What's with rockstar killing off the main character at the end?First John marston, then cole phelps, and now are they planning to kill off the main protagonist of gta 5 at the end?
Awe, i was hoping you had the epilogue after the credits of the game. There was one more scene after the credits to showed who idea it really was to sell the morphine on the streets of LA.
I for one don't believe that Phelps didn't actually die. As you might of seen while you played the game, he was shot many times. I refuse to believe a good man like him would die for someone who didn't even like him. I believe Phelps is alive.
There's a littly tiny step to far in the Rockstar games that the Story Ends up with the death of the charecters you start connect with, that's the only thing I don't like about those games, I have L.A Noire and I have Red Dead Redemption, I was near to crying when I've watched the endings of both.. Red Dead Redemption : John Marston Dies
L.A Noire : Cole Phelps Dies
Gta IV : Roman/Niko's GF but this time is not the charecter you play with, that makes me less sad with endings.
@Viperr101 u do know this is a video game and my uncle works for tue company that made this game and he told me that cole phelps isn't dead he has plastic surgery that changes how he looks so nobody knows his identity and he goes undercover it's gonna be awesome
This was the first game I played on ps3 and it's such atticted game as well! Gotta be the amazing game i've ever played. And was so sad when he died never should of happen. I would defo recon mend you play it and i for sure will play it again some day :)
Amazing ending, didn't want Cole to die after everything, but I loved how he sacrificed himself for the others, I love how Cole says "Goodbye." His voice changes and it's really sad. Overall, epic ending.
Can someone give me a legitimate reason as to why you thought the ending of this sucked? I personally felt both sad and angry about the fact that after all Cole worked to undercover, he died, only to be remembered as a cop who did his job. It was an unexpected ending which encased the games inner makings and brought it to a steady halt, but it actually made me feel emotional about what happened, something many game endings just can't do. More games should follow its lead.
i remember when i first beat LA Noire, i'm so sad cole died, i have to admit i did like his final words "good bye..." although...i don't understand how roy got away, i mean his name was on the list...there was evidence! a paper trail back to him! even though i hated the way it ended it did exercise the fact life is unfair and the good guy doesn't always win. i loved la noire...
first we had Roman/Kate in GTA IV then in RDR John marston dies then cole dies i bet max paynes gonna die and the guy in gta 5 (whoever it is) is gonna die
@deerini ok, so i was wrong, this doesnt mean you have to call me a retard, sir, show some respect and answer nicely, not with retard, bitch or stuff like that, have a nice day!
i liked the ending in a way but the thing is rockstar should make a gamme where the main character doesnt die. go and play rdr. john marston dies in the end. i swear rockstar, if u ever do this to gta 5..........IMMA KILL ALL YOU BITCHES1
I wasn't exspecting a goody goody ending tbh. but I wasn't expecting a ending where cole was in a casket at the end getting shitted on by roy either and wtf is up with making me use kelso in the end..oh well
It's was so sad when he's died at the end because it's was also the end of the summer for me, the end of all.I bought this game in the beginning of July and i play it during all the summer. I know it's stupid but why Rockstar always kills their heroes ?

