hey truthslayer, i know u have your own views and all, but i cant stop thinking what someone pointed somthing out that i think the booking was a little too over the line..
im kinda glad cena won, maybe in 2005 when on smackdown he may have more fans on their feets for him but not 2008 in my opinion..
anyway, what was over the line was that..
he did not qualify for the rumble like the other superstars on raw/smackdown!/ecw
what the fuck!!!!! hogan destroyed wcw with his ego and politics. cena rakes the wwe in money. as for the rumble match, it was arguably the best technically. meltzer rated it 4 1/4 stars, yeah its the worst ever!
He doesn't necessarily rake in the money. The main reason they're making money now is because there's no real competition standing up against them. Quite frankly, the 08 rumble was boring and had a lazy quick way out ending. If you want to see a good rumble, look up pretty much any of them between 1996 and 2001, plus 1993. Ever since then, they've not been up to scratch.
i saw half of those rumbles i only say 1993 & 2001 22008 was a good rumble people hate it only if cena came back but if politics HHH one u guys would be happy and saying the best rumble =] lmao
Tbh if they saved Jericho's return to the Rumble, Jericho would have gotten the same, probably better pop.
It was pretty average overall, I was so pissed off about Punk's elimination, I felt sure he'd stay until the last few. The crowd love him and I wish WWE would realise that.
cena didnt win hornswoggle dodnt go over top rope its a rule and hornswoggle didnt go over top rope so does this mean hornswoggle has a contender spot or is the rumble still going on?
Shelton Benjamin's almost immediate exit was a perfect example of how overconfidence can lead to your downfall, i think wwe did it very well, but then thats just me.
I also wish that the people that boo Cena would wake the fuck up and realize that by giving him a reaction, you are still making him over. Whenever a person gets a reaction from the crowd, whether it's a boo or a cheer, it shows that the fans give a damn about a wrestler enough to react to them. I really think that they boo because it's the cool thing to do and that they think it's going to affect him when it does nothing but make him even more over.
i sure hope he does...cant wait for his smackdown gimmick to return..he's gimmick now is not special at all, just a "fighting, respting wrestler" or so it would seem..
Great review as always Josh and I am with you about Coach and Michael Cole, those two are horrible but then again, Coach is a horrible commentator to begin with.
Whoever said Triple H winning would of been predictable I agree. It would be just too obvious. I am glad WWE did something shocking after so long. I also agree with you on the booking staff, they really need to improve.
Some of you guys make points about both Cena and Triple H and a lot of you come off as immature fanboys. You guys wanna call him Superman? Perhaps maybe you guys should of called Triple H that too when he had his long title reign. Or Hogan when he was going through guys left and right. However, since it's Cena, he gets all the bashing, fucking hypocritical. I am not a huge fan of his by any means but this hatred is getting ridiculous.
Some of you guys need to stop with the blind hatred for Cena and not pointing out the over-pushing that Triple H was getting in his years. It's funny that some say they would rather have Triple H win the Royal Rumble? For what? So we can deal with yet another long predictable winning streak and have him put in every main event scene again? But since it's Cena, the Royal Rumble was horrible to some of you guys.
The pop came from a select few but very vocal portion of the MSG crowd, the usual women and children who popped much louder than usual because of the element of surprise here. YOU need to face reality in that it took all but 30 seconds for the boos to start, and the next night on RAW Cena got booed to the point of tears in what was supposed to be his triumphant return. Yes this was Vince saying fuck you to the fans, and it is just the beginning of another year of relentless Cena-propoganda.
I agree with a lot of what you said. I do believe the Jericho/JBL fued is weak and pointless to begin with, and DQ on a PPV doesn't help. I must say it was good to hear the MSG faithful get on the overrated Mysterio who should be treated like that more often. Finally, while it would have been way too predictable for HHH to win, you are wrong on Cena. The
guys like hardy bust their ass for a bullshit push that was never gonna end with a title, except the meaningless inc title that used to mean something back in the day, like the tag titles. Cena sucks, the guy hasnt improved one bit in the ring, and his mic skills are borderline corny as hell, triple H can work a match and put guys over and do his jobs at least, and all the fans that dont boo triple H will hate him with a passion once he turns heel again.
I hate Cena and HHH. Both of these guys get pushed MASSIVELY. The only one I ever hear getting booed though is Cena. Also, Joey Styles is awesome. I hope he gets out of the WWE soon.
i think people went crazy when john cena came out because he was back... but since the fans reliezed he was gonna win it and be champion for another 2 fucking years thats why they started booing.
agree with most of this review. The only bit that really pissed me off in the Rumble was the fact that Hornswoggle didn't get eliminated, and Finley came to save him before the countdown. Really confused the hell out of every-one and just quite.....I dunno...ANNOYED me.
