You know what works? Remove your CMOS battery overnight. You will need to reset some settings if you customized your BIOS any but most folks just take the defaults or optimized anyway.

Also, the DEBUG tool is a 16- BIT TOOL. If you attempt this on a 64-bit machine, it will not work. You will receive the "not recognized command" error. Also, I believe it has been removed completely from Windows 7.

@Davidmroanejr i can confirm it's in the 32-bit on. You also might try navigating to your wow64 directory. It contains 32-bit binaries. PS debug in windows and xp is 32-bit. This can be confirmed by the fact it's in the system32 folder. Yes in dos, it was a 16-bit app, but so was everything else. All the command tools have been rewritten to not only run in 32-bits, but to actually use windows system calls.

actually if you're just dealing with a windows password you might wanna try burning ophcrack and booting your computer off of it. it will actually recover the passwords and you wont have to format your computer.

There are usually 2 BIOS passwords you can set on any system. One to allow you to change BIOS settings and another password to prevent boot up without password. This will ONLY work for the password to change BIOS settings. Will NOT work for start up password because you would be unable to boot any OS whatsoever.

Remove the battery 14Trep. And make sure it is unplugged as well. This applies to most PC's. To remove the BIOS pass, simply remove the CMOS battery, AND make sure the rig is unplugged to, else it won't reset. Leave battery out for at least five mins.

@bigwang45feet I have a few on discs. See my problem was a laptop I was given had a system password that no one knew. So it was totally locked out from booting. Right after the POST screen it would prompt for a password. You couldn't boot to anything (that's the purpose of the system password, obviously).

So true, ophcrack would probably work as long as the system password wasn't the issue. I personally have many other programs that do the same thing so I never used ophcrack.

In most desktops, removing the CMOS battery is super easy. Laptops (obviously) not so much. In this Dell laptop the battery was on top meaning you would have to completely disassemble it to get to the battery. But there's actually no point with this laptop, BIOS information is on an EEPROM chip which is non volatile (meaning removing the battery won't erase the password).