@IsRockThe I was playing it too and sold it Monday, I just couldn't get past how slow the game felt, the controls were very weird as well. Story telling and graphics are great but thats it imo, I beat Mafia 2 just before I got this and enjoyed it MUCH more even if it has its share of problems. Try that game.
I never cried so much like that over a game, i felt like i actually knew the charecter with the great graphics and details of there face animation, emotions, and how they react the enviorment around them,i hope they make another game like this again real soon.
hold on, how did cole die and jack didnt? was it the explosion? jack was a lot closer to the explosion than cole, and if cole was killed in the explosion, how was elsa not hurt? i mean, at least give her a scar. and why did they only bring up cole's being wounded now? how on earth did he get out of that cave? why was roy, who hated cole, giving cole's eulogy and not one of his actual buddy partners like kabowski or galloweigh? i love this game, i do, but the ending raises so many questions
@Ace4929 there was no explosion, cole lifted elsa and jack out of the drain, then if overflowed and most likely killed him. They didn't mention him being wounded, cole says "your wounded jack, let me help" and The bad cops made the eulogy because they are higher rank and they are required to.
@Stan844 well, hold on a second, jack shot the guy with the flamethrower, and that, based on all of the war movies that i have seen, creates an explosion. and if cole had the energy to lift two people out of a sewer, hows come he couldnt lift himself out, or how come the other two didnt help him. also, i was refering to the flashback when talking about cole's injury - he was shot and unconcious in a burning japanese tunnel in the middle of nowhere
@Ace4929 Jack didn't shoot the flamethrower, he just shot the guy. And cole was shot by courtney sheldon in the flashback, and taken to a medic. Also, Biggs helped Jack and Elsa out of the tunnel aswell, but it was too late for cole.
@Stan844 it is highly likely that the bullet would have gone straight through him, rupturing the fuel tank, triggiring the explosion, and if cole was that tired that he couldnt get out of the tunnel, then why didnt he get out first?
I personally didn't enjoy the game. It was very repetitive and I didn't get to know the characters well enough to feel any emotion for them. Good Idea but executed wrong in my opinion. Thankfully this video saves me time and effort.
Unlike most games I actually was sad by the ending of this and felt a connection to the characters. Overall it was a great game and hopefully there will be another game similar someday
Funny how in RDR the main character died, and you played as Jack... In LA Noire, the main character dies, and you play as Jack... Rockstar, pick better names or something...
Playing as Jack ruined the whole game. It just doesn't make sense.
You play through the whole game as Cole, then all of a sudden, in the LAST missions you play as another character. Then they expect you to feel sorry for Phelps that he died.
Very disappointing ending. Could have been much better.
Thanks for spoiling the ending for me you friggin idiot!!! PS- that's sarcasm i haven't played the game yet and intend to but now i can't because the friggin ending is friggin ruined for me >:(
@llort8558 Obvious fake troll. 1. The video was called an Ending. 2. It is obviously sarcasm your comment, sherlock. The game won't be ruined. That is number 3.

The ending speech from Roy Earl just goes to show how fucking currupt and twisted the Judicial System is in the world. Really sad story. Loved the game!
why don't you open your eyes to see a greater meaning of Cole's death..???? He sacrifised himself so that Jack(who was NOT his friend) and Elsa(of course) could live...so stop posting that it wasn't a good ending...it was AWESOME..so as the game...For me it's between the 3 best games to be published all those years... <3 !!!
Could have been better paced towards the end, also Phelps should have snapped and finally just shot Earle in the fucking face. They pulled some Hideo Kojima tactic with the switch in characters at the end.
But good ending. I liked the allusions to Frankenstein by Shelly both Phelps and Fontaine created Ira, their monster, so it was cool when Phelps sacrificed his life as a form of redemption for what he had done. They should have let us play as Phelps until his death with his sewer baptism.
Man i hate sad endings... If i whant 1 of those i just look at real life.. Games are suposed to leave me feeling good somehow not sad. In other wods bad ending and ruined the entire game for me. Of course this is my opinion and people are free to feel diferently.
I personally like Jack. His character differs from Cole's, but they both were in the war and have great experience in combat and investigation abilities.
If they were ever to make a sequel, which I very much hope they do, I want to play as Jack and this time expose the corruption.
@JD4Trojhans If you watched the newspaper stories it gave you enough backstory to appreciate the surprise of finally playing as Jack. Besides, when you look at everything Cole was an asshole in the military. Jack was always a braver more honest man, but Cole was more by-the-book and kissed the higher ups asses. He made a lot of mistakes, the biggest of all being his unnecessary attention to detail which caused the painful deaths of many civilians, rather than just trapping them.
I think that people who thought the ending was shit completely missed the point. Have any of you ever seen a film noir? Look it up.It may be a video game, but its a game of that genre. The point of the whole game (and films/books) of this nature is not happy endings as such. This was about corruption, and it was sad he died, but that was the point.
@Lyriicistique Completely agree with you. I finished it about an hour ago and I was confused a little so I searched here and there. A lot of people are saying that the end sucked because they don't get it
@capsule56 Phelps led alot of men to their death by blindly leading men by the book. Too much of anything is a bad thing, and created a company of corrupted men who would not make the mistakes Phelps did. Phelps was obsessed with making LA a better place because of the guilt he felt from the war, so he had to repay that debt, and by doing so, he saved a man who tried to 'put him down' and the woman he loved, to insure his death would indeed make LA a better place.
i actually don't think this is a bad ending, everyone here is saying that the ending sucks just cause the main character dies. It shows that during the 1940's many people were really corrupted and there were hardly good people. And i like how cole died just like that being flushed by the current of the water instead of many unrealistic movie and games nowadays where the character dies epicly.I like the realism.
K so everybody does eventually. But goin like that is just sad. However, did they actually collect the body? Just wondering, I know there was a coffin
I was really hoping that Jack would say something at the funeral. That he would fuck shit up. But no... God damn it, Cole didn't change anything in that city. FUCK
It ended like it should have, playing as kelso in the final part made me realize that he was the good guy, while phelps sacrificed himself as to find a way to redemption , unfortunately the corrupted bastards of the story probably got away with it, anyway great game, hope to see a sequel.
I just finished the last mission. This LA Noire was a masterpiece for many reasons, but I think mostly because the protagonist was not the usual hero who never misses anything. The story of Cole Phelps, a detective determined and capable, but still a human being with all its faults. Goodbye Cole, we miss you :-(
one question... Why the HELL did Earle give the eulogy?

