The c-section rate has not dropped in the U.S. It was 32% in 2007 and has continued to rise. Some hospitals have rates as high as 75%. I also wish they put in here the unecessary use of pitocin in a lot of hospitals, where it is used in many cases before it becomes truly necessary. Making delivery progress at too fast of a rate in many cases, causing more painful and dangerous labors. Where as most midwives only use it as a last resort.
I had a homebirth and my kids were there and saw how their baby brother was born, but I do have to agree that the footage that they chose to show the work of the midwife is not the best one for the purpose of this video. The children shownon the video were probably more curious and amazed (and probably exausted if this was an middle-of-the-night birth) than frightened, but that is hard to see for someone that has not been there done that! This is a great informative video nontheless!
It has always bothered me that "medical science" started having women lie on their backs to give birth. What kind of sense is this? Doesn't the baby need to come DOWN the birth canal? So let's make it harder and have her push horizontally! Do you know why they did it? It was easier for the doctors that way. Disgusting! I'm sorry my discomfort and my babies natural birth process is inconveniencing you! :/
@IloveyouLenaKatina I fully agree with you here! I had one of my children while standing and there was almost no pain and the birth was so much easier.
Hving c-sction dz NOT make u less of a mom in ANY WAY! 1st son wz born this way bcz I did not dialate enough, he didn't 'drop' in position, & his heart rate wz getting slower. 2nd son wz also c-section bcz in my state *not going to gv all info* dr's do not do 'natural' after you've already hd 1st c-section. I wz very lucky that even though it is major surgery, both were good..1st 1 wz easier. As for "bonding" w/ur baby, I adore both & bonded as any mom dz w/her baby! ALL babies r gifts frm God!
I was in labor with my daughter for 47hrs. at hour 37 i was more than happy to take the epidural. i still delivered naturally, but so happy for the epidural. i had ten hours of sleep so i had the strength to deliver natuarally. Weird though. you are paralyzed from the chest down.
@prajer17 It's funny when I hear you say that because I feel the same way about being a woman. :)
It's such a blessing to be able to carry your baby, a part of you and (hopefully) the person you love. It's so very beautiful and natural. It's a connection unlike any other. I guess you just feel differently about it if you've got a womb and know that a baby can live and grow inside you.
@Jennafu832 you feel good and proud for carrying the baby in your womb but you also have to feel one of the worst pains in yr life when delivering the baby... so it's even!! for men,,,, it's all about gaining... after you deliver the baby for the man,the rest of his days are all about happiness(men who love babies)!!there's nothing about physical pain for them...but a loving and caring man will stand by you and comfort you when you are in pain though :P
@prajer17 Lol, there's definitely a lot of things worse than physical pain... I know it's bad, believe me. I also know that I have met a lot of daddies who are miserable. For one thing, a daddy isn't given nearly the credit that a mommy is- From day one, I was the one to be developing this strong relationship with my baby by breastfeeding. When John is afraid, I'm the one he runs to (not my husband). Let's put it this way- I'd much rather be a mommy than a daddy (and I've had the experience).
@Jennafu832 regarding to this clip, i will never want to be a mummy for sure!! the bond between the father and the kid might probably weaker than the one between mother and kid!! but that's not all about happiness!! happiness is when you see your kid happy..and you know, when there is not mummy, the kid will surely run to daddy..and when the kids grow up, the bond will get much stronger and stronger with their daddy so i think what daddy can do for their kids is what makes them happy.
@prajer17 Oh, I'm not denying the importance of a father figure in a child's life. My father died when I was a child, and I know how hard it is to be without a dad. I disagree with you that "what daddy can do for their kids is what makes them happy." I don't think that's true at all. The presence of a father has a lot to do with a child's happiness, but the responsibility of a child's happiness doesn't rest solely on the father. Mommies are important too!!! :)
@prajer17 This is NOT meant to hurt your feelings or be mean in any way, but I can definitely tell that you're a man. Men tend to think that it's just a matter of pain when it's so much more than that. If it's so horrible to bring babies into the world, why do we do it? Because I have dreamed of having a baby my entire life. Because I can't imagine my life without having the wonderful opportunity of being pregnant. To be honest, I feel sorry for men because they will never know how it feels.
@Jennafu832 It's not horrible to bring the baby into the world!! cos babies make your world shine brighter!!and they're one of the roots of happiness..but if you ask me to choose if i would like to be a woman, the answer is NO..but i think man is better as you dont have suffer any pains to bringing the babies into the world!for example, if you are about to rush out when it's raining, you will only grab the umbrella that is somewhere close to you the most!! u know, everyone choses the easiest way!
@prajer17 You don't seem to be understanding me. I don't think I'm getting my point across very well. I WASN'T saying it was horrible to have babies, but it sounded like you were saying that. I was responding to that. Also, a man has to carry burdens on his shoulders that women don't have to. For example, a man is expected to be emotionally and physically strong. They are socially discouraged from being expressive. That's probably why they live shorter lives on average than women.
@Jennafu832 no no!from what i said was to show that i was in an agreement with you that it's not horrible to bring the baby into the world! Its'true that a man has to carry burdens when a woman doesn't!! but you know, that's what a man wants to do for the ones he loves!!this is becos whatever u can do and give to the ones you love is what makes you happy! it's not what you receive from them that gives you a real happiness!!Even an injection freaks me out so no way for me to wanting to be a woman!
