The trouble with the 1st one is that in a wind, it easily flips and hits the deck, more spare parts needed (bent shafts). Always have a tooth brush or they don't work right. So in my eyes it's a toy but lots fun. Don't fly it in the wind.

I have the Ar Drone V1. Don't waste your money on whatever AR Drones, it's just a gizmo that doesn't perform as advertised. The control are already jittery at 20m away and don't think you'll use it to shoot superb photos/videos, or even to control it by watching the screen due to the short range. I am in the RC hobby and I can tell you those spare parts for the AR Drone are way overpriced, at least 5 folds. One of the motors even died after 3-4 flights, no crashing, another one a month later.

I saw one of these drones today at the Burlington Mall (Mass) and it may have been a 2.0 model, since the picture on the I-pad looked like HD.. Neat little flying machine. The salesman was talking to be while it just stood still a few feet away.. Maybe 4 feet off the floor. Instantly, I wanted one!!

I have the AR Drone v1 and I'm sorry to say it is not worth it. It is just a toy that breaks even before you start flying.  It is really expensive as well as the spare parts. Mine is now sleeping in the box.

Awsome thing. The possibility for a iPhone too do such things is reallly good. And it is really awsome. But i think it will lack in the game possibilities (the standard game on the first gen looked pretty boring and idk if there has ever been a game released for it). But it is a little too expensive for me. And i fully understand that it costs this much. I think it is a normal price.

I have the first one and it's def badass. V1 is flown from POV of the drone so the pilot needs to compensate for turns etc. V2.0 is flown from the POV of the PILOT so control is much easier with no compensation needed. It has presets where you can program flight aspects. I'll be getting the 2.0 once it's out. The HD cam is the big draw for me. Video capture on V1 was via 3rd party apps etc and quality was sketchy at best.This one looks amazing. Stopped in on your Vokle last week. Good stuff.

@petpef i think it's to protect the propellers in case you bump into anything. if you run into a wall then it'll just bounce off instead of the propellers getting damaged or damaging the wall.

You can switch between the front and bottom camera on the current model that I have. I was under the assumption that it was the same with the 2.0. I will have this as soon as I can get my hands on it. And @The0chabo... simple answer: To get aerial shots.

The first version had the camera on the bottom and used it to try and maintain its position. 289 for the old one or 299 for the new one? They need to make the motherboard allow a reset feature. When you hit the panic button and if it lands out of reach? Tough cookies, there is no way to retrieve it. Also I have no problem taking version one to 100 feet on my android.

@magicbuskey Nearly 7 times the range and 720 HD video capability. proximity sensor. they may have deleted a camera that points downward. I am not buying this because it's stupid. you can have just as much fun with 20$ helicopters and real time video capture might sounds great but I just don't think it's all practical in controlling the drone.
