MY all time favorite Porter song. from an album produced by Chet Atkins..recorded when porter was on pain pills after a back injury. The name of the album was something like"Whatever will be will be and whatever can't be just might happen" not exactly the title but close..That is also the title of one of the other tracks.
@Barrykrocker I'm no Wagoner know it all, but The Rubber Room was originally on the album What Ain't To Be Just Might Happen which can be found on cd. If you haven't heard Waldo the Weirdo by Wagoner as well, check it out. Hope this helps. I love Hazlewood, Van Zandt and Walker as well!
@Barrykrocker Best comment I have read on youtube for years! Seriously!!! All the three names you mention are among my favourite artists - and for sure it could have been a Townes-tune!
@Barrykrocker There's none that SOUND like this, but you might like The First Mrs. Jones, Julie, The Cold Hard Facts of Life, Wino, or Jim Johnson - goth classics all.
@flashbell what kind of treatment did Porter have? I never knew. I have been in many treatment facilities. I relate to much to this song. Its so hard to be this way.
@moby406 Johnny Cash wrote and recorded this song. It is a true song about his addiction to drugs. Porter was committed there {Parkview Hospital} too once. For what I don't know. Both sing it with conviction
Did someone heard the Alex Chilton's version??? He passed away just some hours ago, Chilton's version is inspiring, animal, howling, crazy! You gotta listen to it!!!
I just don't like this song. I'd rather remember Porter Wagoner like he always was. Joking., happy and Porter being Porter. I saw the DVD of this song and I was very upset that it could have been made. I was very disappointed. This is the only song I have heard on you channel I did not like. I want to remember Porter on the Grand Ole Opry stage.
You kiddin!?!?!? This ranks up there with Green Green Grass of Home baybuh!!!!! On a serious note, it is creepy, but I like seeing a different dimension of ol Porter.

A sincere song of mental anguish. True, most Saturday night shit-kickers would be dumbfounded by this, but it certainly has it's place. Love it
