this beautiful song. Whitney's version is magnificent but I sit enthralled by Whitney's beautiful voice, however with Dolly's version, I actually listen to the lyrics...really feel Dolly means every word that she says. Both versions are great in different ways. Rest in Peace, Whitney.

  • Dolly may have had better boobs than Whitney, but at least Dolly could always sing her own song where Whitney was often off-key and booed for this song because she simply could not sing it live!!! There are two videos of her getting booed for this song on Youtube that I know of! There is not one video of Dolly ever getting booed for this song!

  • @quadraphonicfreak well for one, Whitney had a drug problem which, hurt her voice very bad, 2nd if the person who made the original song sung it live, they probably wouldn't boo her, because there is no right or wrong way to sing the song, and last you can't compare, two very good singers, because they're two different people, and to different genres, Dolly's singing country, Whitney singing R&B.

  • Well, since Dolly wrote the song to begin with, guess who really made the fortune from the song? Remember the song writers, and not the singers, are the ones who make money every single time the song is played! Dolly must have had an orgasm when Whitney recorded this, thereby making Dolly millions of more dollars when it became it a hit for Whitney years later....Whitney got paid once for recording the song while Dolly will be paid every single time it is ever played forever!!!!

  • @quadraphonicfreak that is true whitney's estate wont get any money from it, only dolly.

  • Whitney did it great, but Dolly didn't abuse drugs. You people make it ok to be a drug user as long as your famous. An average Joe overdoses and we don't hear anything about him.

  • @jbnremt She wasn't using when she sang that song or when she sold any of the 60 million albums before then. Everyone screws up. Hers just happened to be publicly. Whitney's legacy is too huge to be dismissed just because she became an addict later in life.

  • 11 dislikes!!!wtf no heats!!losers

  • Such a sweet voice.

  • thank you dolly for making this song so whitney coyld knock it out the ball park!!!!

  • musica linda..amo essa cantora..bjss

  • Ok everybody that's comparing whitney and dolly shut the fuck up if you don't have anything nice to say don't say it at all you are all being bitches dolly this dolly that whitney over didn't that version was cheesy blah blah blah have respect for the dead she has a outrageously beautiful voice and y'all are just mad because she is a beautiful black rollmodel that has a good career and was awesomely talented get over yourselfs bitches fuck the next person who compares them because whitney is bes

  • WAOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

    IS WONDERFULLLLLLL

    THE VERSION BEST

    THANK YOU

  • I'm a child from 75', so I remember The Little Whorehouse In Texas, and let me tell y'all this. Dolly's version is the best in my opinion. When time comes along like it always does, it's the original that comes up all the time. Always.

  • Whitney had a bigger voice, but I would Dolly's low-key original version is actually better in some ways. One thing for example, Whitney's version has that cheesy sax in the background.

  • With all due respect to Whitney (And I'm a 80s kid) I love her song but noone does it like Dolly.

  • Beautiful. And knowing the circumstances that led her to write this song only makes it more poignant. That she made it a #1 hit TWICE, followed by Whitney Houston's powerhouse #1 version is a testament to the simple beauty and universal appeal of this song. :-)

  • Pure music, in every sense

  • Whitney could never have done this song as good if Dolly had not written it NOR shown her how to emphasize it. No offense to Whitney, she did knock it out of the park but Dolly laid the path

  • Both versions are great . But I like Dolly's version better.

  • This song is meant to touch your heart, not blow you out of the ballpark. Dolly's got my vote.

  • @Potsavokian

What??! Lol that doesn't even make sense! HA!

  • @crystj1988 The "ballpark" comment is a metaphor for Whitney's rendition.

  • @ 3:37 oooooh she pretty @ 3:44 OMG what happend ........

  • @Esmeralda5345 Money is what happened to Dolly Parton.

  • Bardziej podoba mi się wykonanie Whitney Houston.

  • You may have forgotten Dolly covered this herself for the film version of "Best Little Whorehouse in Texas", and it was a hit in the 80s. I like all three versions, including Whitney's, but this is my favorite.

  • I always remember Dolly in an interview saying how she & her bank ballance loved Whitney covering this track lol. Gotta love Dolly.

  • Contrary to most people out there, I'm sure, Dolly brings way more soul to the song than Whitney. Not that Whitney's version is bad, it's great (and I remember thinking so when it first came out) but she turned a soulful country classic into a poppy power ballad. Nice but different.

