I am a dairy farmer and I believe there is wrong and right in every business. I agree that if a cow is not happy she will not give much, The 260 milk cows I manage give on average a day 97 lbs of milk a day with and average Somatic Cell count of 90k this is all possible through A.I. it is like having every women bred with Bill Gates or Michael Jordan, Also fed a high energy ration similar to all of us eating like Michael Phelps's 14,000 calories. Cows could be happier but so could Humans

Just because you don't see something doesn't mean that it doesn't happen. Peta is not the only animal rights activist group out there defending and exposing the truth of the treatment of animals. There is nothing wrong with defending animals and it need not be at the expense of humans. There is enough to go around and its not for someone else to dictate where your passions lie. I'd ask Peta to buy me a farm and some cows if they want the cows to be happy. I'd treat the cows and the calves nicely. I'd buy the feed for the cows milk them and feed some milk to the calves and sell some milk to pay for the feed for the cows and to feed myself and my family. Not all the cow are like that, even. I would'nt call it false advertising.. only 'selective'. North of San Fran are gorgeous, rolling, green hills/cow pastures that are justified by the commercials. Anything but a pigsty.

Yeah, but those pastures barely have any cows. They have massive, luxurious hills. I don't think even 10% of Californian cows get that life. I don't mind slaughtering. OK, three months late, but I live north of San Francisco and can tell you that there are several dairies with hundreds of cows in those gorgeous rolling green pastures. Some of the areas seem 'devoid' of cows because most of the rest of them are filled with herds of beef steers, not dairy cows. Around the dairies the cows are, in some cases, allowed free-roam to graze, which is why you don't see them close to the highways - they are out grazing! :)
