  • Can anyone tell me where the last picture in the slideshow is from?

  • i was grown on dis and im blck british lovin dis song ,means a hell of lot 2 me,respect sue, paul love ya ta bits

  • come to hamburg and learn what love is... we love the dubliners and the most luke kelly

  • I have never been in Derry, but this song brings a tear to my eye when I am listening it. When it touches the heart of someone who has never been in Derry or in Ireland, you know it is something special and this song has a soul and this is much more than a song. Greetings from Serbian girl who adores Ireland.

  • iam dutch, i love this song and my family comes from Canada, but if you look deeper they are from Ireland

  • great song, great voice... but what is with the whistle? its aweful... some notes are chronic. my musical ear maybe!

  • rite , im off to join the RA , whos coming with me? :D

  • @mervue16 well we would , but the ra on ceasefire ;) soo we gotta wait :) until gerry and marty deliver :0 if not then ,well we might have 2 :) make things happen faster :)

  • How much it seems the world of men has grown dim. Seems there are so few men like Luke Kelly today. Men who would dare to be true to themselves, and perhaps something more than themselves. God love and keep you Mr. Kelly, until I raise a glass with you.

  • im 16 and this is one of my favourite songs of all time, listen to it a few times everyday its amazin,.... Rest In Peace All Of The Irish Soldiers Who Died In The Troubles Trying To Save Our County's. Would Have No Pitty On The Other Shower That Were Killed, Thieves.

  • @SGorman9854688 great words my fellow youth :) we might be young but we aint without a voice or an oppinion ;)

  • @TheGlenmanusskinhead every irish voice should be heard my good man :)

  • love the song the town a love so well its brilliant :)

  • If you say so Tony. You are probably a native, I am not, although I spent some time there. I detected an anti British Army tone, so assumed Republican anthem.

  • @ Venderse. Great song if you like these Republican ones and undoubtedly great artist. I meant when he hits the high notes it gets nasal and my American ear winces. lol.

  • @PetroniusSatyricon69 Did you listen to the lyrics?? This is NOT a republican song whatsoever. Luke's voice wasn't nasal at all, but I do know what you mean. This song was recorded quite late in his life, I think he was already ill at the time, and you can hear that in his voice. Still wonderful though

  • a truly irish talented vocalist rip

  • Stream,'`It,."Now.,"

    Copy`,"&''.Paste`''

  • @ StartbahnWest Not meant to be disturbing at all, although the image of the screwdriver might have been unsavory. I meant his voice is so nasal it makes you reduce the volume. Sie sind Deutch, glaube ich.

  • I love Derry, God bless, Claire from Donegal xxx

  • I think it is the first time I have been called a troll. It's cool. I still say his voice is not so pleasant, but still a great artist.

  • @PetroniusSatyricon69 You've gotta be a bit less obvious about it!! Seriously though, Kelly was as good a singer as you'll ever hear, and far and away the best singer to come out of this country. Some of his earliest recordings are even better than later recordings such as this one, imo. If you don't like this type of music that's fair enough, but trust me there's no better exponent of Irish/folk songs than Luke Kelly

  • @tony10396861 Yes Tony Lad.. your right..Luke will remain the best Irish folk singer of all time..

  • great song, but his voice is like having a screwdriver in your ear. ouch.

  • @PetroniusSatyricon69 Troll!!!

  • @PetroniusSatyricon69

That is a pretty disturbing post.

  • @PetroniusSatyricon69 Luke kelly one of the greatest irish singers ever. I dont know how anyone could think that about his voice! Great singer great song.

  • just beautiful....

  • I may be wrong but I think the picture at 3:20 is actually Albert Clcok in Belfast.

    Otherwise good job.

    DOIRE ABU

  • @brendy02 at 3:20 its not the albert clock in belfast, it is in fact Derry's Clock in Plymouth, England!!!

  • it's derry alway's has alway's will be DERRY.

  • Luke is the master vocalist and this his signature song.... I can't hear it enough!!!

