@BoilMyBrownies You've obviously never used DOSbox..? It's a homebrew DOS port that allows Windows 3.1, 95 and 98 to be run on the PSP. Any higher would probably crash...

@TheFeelGoodDeath Well, my guess is that it's like an emulator. It emulates the MSDOS System, which then allows for very basic OS's to be loaded. Providing you know what MSDOS is, you should be able to understand what I just said. :) You can use DOSBox to run Windows PC games on your PSP too :)

ever heard of Damn small linux? even though the psp only has 333 mhz, that's much more than enough for most flavors of linux. it has 333mhz, 32mb ram (I think it might be even bigger), mini usb port, etc. it's very possible, like SpAMCAN said. you're the one that doesnt know anything about computers.

Don't bullshit, not only is it advertised as taking Ubuntu with you, advertised as being used at office computers, but I've actually tried it. It takes between 600 and 700 MB for Ubuntu and you choose to beefen it up beyond that to use as a sort of HDD. I've used this and it's a normal running speed, didn't lag.

How is it not an OS if it's running off of Dosbox? The PSP meets the minimum requirements for Windows 98, it seems like the only thing stopping it from running Windows XP is a lack of RAM. It's not like the OSes themselves demand too much in terms of video card unless you absolutely NEED desktop effects.

MetroidJunkie2007, PSP could not run Windows 98, You would have to strip it down and edit the Os in order for it to run on PsP, just loading over an Iso and installing it won't work even if it meets req. because it won't support the controls because lack of drivers, won't support the display because of lack of drivers...

, I'm not sure but I don't think it supports that resolution, and it won't know what the hell the CPU is. When the Intel Atom CPU came out Ubuntu needed to design new kernals for it so the Os knew how to handle the CPU, well the PSP comes with the Sony CXD2962GG CPU which Microsoft never released supportive Kernels for Windows 98 or any Windows for that matter to my knowledge. So getting Windows 98 to work is impossible.

there are 16GB and 32GB flash drives, but there aren't any 16GB sticks of ram. That's either a bad fake, or it was advertised as 16Gb, because GB stands for Gigabyte, and Gb stands for Gigabit. It's the same trick that Internet Service Providers use. 16Gb = 2GB. There are 2GB sticks of ram, but I wouldn't use them, because they are high density, which means they probably won't work on most computers.

Ubuntu is to big to run on a PSP with the memory included, so this is probabley fake. But there are *VERY* small versions of Linux you can put on a PSP such as Damn Small Linux, Siltaz Linux, and Basic Linux. Windows 3.1 might work, i dont know the size.

the ways to get around this would be to run it off a gig memory card, which i've used as a live usb while putting the psp in usb mode. but as far as running ubuntu itself, no way, the hardware requirements are below the psp's power. As for DSL, that wouldn't be the best solution either. It'd be better to make a custom one and use the internal drives to run the critical parts, while storing most of it on a memory stick. Of course, that would basically be custom firmware based off linux.

This isn't HTML. It's LUA, another programming language you can use on the PSP but it can be launched via XMB. Though it's not the real thing it does look impressive.

And the PS3 has more then enough power to run Vista the problem is the PS3s processor is PPC and most OS's don't support that other then the older Mac OS and some distros of Linux.

I should have copied my other post... the PSP has a 333Mh processor, it has more than enough power to run Windows 95, 98, 98SE, Ubuntu, and a lot of older OS, what it doesn't have is the internal memory, so a little ingenuity and some more memory... runs bette than my old computer at 266Mh with 98SE.

Well, actaully the PS3 has 7 3.2GHz processors... it outperforms almost every PC in the mainstream market, I don't think it would have a problem with Ubuntu ;) That's why the PS3 is technologically better than Xbox360 regardless of opinion... sure the 360 also runs at 3.2GHz, but it only has 3 symmetrical processors... more power is more power... nevermind PS3's Blu-Ray, backwards compatibility, 7 controllers, built in hard drive, etc...

It's not "slow" like sluggish with the PS3. The PS3 just doesn't have that much Ram. So running multiple apps will slow it down. But regardless of that, the PS3 is really powerful for it's price.