well first off i have 2 say I was @ the Rumble and I can say this. Even before the show started there were "Cena Sux" chants by about 75% of the crowd so it was deffinatlly anti-cena. Then when Cena came out the ONLY reason he got a 1 time pop. wuz cuz no one saw his return. Even spoilers were saying he wasnt suposed 2 be back till at least WM24. Thats why he was popped cuz it was a "shocking" moment and that was it. Then if u watch they booed him the rest of the night.
Why is it? Because it's not hardcore? It's not extreme?
Excuses, excuses, excuses. Try going through a 320-day road schedule with little time to rest and your body is all stressed out. THEN try to pull off the same extreme stuff they did back then.
Afterwards, we'd have the media and morons like you blaming Vince McMahon for another wrestler's death.
I guess it is true. Some people just aren't worthy of thinking for themselves.
I agree with your comments about Michael Cole and The Coach. Cole in particular has become increasingly irritating in the past few months / years. I'd like to see Joey Styles get treated with much more respect.
They're wrestling fans you moron. We don't need a superheroic hogan soldier entering the Rumble match to win and then ruin the rest of the main events.
would have liked to have seen hardy win the title then loss at no way out. when i saw HHH come ou at #29 i was thinking oh great he's gonna win but having cena come out last was pretty good (he got a huge pop and the fans standing after the match showed he got a lot of support). everyone has favourites but i wouldn't want HHH to win, he did a superman just as much as cena did and gets away with it all the time.
"everyone has favourites but i wouldn't want HHH to win, he did a superman just as much as cena did and gets away with it all the time."
THANK YOU, dips85, THANK YOU. Fans are too blind to realise this. It's not fair for Cena to play Superman, but when Trips does it, everything is okay. Please.
Im not a huge Cena fan,but im not obsessed with hating him either. Its not that bad of a thing he came back as hell add another element to whatever storyline unfolds down the road. But the superman act was a little much,he came in and cleared house in like 30 seconds. Its like they had to where he couldve caught a bullet with his teeth.other than that its not SO bad hes back. personally I was hoping kennedy would win the rumble
very true, I just mentioned Cena because alot of people probably think him comming back is the worst thing.but HHH did do the same thing which I wasnt big on him winning the rumble either.I guess id like to start some other people who are on the verge of becoming headliners get a push.Kennedy came to mind,he had a ton of momentum last year before his injury, then him being suspended.I would hope another push for him will go down somewhere down the road. Good vid by the way
I was actually expecting The Rock to come out at the 30th. I knew something wasn't quite right when HHH came out 29th. I thought 'Who on earth is left to fill the 30th entry?'. The only name I could muster up was The Rock.
Then BOOM! Cena's music kicked in and my jaw dropped. It was the last thing I expected. Great PPV!
Cena should win the title at No Way Out and Hardy should win the Elimination Chamber match.
I would love to see Cena-Hardy at WM24. I think the crowd would be somewhat in the mindset like Hogan-Rock at X7. Not necessarily in terms of superstar status, but I think some or most of the crowd would be torn on who to cheer for.
Yea And If Cena Wins The WWE Title And Jeff Wins The Chamber Then At WM24 John Cena Will Get His 1st Lost Cause Jeff Hardy Desever The Title But I Think It Was A Better Rumble If CM PUNK Won It Not Cena
I don't think that match would be that great without some kinda of crazy spots. Plus it'll never happend. I think hardy would get more support though.
..Uhhh watch the Royal Rumble before WM 22? You wanted HHH to win? At least Cena can draw. Seriously stfu. Royal Rumble 2000 and 2005 were even worse than these two. So stfu.
Just because John Cena came back, the Royal Rumble was terrible. But if HHH had won, you would say this was the greatest Royal Rumble of all time. You know you would.
Besides, I could name Royal Rumble 93, 94, 95, 96 and especially 1999 as some of the worst Rumbles. This one wasn't even close to being bad.
great review. i couldn't watch the ppv yesterday, busy with other stuff... but i read about John Cena... honestly didn't expect it at all kudos to wwe for doing something totally unexpected.
I thought orton and Hardy was great. The crowd to me seemed into it. When hardy hit the wisper in the wind and all that stuff they were going crazy. The finish out of nowhere was beautiful. I liked that you couldn't see it coming. It proved the rko to be as fast as it is deadly.
All i can do is pray that Orton beats cena. It wont happen, but god I pray it does.
Jericho and JBL got a you fucked up chang in the middle of their match. That match in my opinion was a big let down, not because of the finish but it looked as if JBL had some major ring rust in there.
Ken Kennedy should have won the rumble. Kennedy is over and up and coming. WWE needs to make more stars. Cena doesn't need to come back and win a rumble to get over. Cena is already over. Had he have been tossed out it
you actually thought that hardy was going to win it? man come on, I already knew it. but I still enjoyed the match the best match on ppv in my book. worst match for me was the jbl vs. y2j match. not so much jericho but jbl did was big boot clothesline most of the time.
Micheal Cole kept on saying former champions. who here like to be call the former champion? and he kept saying kane the former champion. no disrespect to kane. but he won the belt at 1998!
man it gets me mad when i watch smackdown and he kept saying the fomer Champion. it sad.
Are people seriously not saying they wanted THE BIG SHOW to win and not John Cena? Aren't these the same people who said he was a bad ECW champion? And they want him maineventing 'Mania?! I mean come on.
