Oooohhh...Them Dawgs. Seattle sportswriters had you at 12-0 in the pre-season. Hmm. They got that half right i suppose. Worst team in Pac 10 history. Yeah. It happened. Lets see, you have LSU coming up next. Ouch.
Are you guys kidding me? Counting the time the ball is in the air, you guys are ridiculous. You're just as bad as the pac 10 refs. What's next? Flagging touchdowns?
Have BYU put any one of our opponents on their schedule and see what happens! What happened last time BYU played FSU? Oh yeah, BYU got spanked (Jacksonville). Our record? One loss, ranked 16 in the BCS!
We played AND BEAT #3 Oklahoma.. and Bronco Mendenhall (BYU coach) was talking about how he has been trying to schedule "big" out of conference games but other schools have been declining the offer. Florida said they would play us only if it was 1 time and down in the swamp. They don't wanna chance it in Cougartown. Can't blame them. 4 10+ win seasons in a row! Bet you anything your team can't do that.
the ball took a good 4 seconds to come down. thats the right call. plus BYU blocked the kick anyway so Huskies... go crawl in a hole. you are 0-3. BYU.. 3-0

BYU blocked the kick, moron. So I guess Washington doesn't know shit about battling or executing under pressure. Otherwise they would have not let the BYU D-line through like surge waters over a levee in New Orleans.
If it was a conspiracy Washington must have been in on it to let the BYU defense break through the line as if it were not even there. Sorry, but the team that tried the hardest won. This is all a moot point because they could have made the extra point and they didn't.
I'm a BYU fan, and I think that that was s really rediculous call. Both coaches, and the players admitted that they hadn't even heard of the call before, the refs were stupid to make such an unrealistic call.
distance = velocity x time so 9.8 x 2.36 = 23.128 feet plus jake locker is 6 foot 3 that makes it 29.378 feet into the air how is that not a penalty? and plus on the play jake locker scored 25 on the defense was getting raped, there was a clip right as that was happening, and to top it all off on the PAT there was another hold dont complain that the refs were bad cause they missed a lot of stuff that shouldve gone against washington
Its obvious that this ref is involved with a gambling ring and he knew he could get away with this ridiculous call. I hope he got his winnings. And I hope the NCAA throws the flag at him and kicks his butt out of football!!!!

