  • winnipeg says...take it off

  • This whole album, "The Mask", is just awesome! It is a rare and hard-to-find album today, features "You're So Remote", and "Hip Level" Some awesome bass work from the Glover, and some of the most interesting and sincere lyrics, by the way! This album is a great piece of art!

  • This was Steve Irwin's inspiration.

  • Summer of '84. I was 17 years old and thought it was the coolest song ever when I first heard it. I especially liked the prolonged jam at the end of the original version. Wish I could buy it somewhere.

  • @livininomaha

I was just down the road @livininlincoln & thought the same thing - had the cassette

  • This song is great!!!

  • AWESOME AWESOME AWESOME !!! I wish this had received more airplay back in the day. I remember hearing this once maybe twice on the radio, loving it and then forgetting it because I never heard it again until now - CONGRATULATIONS Mr. Lippman on a GREAT video and RG on a coooool tune !!!!

  • Dude sees his own reflection, but this time...he's got the mask!

  • Dude's standing naked by the swimming pool but this time, he's got the mask!

  • Sounds and arrangements : Peter Gabriel. A Good song.

  • Thanks for uploading this song! I had the lp like 25 years ago! Please can you upload more of this record? I remember "Getting Stranger", "Fake it". It was an unusual thing back then since Glover has always been into hard rock (Purple, Rainbow and he also produced albums for Nazareth and Judas) but a real good stuff there!

  • Today - out of the blue - I started humming The Mask.

Buried for 27 years somewhere in my head.

    There it was.

  • this sounds pure 80's!! more like the box ..long live the 80's and deep purple

  • I so love this song,,,am having a problem finding a copy of it...any help is appreciated

  • I always loved this song, mostly because of the great melody and Roger´s incredible voice.

But the lyrics absolutely suck big time. "I see my own reflection, but this time, I got the mask" must be one of the worst lines of the decade.

  • Why can I not find a copy of this ...I love the video and song!

  • Took me years to figure out who did this song. I used to think the chorus was saying something else. Not sure how I found it, but I am happy I did. Like others, I was shocked to find out it was Roger Glover. Wish he would do more like this.

  • Thanks so much for posting this! I've been looking for this song for several years now. Thanks again!

  • Thanks for posting. I've been trying to find this for awhile.

  • It looks like Ben Stiller at 0:40

  • thanks for posting. brings back memories.

  • Just recently bought this on vinyl, after a long search! Love the album! Between being the bassist for Deep Purple for the last 40 years, and putting together the Butterfly Ball, Mask, and producing albums from bands like Pretty Maids....this guy is a major influence on the world of hard rock!

  • I love Deep Purple..and this is so different music!!!

Very Peter Gabriel or Genesis. Not my style of music, but very good ...

Man, Roger is a great artist: bass player, singer, producer, composer....!!!

  • When I was a wee lad, my new neighbor, A. Leesman, who was a young adult and my role model blasted this song a few times one day on his really loud Hi-Fi system. I digged the music and the occasion even though it was not really what I was into at the time. He also introduced me to Alan Parsons Project and Asia.

  • I met Roger Glover back in 85 backstage on the "Perfect Strangers" tour. I told him I dug the video and he was so happy he grabbed my hand and kissed it. :)

  • Yikes! He should'a hired a singer...

  • Un grande Roger Plant, ademas de tocar tan bien la guitarra hace musica de buen gusto.

  • Wow, what a great song from an incredible album. Always surprises me how good Glover's solo albums were. He should do more.

  • Great LP. Bought it new. Still have it. Vinyl. Digital can't touch it.

  • I love 1984 (I was 13 years old then)!

  • Hihihi dan ben je een iets latere jaargang dan ik. Maar je hebt gelijk, 1984 was een super, een geweldig jaar !

  • I was24!

  • thankyouthankyouthankyouthankyou for uploading this. You have no idea how long I've been searching for this video.

  • I second that. It's been a quarter of a century since I've seen it last!

  • Me too, kingofgrief! :)

  • Who is the singer?

  • The singer is Roger!

  • And Jon Lord said Roger can't sing.^^

  • Did you know...at one concert in the early 70's..Ian Gillan was ill and Roger Glover took over on vocals..I'd love to hear that...wouldn't you?

  • @midnighttilldawn

That's what I mean. When Roger took over the vocals, Jon Lord said Roger can't sing!^^

Of course I want to listen to it!!!

  • @midnighttilldawn

That's what I mean. As roger took over the vocals, Jon said he can't sing!^^

Of course I want to listen to it!

  • Deep Purple's bass player Roger Glover

  • I never knew Glover put out this song. I absolutely LOVE this song, chorus, energy!!! It sounds like something that would have been perfectly suited for Gillan/Glover Accidentally on Purpose

  • Man, I LOVE this song!!! Thank you for posting this...

  • Brilliant song, last time I heard the Mask was in 1984, is this the orgional version?

  • Super Ohrwurn!!!

  • Hooray! I love this song. One of the deep-down strangest lyrics ever written.

  • Finally!!! I have been looking for this song forever, I was starting to think it did not exist. Thanks original poster!!!!!!

  • I sound like a broken record for all the other comments, but I kept the lp single of this longer than I could keep a working turntable. I finally had to get rid if the LP, but I hoped one day someone would upload this. Great lyrics, beat, spirit. my quest is over and I can now put the mask on whenever the mood takes me. Thanks!

  • @Vmartyr ..Marty, what was the album?

I want this song for my ipod

  • I estimate I last heard this song July '84 and I have looked for it so often on you tube that I gave up last fall. Thanks for posting.

  • Yes, this has been a video QUEST!!!!!

  • Thank you, thank you, thank you. I also have not seen this since I was in college in '84. Great song, and I could never find it!

  • THANK YOU!

  • waaaaaaaaaa

interesante video del master on the bass guitar!

    Roger Rocks

  • I remember listening to this on the cassette tape in August 1984 all the way from Massachusetts to check in to my new duty station in New Orleans, Louisiana. It was a great song for the time!

  • Duran Duran influence is unmistakable, with hints of Donny Iris and Peter Gabriel.

  • Which is amazing considering Roger Glover is from Deep Purple. Who said that metalheads can only play metal? :)

  • God, I love this song.... thanks for posting it!

  • I still have this record! I haven't seen this video since it was released. I loved this song back in the day.

  • For folks that are trying to find this on disk, check Amazon, search for Mask by Roger Glover, there is are a few copies of the import avail there.

  • This song blew me away the first time I heard it (It was on 'Friday Night Videos'). The vocals in the verses have a very unusual sound, I thought. I never understood why this didn't become a real hit.

  • Glad to see this vid too but lets see how long it stays up before some "Mother Fucking" music corp. pulls the plug? JMAN

  • I've been looking for this song on YouTube for years! Thanks for sharing.

  • It never ends with the treasures in the Purple family that continue to surface on the internet, in this case thanks to Peter himself, it doesn't get any better than providence from someone actually involved in the making. I've been keeping an eye out for this since Youtube went up.

    Right on!

  • One of the coolest guys in Purple. Always good to the fans. I use to have this album, would like to have it again!

  • that fire guy is cute. the one with the spear. awesome vid..

It's one of my favourites, love the storyline that follows the song, you need to really listen and watch to appreciate the work and talent within this very well done music video.

    Tom
