Too bad the ventilation holes are on the bottom. My MSI cx600 has vent on its side :D I see you solved that issue from the start that's cool. All in all I must say I'm going to Malaysia! I was dreaming for a netbook myself but I finally chose a bit more cpu

Yes it should do fine but the keyboard is a little small to type on if you have long word documents to do. You can always connect a USB keyboard though. I like my acer a lot and it's a perfect travel computer. put win7 on it and it works even better.

I read that you can't change backgrounds in starter and that you're stuck with the default theme. Can you at least turn some sounds off (use a silent sound scheme)?

true! in starter you can ONLY use the default background (only one!) and I didn't play around with the sounds long enough to be able to answer that question lol I dumped starter within hours of owning the machine..it was THAT annoying. xp would have been better in fact xp over starter IS better! so do the upgrade you'll get a kick out6 of it! oh and if you do it through windows download/ remember to KEEP THE ACTIVATION CODE! because you can use use it over and over again! :)

honestly, the keyboard isn't comfortable to type for extended periods of time as the keys are quite small. But this is a very portable netbook which I use for traveling. It is okay for typing out a quick blog post or email but I wouldn't use it as a college computer to do multiple typed docs definitely!

If I were you, I would have bought the 1005ha (asus) due to the smaller 6 cell battery which doesnt stick as much as the acer d250 out in the back. + I heard bad rumors that the keys are quite small and its hard to type compared to 1005ha. Also, the 1005ha looks much slimmer and the only thing thats good about the acer d250 is the screen resolution which is 1280x720 that is much better than a typical 1280x600 standard netbook

I have had it for about 3 months now and everything's great. I have windows 7 on it and it's much better than XP (all problems with sleep-resume and wifi reconnecting gone!). Over here, they are now sold with 3 year warranties. Acer is confident! Sadly however, they now only come with the crappy windows 7 STARTER edition.

i just got this yesterday and i think it is so cool. i love the colour and the design and it is so awesome. i got it for $600 singapore dollars. With a 1Gig ram running on window XP. i think the 6 cell battery is fine. OVerall it is still light and i dont think the battery sticking out is ugly all. most importantly it is long lasting

So I have uninstalled Win 7 Enterprise (trial RTM version) from it. Win 7 ran very well, no crashes or anything. I restored win xp because I was getting about an hour less battery life (5 instead of 6) with win7 and since batt life is very important to me, I chose to reinstall WinXP. However, I can safely say that Win 7 runs fine on this thing even with just 1gig of ram.

here's an update. The Hitachi hard drive is kinda noisy (for a netbook drive). It emits a mechanical click or tick every fraction of a second. tinck...tinck... tinck... which can drive one a bit mad if you're easily bothered by such odd noises, esp in a quiet room, library or office. The fan's whirring is rather loud at full speed but the hard disk ticking is much more annoying. Other than that, this netbook has been great!

another update. I now have Windows 7 enterprise (trial) on it and it flies! I'm loving it and can highly recommend this model. However, be aware that Acer's netbooks sometimes come with very noisy fans! My nephew's 751 has a noisy fan which drives me mad but doesn't bother him. (his 751 runs win7 painfully slow). However, I notice that battery life is shorter with win7, by about 1 hour (5 instead of 6 with winXP).

Thanks for the comments. Disappointing to hear that the batt lasts 3 hours tops with wifi but it could have been worse had I bought it a few months earlier with the 3 cell (which is no longer offered apparently). Not much buying power in our Malaysian Ringgits, RM1399 or about USD420+ ("so unfair", as you said :P) That's about a month's salary for many here so our gadgets are extra precious. :D

You could probably buy all those free stuff for less than USD20 over there.

I bought this to take traveling. I have a 4715 if I need more juice. I don't really like the "springy" keyboard, a bit too much resistance to the tap. Other than that, really liking it.