How childish to throw the ball in the air. What does that prove? Maybe he should have just stripped down to his boxers and ran and kissed a cheerleader... that would have been equally as "harmless" yet both are egregious and against the rules.
Well if you're a special teams coach, let's call UW right now!!! You people are totally missing the point. It wouldn't have mattered where the ball was, there were 4 guys right in front of the kicker. I quote WIllingham: "We count on ourselves being able to protect and get off the kick." Maybe 15 yds for the kids you coach is a big deal. College coaches actually expect their players to play. What is the only job of a lineman??? TO BLOCK.
I think it's a combination of both things, bad blocking and a lower kick trajectory. I will give you your props, the kick protection was horrible. No doubt, Willingham's quote was right, the line had a lot of holes in it.
"Never try to change your angle of trajectory, whether the kick be from the three yard line or the 43 yard line. If you can't get it past the line, then what's the point? If you kick it high enough, the distance will eventually come if you work at it."
yea srry... glacks2211 is right...ball being moved back further causes the kicker to lower his trajectory making it alot easier for a 6'4'' average lineman to jump and block it...i also think its quite funny thats suprisingly jred is a kicker of course because he wants to be right...and if you are, there is no pride in being a kicker
glacks2211 you must be the ring leader of the morons. forget the trajectory, have u seen the pictures from the game???? and having been a kicker myself, 15 yds isn't a huge deal. try going back to that play, you'll realize that no matter what the kicker did there were 4 guys right there to block it. blocking is the first thing to a successfull kick. THAT'S football IQ 101. Don't come back unless you have something intelligent to say.
I'm a high school football coach and I coach the special teams. I coach the kickers. If you were a kicker, you must have been pretty unsuccessful by not thinking 15 yards is a big deal or doesn't change how you kick the ball. You are the one who shouldn't come back. The ring of the morons and clown comments are very self-defining.
Bad call? No, but it is a bad rule. According to the rule, he did not just toss the ball over his shoulder like it said in all the reports, he launched the ball into the air. So by the rule, he was guilty of the unsportsmanlike penalty. But the rule needs to be stricken, worthless rule.
That was a bullshit call. I think the NCAA is taking the emotion out of the game. It's not as if Locker showed anyone up. He was just excited and didn't commit an unsportsmanlike act. What's so bad about what he did?
jred378 you're the clown for not knowing anything about special teams! You obviously do not realize that when the ball was moved back 15 yards that the kicker had kick the ball with a lower trajectory. That's football IQ 101. Why do think kicks at longer distances are more often blocked? Also, read the BYU special teams coach's comment about the kick. Let me remind again, YOU are the frickin' clown!
I don't think that I've deleted any, actually. I was on the sidelines for the first half, and part of the 3rd, all of the 4th quarter, where is the TD that you want?
It was decided on the PAT that BYU sent right back in your UW grill. Pansie kicker - get under it. Weak OL - get some protection. Losers who can't beat a NON BCS team on your home field.
the rule is understood that you must do soemthing that is preplanned or was demoralizing to the other team..adn yes this penalty got attention b/c it was a game altering call..also cmon if u ever played football there is holdong on every play so u just have to understand taht one..and trust me u dumbass i watched the game and it was a BS call..refs should not decide games..and trust me the game was gonna decided b/c i watched the UW coach say he was thinking about goin for 2 and didnt want OT
kingsrunwild - I promise you, he wasn't going to go for 2. He said in the press conference that he was sure that they could have gotten it in overtime. I don't think that UW could have pulled it out, but it was definately going to go into overtime.
well i didnt watch the press conference but i could have sworn i saw him throw up two fingers like he was thinkin about going for 2....and maybe UW couldnt have pulled it out but u atleast have to give them that shot to try.....i jsut hate seein a game end on something like that...bugs me cause it happens alot in college sports i know Florida got screwed by officiating in Tenn a couple years ago and since then i jsut dont like seein teams win like that..
He instantly put up 1 finger - you tube it and you can see. He's not dumb enough to go for 2. If they go for 2 and don't get it he's out of a job Monday.
Why isn't the penalty on the kickoff? I just watched Chad Johnson get a penalty in an NFL game, and the extra point was kicked from the normal spot. Why does college assess the penalty on the extra point?
When I heard the call I thought that's ridiculous. After watching the video he deserved a penalty. The rule states clearly what is unsportmanship like conduct and he violated it. However, the problem is the refs aren't calling it all the time like they should. It only got attention because it was one of the final plays of the game. If it was earlier no one would care about the penalty. The only people who really should be blamed is the WU players who didnt block. They knew what was coming.
its a penalty cuz its in the rules yeah, but it shouldnt be in the rules to begin with. its a horrible stupid pathetic rule. these kids put their bodies on the line to play a game they love, let them enjoy their successes as long as they arent beligerent about it. and as far as i can see, locker certainly was not beligerent.
I'm a BYU fan and didn't like the call. But it is a rule and needed to be enforced. They need to change the rule. It is a bad way to win given how well Locker played. He's going to be a great NFL player.
this has to be one of the worst calls in college football...im from Florida and im a gator fan but i was watching this game before the UF-Miami game...the quarterback made an excellent play...and theres a big difference in kicking a PAT and a 35 yard PAT...and BYU fans ur lucky u escaped...they would have won that game..but the refs changed the ending..so BYU fans feel lucky ur still undefeated...and to chilenito quit tryin to justify the call it was a horrible call and the ref shouldbe punished
You must haven't watched the game... I was there, and saw it on TV... BYU deserved the win. THere were MANY calls that went unblown in favor of the W, including on this scoring drive, hodling, pushes in the back, late hits, etc... Stop winning about the rule. It is in the books and it bites both ways. This is a fair win