@prajer17 If you *were* a woman, you would most-likely feel the same way- you would do what you needed to do because you love your family. While I hate morning sickness, and I mean HATE morning sickness, I put up with it because of the outcome. A woman has a choice not to conceive a child (at least I had that option), but I wanted to. I think it has less to do with necessity and more to do with a general desire. It's not dreaded as much as it used to be, I think. :)
In Europe 75 % of births are attended by midwives.. OBs only come in if there's complications....
Outcomes are better with midwives attending, all research and statistics say so. And keep the suction bulb out of baby's mouth and nose... they don't need it in uncomplicatd births <3
@ rleb09, I am Dutch too and can tell you that home births in The Netherlands have always been the norm. Sadly, things are changing now and more births are taking place at the hospital (still not many compared to the US). They are still attended by midwives though unless there are complications. Also, if everything went well families typically go home within a few hours. It is normal for families to have a post-partum doula helping out at home.
Choose to have a doula attend you at your birth. Get to know her before your labor and you will not only have another set of hands and an extra heart at your birth but a knowledgeable friend with you and your partner.
I am a full supporter of the epidural. However, It does slow down labor! Mine quit working and I dilated very quickly while I was waiting for them to come give me another dose. I was in so much pain I don't know if I would have made it through the pushing without the epidural. I had to be induced since I went 2 weeks overdue, and my labor was 36 hours. Without the epidural I would have never had a moment to rest or breath since I felt like I couldn't breath when I was in a lot of pain.
@sahaja75 honestly, before you start calling these women satanists perhaps you should have a good think about why you think it's disgusting. childbirth is one of the most natural things in the world, and i truly don't understand how you could think of it as something perverse.
You freak! Will you stop talking devilishness? Who told you (and where did i mentioned) that childbirth is pervert? M? DO YOU RECOGNIZE THE MEANING OF WORDS - "PRIVATE", "SACRED", "INTIMATE" "VITIATION" ? YOU SHAMELESS MORON !!! Where did i told you that nakedness is pervert? WHERE U TWISTED DUMB-ASS !!! Clean your brainwashed head before writing!
I'm talking about INTERFERENCE !!! About shameless attitude, WHICH FOR YOUR RECORDS - IS and ALWAYS BE AMORAL, WHEN IS POSSIBLE TO BE SEEN BY KIDS !
@sahaja75 you linked specific times in the video, which showed children watching a woman give birth, i couldn't see anything else that could be considered wrong there. how am i twisted? you're the one shouting insults. how am i brainwashed? and how was that interference? or shameless attitude..? you're not making a lick of sense.
@sahaja75 the only pervert here is you. when god made man and woman, he created them nude. only when they sinned did they cover themselves. someone who is innocent or does not see the body as something to be ashamed of is not a pervert. surely, the people who genuinely think that having children witness the birth of a younger sibling is wrong or immoral have something wrong with them, not the other way around.
Women don't trust their own bodies because all of our lives we are told we don't know sh*t about our bodies. Why should we change just because we are pregnant unless we have a care provider who encourages us to do so.
Yes, birth can be painful but remember that the body has back up plans that help with that under the right conditions, i.e. trusted careproviders, lights low. no intervention - just observation, and good support for natural birth.
I've had to have c-sections with all 5 of my babies. I never went into labour with any of them, even at 42 weeks over due. I got induced but her heartrate went up to 200bpm. She was an emergency c/s.
i would dearly love to have a natural birth, but my uterus is so paper thin that it's quite dangerous. God is a miracle worker so anything is possible. i'm currently 35wks pregnant with #6.
I would never let a young child watch my birth. It just seems like all the people I talk to who have watched their mother give birth were freaked out by it. If they are older and want to, then I guess I would, but really young children, in my opinion, just are not ready for it. This is a great video by the way!
My comment was cut off. Like I was saying, no wonder the US has one of the highest teenage pregnancy rates in the world. Everyone is afraid to educate our youth on sex. RIDICULOUS HOW BACKWARDS WE ARE!
Human anatomy be taboo? Why should sex be taboo? We sit here and glorify war, violence, murder and so many other things and you dare call the natural thing that CREATES life taboo? Seriously people like you really need to stop thinking backwards. There is nothing wrong with children watching childbirth. There is nothing wrong about children knowing about sex. I learned about sex at the age of four years old. Knowing about it saved me from child on child sexual abuse
I fully support epidurals, as I imagine the birthing pain is excruciating.
But I'm not a big fan of cesarean section-births. I think births should be as 'natural' as possible, and require the least amount of medical intervention. That being said, some women do still need c-sections and I support that too.
@elementInfinitium Pain is necessary when giving birth, since it enhances the urge to push. Hence the complications at epidural assisted births (some of them), because the woman is anaware if anything goes wrong. never found it excruciating, of course it hurts, but when the baby is born, the rush of endorfin makes you forget it instantly. I would give birth any day, I enjoyed it so much. For me, painkillers would take away the sense of achievment. But that's just me.
@elementInfinitium I understand you support medical birthing which is fine. Patients need to be aware of the very serious risk and side effects of drugs and interventions. They need to know this before labor and they also should not be pressured which at many hospitals they are pressured or ridiculed for going natural. Yes, c-sections are useful at times but much less than now. When you pull on a child's head and neck it only takes a small amount of pulling to damage the babies neck.
@elementInfinitium The thing is that epidurals can cause unnecessary cesareans a number of ways: a) it can slow down labor, b) it can cause fetal distress, especially because mothers can't move around and get their weight off the umbilical cord if it is compressed; and c) epidurals can cause fevers in labor. If a woman in labor develops a fever in labor, the hospital staff doesn't know whether it is because of the epidural or an infection, so they often have to do a cesarean.