  • up the IRA

  • such a powerfull song

  • @lfcmanfan5 fact

  • as an aussie tourist i visited this town.had a few at tracys bar.asked where i culd get some accomodation&was offered a bed,meal &good company by a complete stranger.damn good town...better people!

  • I'd rather hear Luke sing this any day. I think he does the difinitive version, IMHO of course!

  • such a beautiful song

  • Oh and also Luke Kelly was a Communist, hardly makes him pro ira or british

  • @909robbie Not to get involved in all of this shite, but being pro-communist doesn't necessarily exclude one from involvement/support for republicanism. INLA for example.

  • @BlackpoolBhoy Understand what your saying, However i was more or less making a point 2 those that think that this is a secterian/pro ira song

  • @BlackpoolBhoy Understand what your saying, However this is'nt a secterian pro ira song which alot of people believe, is a song about wanting peace and how those that did'nt want it ruined it 4 the rest of the country. Now that we have peace a stupid minority wants 2 wreck it again, Luke Kelly sang the words as an Irishman but a communist peaceful irishman

  • A fantstic song with fantastic lyrics and alongside Elvis, 1 of the greatest voices ever in Luke Kelly, yet people take this as a secterian song, watch the video of a 17 year old kid who was shot dead and still the british army planted stuff on him 2 make him out 2 be a terrorist, imagine if the same thing had happened in london, liverpool, glasgow etc the uproar that would have occured, i mean Derry was no different fom them cities seein as they were under british rule, think about it

  • As a paddy I feel sorry for all the people that feel they have to comment on these songs with their own petty nationionalist comments. I personally just love the music, my only question about this song: Paddy or Luke? (I love them both)

  • travelled around ireland& scotland many times....but i have a soft spot for derry!great spot!geninuine people!fun people.good ol tracy's bar!

  • Comment removed

  • I smell an orangman

  • @lloydscott09 its showing the representation of the english army's influence during the troubles, however at the the song forwards threw time at the end and it is then considered Derry. not "london" Derry

  • A true legend, one of the greatest singers ever. Thank god we have lived in a time when this was able to be recorded and preserved. I don't think there are too many out there today will be remembered with such respect.

  • Joiner2000 summed up perfectly, how could you not know this voice...

A national memorial / monument to the memory of Luke Kelly is in order,

The man is simply Legend, in many ways he further enhanced Ireland's status internationally. Kelly is easily the greatest male vocalist this country has ever produced. Ireland needs to remember the genius who once lived in thier midst.

Everyone who hears this wonderful voice can't help to be in awe of his amazing talent.

    His Legacy Will Live Forever...

  • in that 1st photo of the man and the women well that women is my 2nd aunt and she was protesting about the hunger strike

  • For what's done is done and what's won is won

and what's lost is lost and gone forever

  • Luke Kelly for ever! This is te real Voice!

  • whats done is done and whats won is won and whats lost is lost and gone forever, un feckin real, says it all abt N.Ireland the struggle and moving forward never forgetting where u came from but never letting it hold u back, R.I.P troubles,

  • @orangetillidie its only starting, ireland unfree shall NEVER be at Peace... C.I.R.A THE WAR GOES ON! PSNI BEWARE ! NORTH ARMAGH BRIGADE

  • And vindication arrives in the form of the Lisbon Treaty. Where's our Irishness now? Won't be long now til we all become the USE and there wont be a trace of Irish culture

  • beautiful song by great singer.

l have english, irish and scots ancesters, not ashamed of any, all have great people and achievers.

Sadly also the ignorant, crude, haters who thrive and dwell on it, bitter people.

Saw the dubliners and luke kelly locally, great performers live, singing and music.

Dont think luke kelly or any of the other great irishmen, in music or literature are bitter haters.

  • This isn't Luke Kelly, but Paddy Reilly who is singing this song.

  • This is Luke Kelly. It's a studio version of the song.