what makes you think that Washington would have won the game if the penalty wasn't called? They couldn't stop BYU in the fourth quarter, BYU marched all over them offensively. The PAT would have only sent the game into overtime, not won it for W.
This play happened right in front of us. Yes it was just a flip but when you're with a DI quarterback and a baseball, a flip easily becomes the 25 feet that it traveled into the air as it spiraled. Regardless, BYU blocked the PAT which sealed the win for a team which outplayed UW the whole game anyway. Stop whining, Udubyah!
Dumb rule but within the letter of the rule...he broke it. He didn't need to fling it like that. Understand he was excited and caught up in the moment but you've got to know the rules. Besides, a 35 yard FG still shouldn't be blocked.
Nah man, don't be a douche, you'd do the exact same thing if you scored one of the biggest TDs of your life. I don't buy anyone's reasoning for one second if you expect a human being to think about every conceivable rule in this situation.
Considering that the player was able to jump up and down before the ball landed, he didn't "flip" the ball into the air. It was a clear violation of the rule.
You score a touchdown when your team is trailing and set your team up for the tying xp and you expect someone not to be excited about it. That wasn't even a real celebration. These are people not robots they are going to show emotions. That's the passion behind college football. What a bull call!!!
I think it's gross how BYU goes in and out of games like this with their own bad sportsmanship and pretends that their rude controversial wins help the church with missionary work. Cool it cougs. If you were legitimate, this wouldn't have been close enough for controversy anyways.
The bad sports are the Washington fans. BYU won and now everybody says it wasn't legitimate. BYU was the better team controversial ending or not. There is no way of knowing if the outcome would have been different if the call hadn't been made.
1 word for any team outside of the Pac-10 that has had to come and deal with their mediocre refs (a-la missed called on the hold.. *ahem* .. more like tackle.. on that 4th down play)...
I think what all fans want to see is 59:58 of football resolved by an official rather than the 22 players on the field... The penalty took the 2 pt conversion off the table, and BYU had shown time and time again an inability to stop Mr Locker, now all we have is a question how that game could have ended if it had been played out...
I don't particularly care about either team but anyone saying this was not a huge misjudgment by the ref is clearly biased. In a game that close you let the players decide it not some ref. And for people saying the kick was still blocked and that a 30 yard kick is as easy as a extra point really doesn't know what they are talking about. That kick is completely different than an extra point. Seriously stop being biased little punks just because your a BYU fan.
im just amazed that UW fans are in such irate after seeing the HUGE hold and UW when they got that 20+ yard catch and no call. that happened all game and BYU still won. Oh and should I mention that was penalty #3 on UW for the whole game? We're gonna beat UCLA at home when we actually have some FAIR refs
The best part of that clip is when one BYU defender number 25 is being hugged by the Husky O-line, right at the same time that another defender is getting blocked in the back. Amazing that the best call that could be called as a penalty was unsportsmanlike conduct. Unfortunately, those moves by the Husky O-line were ignored all day.
It sucks the game had to end that way. But, it's obvious ESPN has an agenda...Lou Holtz "the ball fell out of his hand"...Mark May "he tossed it over his shoulder". Come on the guy chucked it 15+ feet in the air...easy.
Locker is a stud. The game was great. The ending was unfortunate, but check the stats (BYU won every category) and don't forget the kick was blocked no matter where it was from. Go Cougs.
What, because homosexuals always call unsportsmanlike conduct penalties? Hadn't realized the connection between sexuality and pissing off Husky fans. Noted.
i was at the game and the refs totaly fucked us, total bullshit they took away a chance in ot to beat byu. and why the fuck are they ranked # 15 they are shit they got lucky against uw and will never go to bcs bowl game because they only play nobody schools and their schedule is a joke
woops, quick correction (haven't done Newtonian physics in years, nor have I wanted to until now). The height the ball reached from the release point was 22.5 feet and the total height (measuring from the ground) had to be close to 26 feet.
Here is the math: assuming the ball thrown from about shoulder height and the ball was in the air for 2.36 seconds. From Locker's arm height, it reached a height of 19 feet. Including Locker's approximate height, the ball went over 22 feet into the air. Is this high? You decide.
Not a good enough reason for me. Meaning, that was not unsportsman like. That was, by any means, showing up the other team. Period. Regardless of who you were rooting for. Common sense, people. Common sense.
If the ball was in the air 2.4 seconds (like you claim) that would mean it went 23.2 feet above Lockers head for a total of 29 feet into air. (assuming Locker is 6 feet tall)
30 feet into the air? Yeah, you could say that was high.
Whether we like it or not a rule is a rule. Locker broke the rule he gets penalized. Almost 3 seconds in the air is a lot more than a flip over the shoulder.
Glad that BYU won, but sad that it has to be overshadowed by people complaining about the celebration rule.
The rule may be stupid (it is) but he broke it and for once, the Pac 10 officials made a good call. UW should have got their butts rolled were it not for all of the No Calls and the Pansie late hit call against BYU. Pac 10 team? UW belongs in the Sun Belt.
yes Jake threw the ball high in the air, not just "flipped behind his back" like those ESPN guys were saying. but to call unsportsmanlike conduct on the play is ridiculous, rule or not. BYU blew up our line on the kick - didn't matter that Perkins slipped or kicked low. it had no chance. wish we could have seen if Ty would have gone for 2 and the win after the TD. now Ty might get canned after another loss
Probably was sarcasm, but they were a Pac-10 officiating crew, and, as for it not being a controversial call? Washington was preparing to go for the two point conversion to win the game, and the penalty forced them to go for a tie, controversial enough for ya?
This is why excessive celebration rules are stupid. As long as you are not taunting and delaying the game, so what?

