Actually, some m-audio products comes with a version of Pro tools called Pro tools M-Powered Essentials. So for about 100 bucks you could have something to start.

@galeoftos Im a noob too lol, but I think it's pretty much the medium of connectivity, so you plug all ur instruments into the mbox, and the mbox plugs into the comp for great quality sound

@biglizard23 Bad News... You cannot buy the pro tools software by itself, I suggest the Mbox 2. You cannot use your mixer directly. ex. you cannot record multiple channels and output them to multiple tracks. You could plug the mixer into the Mbox and record it as one track - but that makes editing extremely hard.

Obviously they're going to give you the software with the hardware considering you HAVE to have Digidesign hardware to work with the software. In fact, you have to have it plugged in to even run Pro Tools as far as I understand.

Digidesign Command 8 has errors and oo2 digi has errors why not just hit record

rthen plugin and go not with digi protools

so crazy all day to setup then if you have a 64 bit windows then forget protools

so the pc rules protools funny 332 bit is now too small see ya on my roland 2480

its old but not pc and fast plugins in real time. i have protools its pretty and i got about 4 mins on play time and that was to much for pro tools. i dont hate pro tools

just wish i had never got it.

well of course, the 003 has more features than the MBox 2 pro. the adat optical in and out it self is a very good, and useful feature! :) but it only depends what you would like to do! :) well, in my case, I would like to purchase a 002 mixer! :) but with a external micpre.:)

he was saying if you buy an M-box you get the software, firstly why would you buy an m box if you didn't want the software and secondly the software should be free, at least the most basic of protools software should be free. I only want an M-box because I am 16 and have no clue what career I want to do apart from audio engineering and mbox is industry standard, if they at least had a free trial then I would know what I want to buy.

The difference is only the controls, which makes it sort of a combination of the Command 8 and the Digi 003 rack interface.

Try out ebay. Buying stuff used, but as new, will save you a lot of money. Get the receit and you have the guarantee.

get a preamp that can go optically into your interface. via ADAT lightpipe. like a digimax LT, FS, or D8 preamp.

I don't think he wants to record a stereo kick drum... Using two mics on a kick is far from uncommon though, I've put mics on the front of the head aswell as inside and I've used an ns10 speaker to pick up some real low-end. There are more mic applications too, grunt mics and room mics are commonplace! You can start to see how 10 mics on a kit isn't really that unbelievable, get creative!

the DIGI 003 has 4 mic preamps, 4 line inputs and can also accept 8 channels via a lightpipe input plus 2 channels on a SPDIF input. Lots more info at the digidesign website and on the digidesign user conference