  • u obvious prefer country because Whitney is known for this song, not Dolly with all due respect so that goes to show you who sang it better.@jyotizzle

  • @blessit Dolly has been known for this song for a very long time, much longer than Whitney Houston has. I don't mean that as a dig on Whitney or her version, but to say Dolly's version wasn't well known is incorrect.

  • Dolly's version has the warmth and emotion lacking in Witney's contrived rendition. Of course Witney has a fantastic voice and I love her version but, for me I will always love Dolly's version.

  • the original version Country Music Rocks!

  • I dont like the country version of the song.Brilliant writing by dolly. Whitney brought life to the song.

  • not as good as whitney

  • I didn't hear Dolly sing the "I DO NOT OWN ANYTHING" part listed in the lyrics. Maybe those lyrics are to a different recording of the track?

  • @justiceleague3000 , LOL, that is just a copyright disclaimer.

  • It's like Dolly's hair and breasts are in competition over which one can get bigger !(◎_◎;)

  • god bless you whitney america loves you and hopfully i will join you in heaven

  • @karazze0285 This is Dolly's song! not Whitney's, this is Dolly singing not Whitney, Whitney could not write a song like this.

  • @cljc47 she sure as hell sang it a lot better though :) I'd rather hear a copy with great POWER and SOUL than the original that sounds like a scared 14 year old auditioning for texas got talent.

  • I was introduced to this song via Porter Wagner's show when Dolly was on it. She was the only reason I watched the show, and truth be told, it wasn't because of her singing. Now, I recognize how real the song is. Country of Soul. It crosses over genres because it's the real thing. Before Taylor Swift was writing and singing, there was Dolly. I thank her for putting her heart down on vinyl. It does us all good.

  • What A Great Song!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • What A Great Song!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • listening to Both of Them make me cry, they're both so beautiful.

  • I cherish all of Dolly's songs, but Whitney did put some heart into it also...they are both...well, just different, one sweet, one intense...love them both

  • love love love this song, Dolly is the most brillant songwriter ever!!!! thank you Dolly for writing this.

  • I sooo love to hear Dolly sing this song! She sounds so sweet and so innocent!

  • My favorite is the duet with Dolly and Vince Gill. I can hear it 100 times in a row. I love Dolly's especially from The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas. It's a shame that Whitney is gone. Sad and tragic ending. My favorite song by Whitney is by far "The Star Spangled Banner." The very best I have heard.

  • Your lyrics are WRONG! The Correct words for the first few lines are:

So I'll go, but I know I'll think of you each step of the way

  • @angelartpainter dolly made and sang this song first way before whitney houston sang it

that line that you talked about was added by ron paul that made his breath smell like toilet and his feet smell like cheese

  • I think J1129 hit it right on the head...whitneys performance was dynamic and powerful but you can tell its obviously dollys song...you can hear it in her voice...this song is part of her soul.

RIP whitney, your suffering is over now.

  • No Crackhead Adulation here. This is the way the song should be sung.

  • I have always loved the original. Thank you.

  • It's Dolly's song. She owns it!

  • To this day a truly talented, well grounded writer and performer. Not a diva in any sense of the word and what an honest and open personality. Pleasure to listen to and watch solo or in a duet. There aint no one like Dolly that's for sure.

  • Dolly is truly one of the best song writers ever to live, and I thank her for writing this paticular song, and she sang it so wonderful, it was absolutly amazing.. But I have to admit when Whitney did the remake of the song it tottaly blew me away.. It was so amazing!! Nobody can put down like that girl.. And Nobody ever will!! RIP Whitney, your music will live in our hearts forever baby girl ;(

  • Whitney's version is more powerful, but Dolly's version is much more sincere & sentimental. Nothing compares to the emotional sincerity in a singer's voice when they sing the words that they themselves wrote.

  • @J1129 I totally agree, I'm a Whitney fan, but this is Dolly's song, and I like her version better

  • R I P W H

  • I've been in love with this original version ever since I was a small kid. The vulnerability, tenderness and intimacy that Dolly put into it is second to none. Whitney's version was a little too polished and too bombastic for my taste, but it fit the movie.

I do respect Whitney deeply, however, because she gave us some awesome music. Her voice will be missed. RIP Whitney.

  • Dolly must be making loads of royalties for this song right now! WOW!