I like Paul Wight, he's a good worker and always has done his best in the business, but John Cena is a much better choice to mainevent WrestleMania.
If there was ever a time to go all markish over Cena, it was last night. If you thought he would even be there your lying! Im not a fan of the #30 winning ( 2 years in a row, I hope it doesnt become a normalcy), but it is new (Cena hasnt won the Rumble), and I doubt anyone was looking forward to HHH winning...again. So yea, see you in Florida.
I agree with most of what you say here, but I think you're making too much of the pop that Cena got. Face it, Cena's got the most exciting music in the WWE, and on top of that, no one was expecting him.
I think WWE did a really good job with the bait and switch, building up Triple H, and throwing out Cena at the last minute, completely turning around everyone's expectations of the match, but that's why everyone was cheering--because WWE pulled it off so well, and because it was an incredibly surprising moment in what would have otherwise been a predictable match, not out of some sort of appreciation for or desire to see John Cena.
So overall I'd say it was actually a very good, well constructed ending, but as far as Cena himself, other than the hype and spectacle that always comes along with him, I really don't think there's much substance, or evidence thereof.
Don't get me wrong, i'm not a Cena hater but like i said on another channel, i think WWE had a big chance to change things up and do something really fresh to start the year off and head into 'Mania with. With Hardy losing cleanly and Cena coming back to win the Rumble I have the same-old same-old feeling.
By the way I wasn't trying to say HHH should have won instead of Cena. I share your opinion of him and I actually felt the same as you half way through the match. Then when he came out he looked like superman. I mean, he eliminated Big Daddy V by himself.. usually they have everyone in the ring do that together! Then right after that he pushed over 2 people at the same time before beating down Umaga. All within 30 seconds. It stunk and i almost turned the TV off
and yeah i thought this PPV was pretty solid. not really a cena fan but i'm glad he won the rumble. i'm surprised people wanna watch Orton vs HHH, the most boring feud and matches ever.
7.25!!! What the hell TSlay, i thought out of everyone YOU wuld know this to be a great show. You must have slipped into your old ECW/RoH fan mode to judge this.
This was great. Hardy lost, Flair won CLEAN, Rumble was awesome and Jericho/JBL was a fight. All i can ask for.
Now if Jeff hardy would have won the rumble and he were the #1 contender for wrestlemania, that would have been a good wrestlemania. Just because it's a surprise doesn't make it good.
Hornswoggle being Mcmahon's son was a surprise does that make it a good storyline?
yo dude i agree with everything u said.i was really looking forward to the hardy v orton match but wwe blow it. they ended it like it would happen on raw. That was the biggest let down.the rumble its self was ok but wwe better not throw the title on cena and let him have it for a year again.
I knew that Orton was going to win. I really can't stand it it was Hardy all match then to lose when Orton when he was so over with the fans. I mean even if he lost it in a moth Hardy has had the biggest in WWE latly (next to last nights Cena apperance)
man this was a good ppv but i have some commnts about it 1st jbl when he bulldog jbl lol what a blooper and second the rumble it self hello even the entrance number were scripted lol every thing was haha imean it was nice ppv but there was to mutch how do u call it ammm acting screpting
it's not the royal rumble, it's john cena main eventing at wrestlemania for the fourth time.New yorkers are stupid. So they managed to mess up wrestlemania again. Wrong. most people think the rumble was a waste of money. thank god i didn't pay for it. And i'm not even gonna bother watching raw tonight or wrestlemania this year.
my god the first 4 matches was so boring. They where all so slow paced, the world heaveyweight title match was better than the others but so predictible.I was freaking bored as hell then the royal rumble match came then it started picking up for a great rumble though wanted cm punk to win.
i think the fans popped because its "omg, its John Cena....thats random" then once he started wrestling they booed him instantly. I think its X-Pac heat on Cena
While I am an anti-Cena person, I have to say that I marked out when Cena came out- not because it was Cena, but because of the suprise and fan reaction. To me, the fans made this ppv, because they were smart fans and not teenage girls there for cena, or little kids there with their mommies.
I'm not a huge Cena fan but that was a big surprise. Nobody saw that coming. It was probably the biggest surprise in wrestling really since the Internet days because of how quickly rumors spread and just how hard it is to keep something that big under wraps.
Coach and Cole are horrible together. It sucks because JBL and Cole were so good. Those 2 are not worse then West and Tenay tho. West almost makes it hard to watch a match in TNA, and Tenay makes you feel like your watching WCW
My only complain is Punk & Shelton not being in long enough. I kinda understand Shelton tho because him getting eliminated so quickly and booed showed the WWE how over he is.
CM Punk getting eliminated the way he did I did not like. I thought he should have been one of the final 4 and possibly even winning it. I could have seen him winning it because it seemed the WWE was starting to really plant the seeds for an Edge vs CM Punk WHC Match at Mania
i was there, and cena did get a huge pop