@elementInfinitium birth pain's not generally excruciating if you're allowed to manage your pain your own ways like moving around or sitting in a hot bath. but in hospitals they may not allow free movement.. so woman take the drugs to handle pain instead of having the freedom to use her own body.
I don't know why mothers allow young children to view the birth. It's just not right. They're too young to know about sex and yet they're not too young to watch blood pour out of a place that's supposed to be taboo? Makes no sense. Birth is an intimate moment between the mother, children and the father, or someone close to the mother.
@voxmel b/c it's easier to just do what someone tells you and since so many say the same thing, most don't do any research or even knows anyone who has done anything different.
@Bardoftoday That is unfortunately so true. Not only that, I heard an obstetrician comment that her hospital was pressuring her to perform more c-sections to increase the hospital's profits. So as long as people don't educate themselves, hospitals profit.
BECAUSE OF DISGUSTING MASS-MEDIA FORCEFUL INFLUENCE AND BRAIN-WASHING !
YOU FEMALES - ARE FULL WITH FEAR AND YOU CAN'T RELATE TO YOUR LOVER HUSBANDS ...ANY MORE!
FIRST EMPTY YOUR BRAINS FROM ANY DISGUST, UNDERSTAND WHAT POWERS YOU HAVE, DON'T USE THEM FOR ANY SELFISHNESS, USE THEM FOR LOVE AND UNDERSTANDING, THEN RECOVER YOUR VIRTUES, BY STARTING WITH ONE OF THE MOST DESECRATED - SHYNESS, RETURN INTO YOUR SHYNESS STATEMENT, PRAISE YOUR INTIMATE HONOR AND DIGNITY, THEN YOU'LL RELY TO NATURE!
@voxmel It's obvious, isn't it? The average human doesn't possess much knowledge regarding the human body in general, at least as much as trained doctors (Western *and* non-Western practices). Over the last century or so, women frequently died in labor as well as babies. The medical field has made strides in the prevention of unnecessary death and complications from birth. The traditional "strong woman" may have faced more complications than we are aware. Modern medicine has it's benefits, too.
@voxmel Why? Because medical science convinced them that doctor knows best. And guess who most of the doctors were who came up with this? And guess what doesn't create hospital revenue? Old-fashioned natural birth at home. Yes, I too am sickened.
The c-section rate has not dropped in the U.S. It was 32% in 2007 and has continued to rise. Some hospitals have rates as high as 75%.

@thebirthmuse I developed a fever during labor but they said it was so low grade I didn't need a csection. It really has to spike for that I think.

@elementInfinitium birth pain's not generally excruciating if you're allowed to manage your pain your own ways like moving around or sitting in a hot bath. but in hospitals they may not allow free movement.. so woman take the drugs to handle pain instead of having the freedom to use her own body.

That's just the thing.... it shouldn't BE taboo

I don't know why mothers allow young children to view the birth. It's just not right. They're too young to know about sex and yet they're not too young to watch blood pour out of a place that's supposed to be taboo? Makes no sense. Birth is an intimate moment between the mother, children and the father, or someone close to the mother.

Staggering!!! Why don't more women trust their own bodies instead of the medical community?
voxmel 1 year ago 25
@voxmel b/c it's easier to just do what someone tells you and since so many say the same thing, most don't do any research or even knows anyone who has done anything different.

@Bardoftoday Verty true. :-(
voxmel 1 year ago