  • Comment removed

  • I love this song whether it is done by Whitney or Dolly. Whitney sung it with a soulful black voice and Dolly sung it whith a county twine to it. I say that I have heard a country version and a soul version of this song.

  • damn i love both dolly and whitney

  • I love both versions. Honestly I could not chose between the two. They are both different and beautfiul and moving.

  • There is only, and only will ever be, one Dolly.

  • Hard to listen to this, even now. The anthem for all the soul mates who just weren't meant to be.

  • chupame la pija

  • They were/are tremendously gifted singers, with totally different types of voices and styles.

Whitney had a "power" voice, so naturally she did the "power ballad." Dolly's voice, on the other hand, is softer, higher, more plaintive.

With this song, she sounds like she's going to cry herself to sleep, while you get the feeling that Whitney might go out and key the bum's car. Both women deserve respect, as gifted vocalists.

  • Goosebumps and tears...

  • Goosebumps...

  • A very moving tribute to a guy she didn't like working with, who later sued her. Good for her. Glad she made a mint on it. She should have sang it last night at the Grammy's tribute for Whitney Houston. This is Dolly's song, however silly and unromantic her reasons for writing it. However more genuine Ms. Parton can't help but be, no matter how much silicone she sticks in her body.

  • @brelfan I agree with you on that she should have sung it Not Jennifer Hudson have the original sorry it seems the music Industry only thinks it has to be a race thing and African Americans are all that can sing ones song, but this is Dolly's Song long before Whitney sang it and always will be

  • @matadormike1970 I hope they called Dolly and asked. You'd have to assume they would in this case, right? Dolly should have a copyright. She's at least as much a star as Ms. Hudson, and this is her song.

  • @brelfan As members of ASCAP or BMI,who make sure artist get their royalties from sources such as TV radio juke boxes, U have a right to use ASCAP or BMI songs that they protect. I can assure you that Dolly loved Whitney when she got her royalty check from ASCAP and BMI. American Society of Composers Arrangers and Performers & Broadcast Music Inc.are the watch dog who sure every little radio station pays to use its members music collecting royalties.Performer who aren't members haven't paid2use

  • @brelfan I saw a Dolly Parton interview few weeks before Huston's death. She was asked if she was jealous of Huston because her rendition sold many times more copies than Dolly's. This could of been considered a rude question, but Dolly just smiled and said that she was grateful. She said Whitney did a great job with it and that it made Dolly a lot of money! Dolly is a smart woman. Great songwriter, good singer and a smart businesswoman. I believe she has the rights to all her songs.

  • @theswoogie Yes, she makes money whomever sings her songs. I think Houston sang this as well as it can be sung. But when I pay for a CD, I purchase Dolly Parton. I'm more interested in feeling than technical perfection. She sings with strange emotional effect. Her songs can be haunting, I think moreso as she aged.

  • @brelfan i totally agree with u! i love whitney houstons version a lot, and believe it is sung 100x times better, but when i go on youtube, i go straight to dolly's version.

  • Whitney had more natural talent, but she can't beat the pure passion of Dolly singing it.

  • @leifdawg

Totally agree. The original was a simple love song and the ballad type rendition is more expressive than the overly dramatic rendition. JMO. You'll be missed Whitney so no disrespect intended.

  • @leifdawg I really disagree. Dolly had just as much natural talent if not more. Shes a great singer, she can play multiple instruments, she wrote over 3,000 songs, and she is a good actress too. Plus, not bad too look at.

  • This will always be the best version..

  • @SteveCTZ

    Agreed.

  • As for beauty of voice per se, Parton's is even greater than Streisand's.

  • Thank you for posting I love Dolly and Whitney great song that makes me feel love and loss at the same time in a spiritual way.

  • This rendition is appropriate to express the loss of Whitney. She is already sorely missed.

  • Dolly wrote this song for Porter Waggoner to my understanding. There's a sweetness here that is lost in Whitney's enormous presentation.

  • @thejimmyzshow

Precisely. The original version was a simple love song from the heart for someone Dolly had, in real life, been involved with. The emotion of the real life relationship is what is outstanding in Dolly's singing.

  • @TheWyldeHeart Is that right? I thought she said in interviews she wrote this when she parted ways with Porter Wagner, a country entertainer who kept her as a sidekick on his show. She and Wagner didn't get along. She bolted. Wrote this lovely song. He sued her and she settled. The song is lovely because Dolly's a talented gal. And Houston sang it extremely well.