Quite frankly, the 08 rumble was boring and had a lazy quick way out ending. If you want to see a good rumble, look up pretty much any of them between 1996 and 2001, plus 1993. Ever since then, they've not been up to scratch.
discoder 4 years ago
i saw half of those rumbles i only say 1993 & 2001 22008 was a good rumble people hate it only if cena came back but if politics HHH one u guys would be happy and saying the best rumble =] lmao

Tbh if they saved Jericho's return to the Rumble, Jericho would have gotten the same, probably better pop.
It was pretty average overall, I was so pissed off about Punk's elimination, I felt sure he'd stay until the last few. The crowd love him and I wish WWE would realise that.

Shelton Benjamin's almost immediate exit was a perfect example of how overconfidence can lead to your downfall, i think wwe did it very well, but then thats just me.
Morcombe 4 years ago
I also wish that the people that boo Cena would wake the fuck up and realize that by giving him a reaction, you are still making him over. Whenever a person gets a reaction from the crowd, whether it's a boo or a cheer, it shows that the fans give a damn about a wrestler enough to react to them. I really think that they boo because it's the cool thing to do and that they think it's going to affect him when it does nothing but make him even more over.

GoddessOfTheDark88 4 years ago
i think coach and cole r ok just not ok
satdaacmys 4 years ago
Some of you guys make points about both Cena and Triple H and a lot of you come off as immature fanboys. You guys wanna call him Superman? Perhaps maybe you guys should of called Triple H that too when he had his long title reign. Or Hogan when he was going through guys left and right. However, since it's Cena, he gets all the bashing, fucking hypocritical. I am not a huge fan of his by any means but this hatred is getting ridiculous.
GoddessOfTheDark88 4 years ago 2
Some of you guys need to stop with the blind hatred for Cena and not pointing out the over-pushing that Triple H was getting in his years. It's funny that some say they would rather have Triple H win the Royal Rumble? For what? So we can deal with yet another long predictable winning streak and have him put in every main event scene again? But since it's Cena, the Royal Rumble was horrible to some of you guys.
GoddessOfTheDark88 4 years ago
the reason the maria went out because they wanted to calm everyone to calm down after Rey vs. edge and cena sucks triple H is awesome
lodude5 4 years ago