  • jesus quit with politics and listen to the feckin song im irish and i am proud so stop with the political biggoting <---- cant spell sorry but just enjoy the bloody music of your home country

  • If you love "iriland" so much, at least learn how to spell it.

  • Can hesr this song over and over again.... Fu..... love it...

  • It's amazing how here we have such a beautifuly sung song yet there is nothing but aggression and hate amongst youtubers comments. Grow up people! Luke is a legend!

  • @kobbsno10

I'm not even going to look at the other responses. thanks for the warning...and yes, it's a beautifully sung song.

  • CORRECT..it IS about Derry..being ravaged by war.More importantly, tho, it's about how LUKE (R.I.P.) sang like a true Soldier of Song...

Rest In Peace, Baby-Boy.Love you always.

    Grandma, Eire

  • Why are talking about the RA when this song is about peace?U don't know what you're talking about and more importantly you're giving Irish people a really bad name. The Ira these days has nothing to do with why the original IRA were set up, nowadays it is solely about drugs under the pretense that it's about a united Ireland. Grow up, learn some facts and stop giving Ireland a bad name-you're in the minority, you can be a proud Irish person+not resort to the type of insults you're flinging about

  • We can never be Proud Irish People When we are Run by the union od britain ... But i do agree with You the IRA now aday don't even deserve to be called the IRA there a bunch of Kids who know nathing, But in the other Hand the politics Have done nothing and doesn't seem to Have a free ireland anytime soon. So were all kinda stuck in the middle and Just choose our sides

  • Erin go bragh!

  • learn to spell u knob!

  • You are all inbred fuckers... I am from Meath... I know what republicanism is all about.... this is a song about a city ravavged by war... please dont abuse anybody on this page

  • Up The Ra.

Brits Out .. All English are filthy huns.

They should be shot down .. Another bombing should do well.

    Out With Incest English Cunts!

    I.R.A Till I Die.

  • A typical, ill-informed, ignorant, stubborn Irishman.

And before you ask, I am Irish. I wish the English had taken us over. Maybe then we wouldn't have gotten stuck with all the corrupt bastards who run this country.

Ireland: the absolute worst place to be in a recession.

  • Fucking leave then

  • I plan to

  • Id be ashamed to be you your not an irishman you might aswell fly a union jack outside ure house.. Scum

  • First off you wouldnt be ashamed to be me... obviously.

Secondly, the Irish culture is almost, if not already, dead. Nobody makes this music anymore and from the hit-rate it seems not many are listening to it either.

I just watched a video of riverdance from eurovision '94 and got literal shivers down my back. But the problem is that all that was irish is gone, we're just another pop culture now. Take a stroll round dublin and that'll be obvious.

That's why it's embarrasing to live here

  • ya but thats dublin!! take a trip ta west cork and ull no wat it is ta be irish!!! people pack pubs ta listen ta this music played!!!

  • @gacc510 This music is alive and well in Dublin if you know where to go!! Huge pride in Luke Kelly as well, a citys favourite son

  • you are a fucking prick to call yourself irish.we irish have more respect for iriland then to come out with a statement like that. do you even know that men women and children have died for ireland. go back and be reborn you fucking gobshite. your not irish or even anyouther kind to come out with a statement like that. you must be a very sad or sick man or woman.get a life and cop on you fool.

  • @Kydos37 if it wasnt 4 they manky dirty orange bastards we would still b free so up the ra n tio c f'aid ha r la x x x

  • protastant inbreds

  • I'm sitting at the 'puter tipping a few and listening to this and you know there is only one other singer I know of who can sing with a "tear drop" in their voice and that was Otis Redding. Luke about makes me weep when he sings "I learned about life and I found myself a wife" the reflection in his voice when he says "myself a wife". That tear drop in his voice. Makes me miss home horribly, I really need to stop listening but I can't

  • this song is class!!!!!!! and i am fluent in irish

  • 26+6=1

  • I agree

  • so passionate, i love it

  • fantastic song... u can feel the passion in his voice. it was the last song her recorded before he died i think

  • no the last song he recorded was Song for Ireland
