LA used their Gold / Purple gets up until the 1988 Season, which is the year this game was made so it's pretty accurate. The Oilers are definitely off and I guess the Montreal color was so that there weren't so many Red teams.

I LOVE this game. It is so freaking good I have spent hours and hours playing two player. This is easily my top 5 favorite game on the nes. What other hockey game can you just beat the crap out of the other player in a fight without going to a new screen. If the other player isn't paying total attention, and you get into a fight, you can just punch his ass out right there, which is my favorite. Also, controlling the goalie is fun, although I hate when they keep getting the rebound...

Yes, and it it used to prevent a boring game of keep away. Instead of a team just shooting the puck down the ice when it's in their zone, if they ice it, the face off gets brought back to their zone anyway. IT forces them to play an actual defensive game.

the game wasn't officially licensed off NHL, so the teams you play aren't supposed to be representative of the real NHL teams of the time. The game just happened to have some of the same cities. For example, the LA team isn't supposed to be the Kings, just an LA team. The individual colors are the same for College and Junior as the are in Pro. They're just generic, nameless teams.

Blades of Steel is the best sports game on the NES, along with Punch-Out!!

The only team color they were close to getting right was New York and MAYBE Toronto, but they're both a stretch. I always pick Toronto because it's closer to San Jose's color.
