PLEASE RESPOND: I want a pair of these and I have the money. I have an Astro MixAmp RX. If I buy a convertor (What is the one Trent has, called?) will I be able to talk to people on Xbox Live and listen to the game the normal way?
He is using a Astro Mixamp with a Y Splitter for PS3 which is what i have, if you want to use it for Xbox you need the xbox chat cable for your astro mixamp which you can buy from their website
@Paragski One more question, Trent says that the drivers were against his ears... as compared the Astro A40's is this uncomfortable? Because with the Astro's the drivers dont touch my ears but if they did I would imagine it would be uncomfortable.
Im not sure, I haven't got the MMX 300's I have got Astro's and Turtle Beach PX5's but for 300+ the MMX300's are a rip off they don't even have surround sound capabilities without a mixamp they are only stereo head phones, they sound like a total rip off.
@Paragski Hmm. Maybe they are lol. I never thought about that part. I really wish there was a store where I could try them since everyone gave great reviews but you defiantly are right about the stereo only unless you have a MixAmp. Thank you again :P You are a lot of help with me making the decision of buying these. :)
ANytime love to help :) Funny story for you I just got my PX5's in the mail today and my playstation died :( I didnt even get to try them out,but when I do i'll let you know ho w they are maybe you might want to get them instead they are supposed to be awesome.
For people who enjoy quality sound Stereo is the most important aspect. If you can get that right then having surround sound added to the mix is easy... All you need is a mix amp or a sound card and there you go...
I know how It work and I also know you need a mixamp all I was saying is I think it's not worth $350 if you are not getting surround sound out of the box, I wouldn't say they are high range gaming headsets then....
jishosan you just proved my point in your response. Do you realize that? Also i'm using a formidable output that rocks on all headphones except these.
I tested these on an Xfi titanium output directly from card. Sound is way too low. A rip off being to get sound up requires one of their 'amplifiers' for 100 plus. F this company being they won't allow me to return a half ass headset.
@nonameavailableuser You don't need their amp, but expecting a set of high end headphones to NOT need an amp is ridiculous. High impedence is a FEATURE of high end headphones, not just an unfortunate consequence. The high impedence eliminates background noise and hiss that you might otherwise hear on cheaper headphones.
@rosswaa Or people who just want great sound quality to compliment a normal gaming experience. Bass is great for enjoying single-player campaigns like in Halo or Mass Effect.
@rosswaa The MMX300 still has a greater soundstage than similar headsets (like the A40 or the PC360). If you have a high quality headphone, a punchy bass won't get in the way of positioning. But some people don't seem to understand that...noobs.
@KaiserBecks yeh very true but its just another distraction that could be avoided thats why i like using a bass limiter and frequency preference, for css id lower it so i can hear across the map without a random bade gettin in the way
Games like cod a little bass is nice, for music and films its even better
I LOVE my DT990s - and I can only imagine how good it would be if I had a worldclass mic hooked up as well. And you are right about the "too good" thing - I can hardly listen to even 320 Kbps MP3s with my Beyerdynamics - they are THAT good. Goddamn Germans don't fuck around with their audio.

Hey man, if its possible could you do a review on the GameCom X95's? I've only seen a couple of decent reviews and if you did one it would be amazing, because in my opinion its a really underated headset. Its up to you if you want to spend the money on them or not, but I assure you it will be a great investment. Just give them a go is all I'm saying.
Where can you buy the PC jack adapter? I have some white A40/5.8 mixamp(MLG edition, I'll sell them on eBay because I just want the mixamp 5.8) and Sennheiser PC360 on the way and I did not find the adapter anywhere, but I bought the Belkin headphone adapter(4poles 3.5mm) and I will plug a Y splitter to plug PC jack. Do you think it will work
Thanks for the review. Never would have looked at this headset otherwise.
I definitely get what you mean about the sound being "too good" for the compressed audio tracks. It's like, with my Sennheiser HD595s, they sound super crisp, clean, and good when driven by the $200 Asus Essence Headphone amp Driven sound card on my PC, but sound pretty crummy when driven by the Astro Mix-Amp.
I normally use my Tritton AXPro, however I just bought the Beyerdynamic Headzone Amp and the Beyerdynamic Tesla T1 headphones for movie watching. When using the combo for gaming the sound stage is amazing. Just hate being without a mic.
Oh no! I only bought a pair of Sennheiser PC360s a couple of months ago after watching your review of that headset. Still, I couldn't justify the cost of the MMX 300. Is the QPAD QH-1339 really the same headset as the MMX 300? (It looks it). On amazon.co.uk, the PC360s are £127.29, the QPAD is £222.47 and the MMX 300 is £346.78. Big difference!
@TheChocolateWontons I have the PX21s, P11s and Trittons AXPro. The P11s are great for it's price range. Very comfortable, but not very durable. If you play FPS shooter games like CoD, you can tell where footsteps are coming from with it's surround sound. Note: Only for PS3, idk about PC.
Another winner from Beyerdynamic! Having owned two versions of the DT770 as well as a DT880 and DT990, I'm a big Beyer fan. I was considering the MMX300 as my gaming headset, but I really wanted an open ear design, so I went with the PC360. Great review Trent. :)
if i can come up with the money i might buy this! i also recently baught the astro a40 with mix amp great by btw but is this worth the very high price? or am i better off sticking with the astro atleast for now
Thankyou Trent for such an in depth review. Full of detail, swimming with accurate comparisons and as always; professionally put and wonderfully presented.
@JeemOfRunescape economically speaking, the 770 pros can be found for less then 200, if you need a mic, Zalman Zm-Mic1 can be found for 11 bucks. That leaves you a good amount money for an amp if you need hookups to a console. (As apposed to a 350 dollar headphone) The bottom line is really a question if you have the 350 bucks to spend on these phones, I'm sure they are great but like the review said, you do not want to play compressed audio with these, it defeats the point of audiophile phones.
There are so many different model numbers on the Beyerdynamic website, things get really confusing. I really want to purchase the MMX 300 but the price is a killer for me.
Are you saying that the 770 Pro are almost identical to these ones? I don't need a Mic so if what you are saying is correct then that would be pretty awesome.
Also how would I get surround sound from these? I would think I need a sound card for pc and the mix amp for the PS3?
I am not in a position where I could tell you the difference, that said, I own the 80 ohms because most reviews have complimented the 770 pro 80s as 'the best' in solid and not bloated bass.
I also cannot tell you if the 770 pro 80s sound like the 300 since I do not own the 300s. I can say that the 770s meets all of my demands for movie, games and music.
I connect my 770s through a mixer surround sound device call JVC (or Victor) SU-DH1 connected to a FiiO e7 amp.
Hey can you test and review Turtle Beaches PX5 if you can get your hand on one, i am interested on buying them and i only trust your reviews :) Please
So Trent what's the better buy astro a40, sennheiser pc360 or this one? I'm looking to buy man thanks. I wanna know what the best deal is for what u get for the money
If you dont want a custom one and dont like the carbon look, you can check out the QPAD QH-1339. It's the same headset with a slighly lower price and different look
I've used the dt770(05ed 250ohm) almost everyday for five years and recently got a custom mmx300 and i have never ever had the wires get tangled in anything :) The wires are supposed to have like an s-shape that follows the yoke, making them almost invisible. They are not supposed to stick out. Did you test them with an amp? Will they benefit from one?

@akaTRENT Thank the lord. Senns have my eyes and I have both NOX headsets. Sadly, My Scouts' right bud got snagged so no more sound from that bud =[ Looking forward to them, brah.
This headset is ridiculous, the frequency response is 5-30,000Hz; which for a headset is before unheard of.