  • Dolly sang this to me!

  • IMO Dolly should sing this song at Whitney's funeral

  • ...Dolly wrote this piece, so it is her creation as an artist...but, as singers....it's like two artists painting their version of a flower....both versions are beautiful renditions of a gorgeous creation...people will have preferences......but listen to yourselves and make sure you are not saying my preference is correct, and another person's preference is incorrect...

  • Comment removed

  • i absolutely love and cherish this original recording of a song so close and dear to dolly's heart. face it, whitney did a great job too, look at all the accolades, but this dolly version is my personal favorite and preference. the song makes me feel like i'm a part of it. dolly gave a piece of her soul to this one....

  • @sherribaby229 agreeing with the above i cry every time dolly sings this never fails to move me .

  • Dolly still does it better than Whitney.

  • I loved this song back when Dolly sang it! Whitney took an awesome song and took it over the top! RIP Whitney!

  • I will always love this, the version I was first familiar with, and thanks also to Whitney for lending her amazing voice to it. R I P Whitney.

  • I Love Both Dolly And Whitney Singing This Very beautiful Song

It Is Such A Awesome Song!!!! R I P Whitney GONE BUT NEVER FORGOTTEN!

  • Here 2 pay respects 2 Dolly n tha original version of tha song. I'll add RIP 2 Whitney Houston, who'z cover of diz song iz wonderul as well.

  • What a Talented Lady, Write Music, Sing it Beautifully, Funny and Beautiful to boot!

  • musica linda imterprete inconparavel

  • R.I.P whitney your music will go on for ever and ever always !!

  • Let's not disrespect Whitney here, she was an amazing singer, and made this song a monster hit, with a new twist and her own personal stamp on it. However, Dolly's version is so heartfelt and beautiful. Thank you for posting. Dolly fan here forever!

  • It's not a matter of one being better than the other...I love and respect both of these singers...I will always love and respect both...thank God that we still have Dolly! They are two phenomenal singers!

  • @kurabi827 its not like dolly is immortal O_o

  • @kurabi827 Agreed. If God speaks to us at all, this is what I imagine she would sound like - both versions. I'm very sad about the tragedy of Ms. Houston's death.

Dolly Parton was born with absolutely nothing - *literally* dirt poor. It is a miracle worthy of God that she could accomplish what she has accomplished, including writing this magnificent song.

By all accounts she is also a caring, loving, kind, modest, and, obviousy, gracious person.

I will always love them both.

  • R.I.P Whitney Dolly Gave you her best song and You gave it Dignity and Respect You had one of the best voices in music

  • This song breaks my heart. Dolly sings it so sweetly, so gently, saying goodbye to someone she loves very much. Just beautiful.

  • If Dolly ever passed away, The WHOLE WORLD WOULD MOURN! An Angel in a human body!

    LONG LIVE DOLLY!

  • Both Dolly and Whitney. Could not do more Perfect. It is Both of your Girls Song.

  • thank you dolly for writing a song used by other artists most famously Whitney Houston, although she sang with a different feel for the song, she did a beautiful job RIP Whitney God bless her family members left behind

  • dolly is great, and she does a great job in this song, her song. But in whitneys voice is the greatest love song of all.

  • by far the best version....

  • There is no one,"NO ONE", who can sing this like Dolly!!!!!!!! Whitney does total injustice to this song!!!!!

  • @anguti1 I agree, she Whitney messed it up.

  • Sem comentários...

  • This is such a beautiful, sweet song as sung by Dolly. I prefer it infinitely over Whitney's, who made it an ear-piercing power ballad. I remember watching The Porter Wagner show when I was very small. What a beautiful goodbye to her friend!

  • If people weren't so obsessed with Dolly's body, they would be surprised and delighted to find one of the best vocal talents to ever come out of the USA, not to mention a genuinely NICE person, which is quite rare in the performing arts these days.

  • @kirkwood512 what her voice is fantastic one on the bests and I mean DOLLY you seemed to be obsessed with her body thats way you made that comment

  • @kirkwood512 It's true, Dolly has big boobs, but I think she truely has a heart just as big.

  • My opinion is that this version is better

  • Me and my daughter Danielle love her so much We will go to Dollywood It is so good that I am 63 and Danielle is 31 but she is the bee all and end all ....