yea srry... glacks2211 is right...ball being moved back further causes the kicker to lower his trajectory making it alot easier for a 6'4'' average lineman to jump and block it...i also think its quite funny thats suprisingly jred is a kicker of course because he wants to be right...and if you are, there is no pride in being a kicker
dablow5454 3 years ago
Agreed! He was probably on the soccer team and suited up for the football team on Fridays, but never got to kick.
glacks2211 3 years ago
glacks2211 you must be the ring leader of the morons. forget the trajectory, have u seen the pictures from the game???? and having been a kicker myself, 15 yds isn't a huge deal. try going back to that play, you'll realize that no matter what the kicker did there were 4 guys right there to block it. blocking is the first thing to a successfull kick. THAT'S football IQ 101. Don't come back unless you have something intelligent to say.
jred378 3 years ago
I'm a high school football coach and I coach the special teams. I coach the kickers. If you were a kicker, you must have been pretty unsuccessful by not thinking 15 yards is a big deal or doesn't change how you kick the ball. You are the one who shouldn't come back. The ring of the morons and clown comments are very self-defining.
glacks2211 3 years ago
Please, please tell me you are not a kicking coach! I feel for your kickers...they aren't going anywhere past high school.

Hilarious -- it seems like most of you in denial that the right call would have been a no call are the BYU fans.
Why not also post the video of BYU's first TD celebration where BYU player spikes the ball on to the ground?
Was there a call -- no.
Was there a complaint -- no.
Then what gives -- what's with the double standard being displayed by the BYU fans?
MontlakeJake 3 years ago
Bad call? No, but it is a bad rule. According to the rule, he did not just toss the ball over his shoulder like it said in all the reports, he launched the ball into the air. So by the rule, he was guilty of the unsportsmanlike penalty. But the rule needs to be stricken, worthless rule.
gbowles76 3 years ago
That was a bullshit call. I think the NCAA is taking the emotion out of the game. It's not as if Locker showed anyone up. He was just excited and didn't commit an unsportsmanlike act. What's so bad about what he did?
marcus813 3 years ago
what you clowns fail to realize is that either way that weak UW special teams choked. They lost the game because the kick was blocked, end of story.
jred378 3 years ago
jred378 you're the clown for not knowing anything about special teams! You obviously do not realize that when the ball was moved back 15 yards that the kicker had kick the ball with a lower trajectory. That's football IQ 101. Why do think kicks at longer distances are more often blocked? Also, read the BYU special teams coach's comment about the kick. Let me remind again, YOU are the frickin' clown!
glacks2211 3 years ago
glacks2211, you have obviously never kicked a football at a level higher than freshman year of high school.
You talk about football IQ 101, yet if you knew anything about kicking, you would know that you kick every single field goal the same way.

