I was at The Dragon last summer with my bro in early June. We went up on a Mon to try to miss the crowds. I was on a ST1300, and found the ride challenging on that bike, would have liked to have my SV1000s instead. Some kid on a rocket went wide in a turn and took out 2 bikes on the other side of the road. 2 people died in that accident!! Kewl road... cept for that!!!
That would be right. There are plenty of wrecks on the Dragon and adding your bike parts to the "Tree of Shame" is like a memorial to your bike and the ride.
There is a road in North Carolina (US 129) that is the curviest road in America. So hundreds of motorcyclist descend on it to ride the 13 miles of twists and turns. It is a lot of fun but requires good motorcycle skills. Search on "The Dragon" and you will find a lot of videos. Ride Safe.
Its a tree at the Deals Gap resort, where you hang a piece of your bike if you wreck there, or in some cases crutches, and what have you. At first thought its amusing, but then reality sets in and its quiet sobering. You'll slow down a bit if you ponder on that thing long enough.
I lost my spleen, broke my ribs, broke my shoulder. Just to make sure I wasn't bleeding internally. The Knoxville hospital cut me from groin to chest bone. Some idiot was trying to prove how fast he could ride the
Dragon . he hit me head on. Got my first helicopter ride that day. But we had to wait for two other separate bike accidents before we could go to the hospital.......Every year I say I will never ride on that road again...But some how it is in between here and there.
Thanks for the feedback and I highly recommend it. I've ridden it a number of times. Worth from where ever you need to come from. Especially if you ride it. :)
Nice area of the U.S.!! Nothing like riding in the South!