why don't you open your eyes to see a greater meaning of Cole's death..????

Fuck people who dislike the ending. Not going to say "go play Modern Warfare 3", its to obvious you're doing it already.

Terrible, terrible ending to a terrible game.
Heavy Rain was better. At least Heavy Rain gave you the option of a happy ending.

People compare Mario with Halo, which is a better game series, but in the end they are different aren't they?

I love this game but red dead redemption was better

Man i hate sad endings... If i whant 1 of those i just look at real life.. Games are suposed to leave me feeling good somehow not sad. In other wods bad ending and ruined the entire game for me. Of course this is my opinion and people are free to feel diferently.

I personally like Jack. His character differs from Cole's, but they both were in the war and have great experience in combat and investigation abilities.
If they were ever to make a sequel, which I very much hope they do, I want to play as Jack and this time expose the corruption.
mywifesafag 2 months ago
Guess there's no sequel now then. Don't really like Kelso as much.

Good game until the end. Cole's death was too sudden. Playing as Jack at the end was a mistake.

@JD4Trojhans Reminds me of Red Dead Redemption
m14g 2 months ago
@JD4Trojhans If you watched the newspaper stories it gave you enough backstory to appreciate the surprise of finally playing as Jack. Besides, when you look at everything Cole was an asshole in the military. Jack was always a braver more honest man, but Cole was more by-the-book and kissed the higher ups asses. He made a lot of mistakes, the biggest of all being his unnecessary attention to detail which caused the painful deaths of many civilians, rather than just trapping them.

@MrPlayLol i was thinking this as well. not every game and film has to ahve an american fairytale ending

What a sad ending.I was expecting to kill that muthafucka Roy Earle and all those corrupted assholes, instead of this, Phelp's dead.
Hope Rockstar will release soon a L;A Noire 2 where we can eliminate those bastard!

A lot of people are saying that the end sucked because they don't get it
aspasiz 2 months ago
@Lyriicistique people have gotten to used to happy endings i guess

@crazyjunkey98 true, i agree with you on that. happy endings are so common its not even funny. need to see more things are "gritty" lol.

@Lyriicistique I understood the point, but I still thought it was a shit ending.