Why are you deleting so many legit comments?
Please add the video of BYU WR Collie basically spiking/throwing the ball between his legs after a TD like as if it were a basketball.
Thanks!
fredocorleone 3 years ago
I don't think that I've deleted any, actually. I was on the sidelines for the first half, and part of the 3rd, all of the 4th quarter, where is the TD that you want?

That was so sad to decide a game on that bullshit
USARoadtrippin 3 years ago
It was decided on the PAT that BYU sent right back in your UW grill. Pansie kicker - get under it. Weak OL - get some protection. Losers who can't beat a NON BCS team on your home field.
frickface1 3 years ago
the rule is understood that you must do soemthing that is preplanned or was demoralizing to the other team..adn yes this penalty got attention b/c it was a game altering call..also cmon if u ever played football there is holdong on every play so u just have to understand taht one..and trust me u dumbass i watched the game and it was a BS call..refs should not decide games..and trust me the game was gonna decided b/c i watched the UW coach say he was thinking about goin for 2 and didnt want OT
kingsrunwild 3 years ago
kingsrunwild - I promise you, he wasn't going to go for 2. He said in the press conference that he was sure that they could have gotten it in overtime. I don't think that UW could have pulled it out, but it was definately going to go into overtime.
NotJoelShapiro 3 years ago
well i didnt watch the press conference but i could have sworn i saw him throw up two fingers like he was thinkin about going for 2....and maybe UW couldnt have pulled it out but u atleast have to give them that shot to try.....i jsut hate seein a game end on something like that...bugs me cause it happens alot in college sports i know Florida got screwed by officiating in Tenn a couple years ago and since then i jsut dont like seein teams win like that..
kingsrunwild 3 years ago
He instantly put up 1 finger - you tube it and you can see. He's not dumb enough to go for 2. If they go for 2 and don't get it he's out of a job Monday.

Why isn't the penalty on the kickoff? I just watched Chad Johnson get a penalty in an NFL game, and the extra point was kicked from the normal spot. Why does college assess the penalty on the extra point?
envision2k 3 years ago
i believe u get the option of either
jbraden08 3 years ago
In college you get the choice: On the PAT or the Kick off.
frickface1 3 years ago
When I heard the call I thought that's ridiculous. After watching the video he deserved a penalty. The rule states clearly what is unsportmanship like conduct and he violated it. However, the problem is the refs aren't calling it all the time like they should. It only got attention because it was one of the final plays of the game. If it was earlier no one would care about the penalty. The only people who really should be blamed is the WU players who didnt block. They knew what was coming.
mikeakajb 3 years ago 2
its a penalty cuz its in the rules yeah, but it shouldnt be in the rules to begin with. its a horrible stupid pathetic rule. these kids put their bodies on the line to play a game they love, let them enjoy their successes as long as they arent beligerent about it. and as far as i can see, locker certainly was not beligerent.

I'm a BYU fan and didn't like the call. But it is a rule and needed to be enforced. They need to change the rule. It is a bad way to win given how well Locker played. He's going to be a great NFL player.