Cena sucks, the guy hasnt improved one bit in the ring, and his mic skills are borderline corny as hell, triple H can work a match and put guys over and do his jobs at least, and all the fans that dont boo triple H will hate him with a passion once he turns heel again.

agree with most of this review. The only bit that really pissed me off in the Rumble was the fact that Hornswoggle didn't get eliminated, and Finley came to save him before the countdown. Really confused the hell out of every-one and just quite.....I dunno...ANNOYED me.
CooperLee 4 years ago
well first off i have 2 say I was @ the Rumble and I can say this.

Excuses, excuses, excuses. Try going through a 320-day road schedule with little time to rest and your body is all stressed out. THEN try to pull off the same extreme stuff they did back then.
Afterwards, we'd have the media and morons like you blaming Vince McMahon for another wrestler's death.

would have liked to have seen hardy win the title then loss at no way out. when i saw HHH come ou at #29 i was thinking oh great he's gonna win but having cena come out last was pretty good (he got a huge pop and the fans standing after the match showed he got a lot of support). everyone has favourites but i wouldn't want HHH to win, he did a superman just as much as cena did and gets away with it all the time.

It wont happen, but god I pray it does.
thepapax04 4 years ago
Jericho and JBL got a you fucked up chang in the middle of their match. That match in my opinion was a big let down, not because of the finish but it looked as if JBL had some major ring rust in there.

Ken Kennedy should have won the rumble. Kennedy is over and up and coming. WWE needs to make more stars. Cena doesn't need to come back and win a rumble to get over. Cena is already over. Had he have been tossed out it

I agree with most of what you say here, but I think you're making too much of the pop that Cena got. Face it, Cena's got the most exciting music in the WWE, and on top of that, no one was expecting him.
TheTatterdemalion2 4 years ago
I was there, and I have to say, I really think it was more out of surprise than anything else.
TheTatterdemalion2 4 years ago
I think WWE did a really good job with the bait and switch, building up Triple H, and throwing out Cena at the last minute, completely turning around everyone's expectations of the match, but that's why everyone was cheering--because WWE pulled it off so well, and because it was an incredibly surprising moment in what would have otherwise been a predictable match, not out of some sort of appreciation for or desire to see John Cena.
TheTatterdemalion2 4 years ago
So overall I'd say it was actually a very good, well constructed ending, but as far as Cena himself, other than the hype and spectacle that always comes along with him, I really don't think there's much substance, or evidence thereof.
TheTatterdemalion2 4 years ago
Don't get me wrong, i'm not a Cena hater but like i said on another channel, i think WWE had a big chance to change things up and do something really fresh to start the year off and head into 'Mania with. With Hardy losing cleanly and Cena coming back to win the Rumble I have the same-old same-old feeling.
Cyb1986 4 years ago
That is true but would it have been any diffrent if HHH won
TSlay1974 4 years ago
No it wouldn't.
It stunk and i almost turned the TV off
Cyb1986 4 years ago

While I am an anti-Cena person, I have to say that I marked out when Cena came out- not because it was Cena, but because of the suprise and fan reaction. To me, the fans made this ppv, because they were smart fans and not teenage girls there for cena, or little kids there with their mommies.
Shanathan7 4 years ago
I'm not a huge Cena fan but that was a big surprise. Nobody saw that coming. It was probably the biggest surprise in wrestling really since the Internet days because of how quickly rumors spread and just how hard it is to keep something that big under wraps.
Coach and Cole are horrible together. It sucks because JBL and Cole were so good. Those 2 are not worse then West and Tenay tho. West almost makes it hard to watch a match in TNA, and Tenay makes you feel like your watching WCW
DonEnriquo 4 years ago
My only complain is Punk & Shelton not being in long enough. I kinda understand Shelton tho because him getting eliminated so quickly and booed showed the WWE how over he is.
CM Punk getting eliminated the way he did I did not like. I thought he should have been one of the final 4 and possibly even winning it. I could have seen him winning it because it seemed the WWE was starting to really plant the seeds for an Edge vs CM Punk WHC Match at Mania
