  • The olympic spirit represents the best of humanity, the resilience of the human spirit in succeeding no matter the higher the obstacle or the most difficult of adversities. It also gives one's sense of humanity and place in the world and the hope for a future of mutual friendship among nations. This is why the olympic spirit can't die.

  • Somebody missed the Like button. :P

  • I really do think that the 1984 Olympics in Los Angeles were the best held games ever. They were epic and I still remember it vividly to this day.

  • @TortoiseWayfarers There's no way that Games, any games, can be epic with a significant boycott as was the case in Los Angeles in '84 and of course in Moscow in '80 and Montreal in '76 - truth is US media tried really hard to create drama (as they usually do trying to boost their rating), but it fell short. It is a shame, though...

  • 1:16 to the end is probably the most famous part of this truely amazing masterpiece

  • We play this at graduation. I can;t wait to throw my hat this year. Especially to such a fantastic song

  • my gay neighbor made made me watch this..but thats ok... i'm all about patriotism..i loved freddy mercury's teeth

  • My high school band is playing this song.

  • GO SASHA COHEN!!!

  • can't wait until the 2012 olympics!!!!

  • i love this song

  • The beginning of the theme was played to start the medal presentation ceremonies in 1984. Anybody know what was played at the medal ceremonies at the 1992 Summer Olympics?

  • I believe Barcelona, Spain

  • this is fast...lol, i cld nvr play like this.

  • John William, a famous composer known for his soundtracks of big movies, composes the theme for the games held in Los Angeles, center of the american film industry. Well thought.

  • Created for the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics! truly a masterpiece!

  • Truly one of his greatest songs.

  • The Olympic theme is awesome.

  • indiana jones too,

  • John Williams... wow, that explains everything.. no wonder its such a damn good, and appropriate, melody..

  • John Williams could conduct a song for anything and it would be perfect!!

  • i love it (and star wars, jurassic park ;-) )

  • same here man. truly epic

  • Imagine this song and the images of Rio de Janeiro. Can't wait for the 2016 olympics!!!

  • John Williams is the Beethoven of this generation!

  • @jasonextreme Ahhh, no...more like Johan Strauss--catchy, sometimes memorable musical content.

  • @jasonextreme Him and Hans Zimmer =D

  • @jasonextreme Considering his themes are more like leit motifs, he's the Mozart of our age

  • @jasonextreme

Um no. I love John Williams but he would be the first person to flatly deny this.

John Williams understands that what he does it pop first and foremost. It's great brass, strings, percussion, but it's popular.

Beethoven was in the important years, a rebel and definitely NOT what the audience expected or wanted. He was a pioneer.

  • @nicnacnic So just going out on a limb here. Serj Tankian could be considered a Beethoven-esque musical figure. He write some exceptional classical sounding piano pieces, and is far from what the mainstream and majority wants.

  • @Patchworkdrum

Time will tell. Beethoven may have started as an oddball rebel but he came to change the entire face of classical music. It's unlikely in our age of eclecticism that we will see another 'game changer' of that sort again.

  • @nicnacnic This is popular because this is composed for a popular event. Listen to Williams' trumpet or bassoon concerti, you will see that Williams is not that conservative.

  • @jasonextreme no no, John Williams is the John Williams of this generation. :)

  • @Blackhawk145 Actually, Beethoven was the John Williams of the Classical world :-D

  • @jasonextreme Pretty much

  • @DMRCapitalHill Not anymore... :)

  • heard after 15 years, Always remembered the music , great.

  • I play percussion and i play bass drum and tipani great part

  • "Though you'd really have to die doing something majestic. It wouldn't play well, for instance, a staph infection got you."

I dunno. I could go down with swine flu and I'd like this playing at the funeral.

    *cough*

  • hahaha good plan!

Though you'd really have to die doing something majestic. It wouldn't play well, for instance, a staph infection got you.

  • When i die, I would like this song to be playing at the funeral. I don't care how i die, when i die, or where i die, as long as this fucking song is playing at the funeral.

    Next?

  • i agree with ya brother

  • Timeless, just like the brunt of John Williams music.

  • Such a thrillingly cool song... very international but with just the slightest american touch.

  • You know what... it does summon up an image of twinkling stars among a wave of stripes :D

  • so true!! :D

  • heck ya

  • John Williams = God.

  • Hehe to be precise, John Williams=the sound of God ;P