Once he learns how to throw. He makes Vince Young look accurate.
In all seriousness, huge upside for that kid.
frickface1 3 years ago
this has to be one of the worst calls in college football...im from Florida and im a gator fan but i was watching this game before the UF-Miami game...the quarterback made an excellent play...and theres a big difference in kicking a PAT and a 35 yard PAT...and BYU fans ur lucky u escaped...they would have won that game..but the refs changed the ending..so BYU fans feel lucky ur still undefeated...and to chilenito quit tryin to justify the call it was a horrible call and the ref shouldbe punished
kingsrunwild 3 years ago
You must haven't watched the game... I was there, and saw it on TV... BYU deserved the win. THere were MANY calls that went unblown in favor of the W, including on this scoring drive, hodling, pushes in the back, late hits, etc... Stop winning about the rule. It is in the books and it bites both ways. This is a fair win
camaramanoel 3 years ago
what makes you think that Washington would have won the game if the penalty wasn't called? They couldn't stop BYU in the fourth quarter, BYU marched all over them offensively. The PAT would have only sent the game into overtime, not won it for W.
cwmcougars 3 years ago
This play happened right in front of us. Yes it was just a flip but when you're with a DI quarterback and a baseball, a flip easily becomes the 25 feet that it traveled into the air as it spiraled. Regardless, BYU blocked the PAT which sealed the win for a team which outplayed UW the whole game anyway. Stop whining, Udubyah!
chilenito2008 3 years ago
Horrible call... Everybody in the country thinks so except BYU fans.
tmartin1313 3 years ago
Dumb rule but within the letter of the rule...he broke it. He didn't need to fling it like that. Understand he was excited and caught up in the moment but you've got to know the rules. Besides, a 35 yard FG still shouldn't be blocked.
Duckleft 3 years ago 2
Nah man, don't be a douche, you'd do the exact same thing if you scored one of the biggest TDs of your life. I don't buy anyone's reasoning for one second if you expect a human being to think about every conceivable rule in this situation.
CJBassett86 3 years ago
A douche? So we have to agree with you or we are all douches? Well aren't you just a douche.
Look, I didn't say the rule is reasonable or fair. But it is the rule. The problem isn't the call. The problem is the NCAA wrote a retarded rule.
Duckleft 3 years ago 2
Rules are rules. The ball hung in the air for a more than two seconds. It just didn't drop behind him.
It is like crying about getting a speeding ticket in a school zone for going the normal speed and not the school speed.

Absolutely a bullshit call. The ball was flipped into the air. Not chucked, tossed into the stands, or spiked with lots of force.
ur1sab 3 years ago
Considering that the player was able to jump up and down before the ball landed, he didn't "flip" the ball into the air. It was a clear violation of the rule.

Could you add the vid of the BYU WR Collie scoring a TD and celebrating by throwing the football between his legs as if it were a basketball? Thanks!
fredocorleone 3 years ago
You score a touchdown when your team is trailing and set your team up for the tying xp and you expect someone not to be excited about it. That wasn't even a real celebration. These are people not robots they are going to show emotions. That's the passion behind college football. What a bull call!!!

I think it's gross how BYU goes in and out of games like this with their own bad sportsmanship and pretends that their rude controversial wins help the church with missionary work. Cool it cougs. If you were legitimate, this wouldn't have been close enough for controversy anyways.
EbenezerTheGreat 3 years ago
The bad sports are the Washington fans. BYU won and now everybody says it wasn't legitimate. BYU was the better team controversial ending or not. There is no way of knowing if the outcome would have been different if the call hadn't been made.

