  • Richie has been playing that head since the mid 1970's at least. Everyone knows it's the Cherokee changes. No big deal. Tune named in honor of Harold's Rogue and Jar in DC - a basement joint just off DuPont Circle back in the day. Richie was a regular weekend headliner there. Great room. Close quarters. Low ceiling. Quality of mixology at the bar - questionable. How the hell they got Don Patterson's Hammond in and out of that place I'll never know.

  • Very good playing by band and soloists.

HOWEVER, this is not Harolds house of Jazz. -not in my book anyway. this is Cherokee adapted to play Harolds as a head. Listen to coles solo and you hear him play around cherokee. the band are constantly playing cherokee riffs. and the cherokee theme is everywhere. I hear them singing harold but hear 'Sweet indian maiden'

House of jazz should not be played faster than 225bpm (Eddie jefferson sung it at 220 I think -just right)

  • 2. When its played slower the song becomes more lyrical and the chords more easily to manage as a solo piece. You can actually play some really nice chord subs. - Its not just a thrash but a beautifull song. (music wise not lyric wise)

Look I'll do my own version of this when I get the time and you can judge for yourself.
