The eviction from Eden was to prevent A&E from eating from the Tree of Life and, thus, living forever. Death was built into Adam and Eve from the beginning.

Furthermore, God cursed Adam DUE TO the disobedient act of eating forbidden fruit. Thus, merciful God, to prevent Adam from living eternally that way (cursed) exiled them from paradise.

Genesis 2:5-7 Specifically notice how it say's "and there was no man to work the ground" also how GOD CReATED THE FiRST HUMAN: "then the Lord God formed the man of dust from the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living creature."
It goes further than Adam and Eve being the first who God made himself known. For they were the first that God's spirit (image) was placed into them. Prior to that there were humans, but they were not made in His image.
While i think it is likely that genesis and adam and eve tell of our departure from natural life in our root natural habitats. Passed down for thousands of years by word of mouth ever since we had basic language fit for that task, then written down when we developed a written language. All the god stuff is a reflection of those peoples early superstitions and has been present in all religions to one degree or another. All the modern god stuff is a reflection of peoples abused superstitions.