I think what all fans want to see is 59:58 of football resolved by an official rather than the 22 players on the field... The penalty took the 2 pt conversion off the table, and BYU had shown time and time again an inability to stop Mr Locker, now all we have is a question how that game could have ended if it had been played out...
wgriffith7 3 years ago 2
I don't particularly care about either team but anyone saying this was not a huge misjudgment by the ref is clearly biased. In a game that close you let the players decide it not some ref. And for people saying the kick was still blocked and that a 30 yard kick is as easy as a extra point really doesn't know what they are talking about. That kick is completely different than an extra point. Seriously stop being biased little punks just because your a BYU fan.
zstraub65 3 years ago
2. After a score or any other play, the player in possession immediately
must return the ball to an official or leave it near the dead-ball spot.
This prohibits:
(c) Throwing the ball high into the air.

buzzboi921 3 years ago
im just amazed that UW fans are in such irate after seeing the HUGE hold and UW when they got that 20+ yard catch and no call. that happened all game and BYU still won. Oh and should I mention that was penalty #3 on UW for the whole game? We're gonna beat UCLA at home when we actually have some FAIR refs
wildeone121 3 years ago
The best part of that clip is when one BYU defender number 25 is being hugged by the Husky O-line, right at the same time that another defender is getting blocked in the back. Amazing that the best call that could be called as a penalty was unsportsmanlike conduct. Unfortunately, those moves by the Husky O-line were ignored all day.
Eat it Huskies. You lost and were outmatched!
treylortaylor 3 years ago
The rule in question is Rule 9, Section 2, Article 1 of the rule book.
Section C of that rule states that "throwing the ball high into the air" is an unsportsmanlike act.
Rules are rules. The refs sucked and missed calls all day, but this one was correct.
ronguers 3 years ago
It sucks the game had to end that way. But, it's obvious ESPN has an agenda...Lou Holtz "the ball fell out of his hand"...Mark May "he tossed it over his shoulder". Come on the guy chucked it 15+ feet in the air...easy.
Locker is a stud. The game was great. The ending was unfortunate, but check the stats (BYU won every category) and don't forget the kick was blocked no matter where it was from. Go Cougs.

Scoreboard.
mikoyle 3 years ago
woops, quick correction (haven't done Newtonian physics in years, nor have I wanted to until now). The height the ball reached from the release point was 22.5 feet and the total height (measuring from the ground) had to be close to 26 feet.
BobDole31415 3 years ago
Here is the math: assuming the ball thrown from about shoulder height and the ball was in the air for 2.36 seconds. From Locker's arm height, it reached a height of 19 feet. Including Locker's approximate height, the ball went over 22 feet into the air. Is this high? You decide.
BobDole31415 3 years ago 2
Not a good enough reason for me. Meaning, that was not unsportsman like. That was, by any means, showing up the other team. Period. Regardless of who you were rooting for. Common sense, people. Common sense.
matshaw60 3 years ago
If the ball was in the air 2.4 seconds (like you claim) that would mean it went 23.2 feet above Lockers head for a total of 29 feet into air. (assuming Locker is 6 feet tall)
30 feet into the air? Yeah, you could say that was high.
brjphoto 3 years ago 3
Whether we like it or not a rule is a rule. Locker broke the rule he gets penalized. Almost 3 seconds in the air is a lot more than a flip over the shoulder.
Glad that BYU won, but sad that it has to be overshadowed by people complaining about the celebration rule.
ClarTV 3 years ago 3
The rule may be stupid (it is) but he broke it and for once, the Pac 10 officials made a good call. UW should have got their butts rolled were it not for all of the No Calls and the Pansie late hit call against BYU. Pac 10 team? UW belongs in the Sun Belt.
frickface1 3 years ago 3
That ball must have been thrown 20 feet in the air, not a simple flip. Still a crappy call though.
sipra 3 years ago
yes Jake threw the ball high in the air, not just "flipped behind his back" like those ESPN guys were saying. but to call unsportsmanlike conduct on the play is ridiculous, rule or not. BYU blew up our line on the kick - didn't matter that Perkins slipped or kicked low. it had no chance. wish we could have seen if Ty would have gone for 2 and the win after the TD. now Ty might get canned after another loss
