  • Boo! Hiss!

  • What I find disappointing is that this was a lost opportunity. Letterman could have called out the guy *and* the audience for their reactions, but he chose to laugh it off.

    Jerk.

  • i think the subtext is is @ having had sex with her, not knowing that 'she' used to be a 'he'. emphasis on 'having had sex with ' & 'not knowing about..' << context.

  • people will laugh at all sorts of inappropriate jokes- but the minute it comes to them they cant handle it and say its offensive

how bout fuck you you cocksuckers

its a man in a fucking dress, sorry if some people find that a bit funny

  • its a joke- if you dont like it dont watch it

    hypersensitive fucking morons

  • Letterman isn asshole ! And the shows writers are too!

  • Burn in hell bigots!!! All you little insecure fucktards need to get your empty heads out of your ass and grow up!!

Really if you feel the need to belittle other people simply because they are different, only shows your ignorance and lack of class... Seriously even if you disagree with someone's lifestyle, you have no right to take it upon yourself to torment them!

  • @dudeofstuff1 hey it was a joke you oversensitive fucking faggot

  • This whole fucking country has become so fucking overly sensitive about every fucking things it pathetic. Transgender people are just fucking rediculious, nature didnt screw you up and give you the wrong body, you are just fucked in the head. People need to take a joke now and then. Political correctness has taken over right to free speech. Fucking americans.

  • It's just a joke people (btw, I am trans as well).

  • It was a cheap shot. I don't even think it was funny. Dave is way up there on the assholeometer.

  • huiessen obama has the body of an anorexic 12 year old girl, his nigger wife looks like a ape drag queen and his nigger kids look like little monkey boys. they are all transgendered

  • @cmiller8789

rofl. now THAT's a sentence. i wish i could favorite this comment, you ridiculous ridiculous person.

  • LOL lighten the fuck up.

IM OFFENDED!!!!!!! is kind of overplayed these days.

she's a dude who feels more comfortable as a woman. and everyone gets joked about so stop being OUTRAGED!!!!!! about a joke.

  • AHAHAHAHAHAHA!! finally someone said something!!

  • David is truly disgraceful

  • @bwonderve Maybe in another context I might agree, but this kind of social "humor" is always at the trans communities expense . The men making the joke are probably unaware that such reactions are usually used to justify attacking/killing us everyday.

Its a shame your as ignorant as them.

  • It's a pretty lame joke to begin with. Yes I think its insulting. It does ridicule transgendered women and homosexuals. Prejudice issues aside is it funny? Does as it work as humour? Letterman and his lacky audience think so. But not everyone catches the joke. Just another put down from an ignorant asshole who finds humiliation funny.

  • As much as I LOVE Letterman and Kalter, I was thrilled to see someone getting called on saying hateful inappropriate things about a trnas person.

I mean you wouldn't get away with talking that way about a gay person for years but people get away with saying ANYTHING about trans people, I'm glad we might be on the verge of changing!

  • "David Letterman Skit Insults Transgender Obama Appointee"

    No, it doesn't.

If I were Dave, I wouldn't apologize over this. If you can look at this, and honestly believe that David Letterman deliberately set out to insult transgender people (and for what motive?) then the problem doesn't lie with him. To me it seemed clear that the joke didn't have anything to do with Mrs. Simpson herself, but in having the kind of line you'd hear in a dumass college movie said in Alan Kalter's announcer voice.

  • Are all Americans stupid ? or is it just the ones on the TV shows.Of course, they invented CANNED laughter.Should be made to eat it that would solve there obesity problem.

  • @rob32909 Don't be so hard on yourself.

  • he didnt really insult her...

  • David Letterman sucks. I'd bang that girl all night long.

  • both of those statements are wrong

  • @borpee

Says the waste of sperm who supports the Westboro Baptist Church.

Better the world and kill yourself. You make life hard for everyone, and produce nothing of value.

  • that makes you no better than him you know

  • Not saying I am. We're all on a rock in the middle of nowhere. None of us matter in the broad scheme of the universe.

But yet he still chooses to hate others, and make their life hard. For what?

  • Comment removed

  • The reason it's offensive is because that same "shock" is usually the excuse given as to why a transgendered person is murdered.

    Don't be so fucking insensitive.

  • @BonsaiBlog : THIS IS FUNNY

  • @kennyhotz5 Nah... Your just ignorant , and part of the problem.

  • It is poor taste for David Yatterman to continue his jibes concerning Sarah Palin. Sarah's contribution is much more worthy than D's mostly slanderous way with words.

PS How many people hold up applause cards ? ! Walter Badge ...Australia

  • Dude, don't insult Yatterman by connecting it to this piece of trash. That movie was awesome.

  • I think we can all safely conclude that David Letterman is about as funny as terminal cancer. I'm surprised the network even retains this jerk.

  • I wonder what the impact would have been if that old fart, Letterman, made a crack at the Gay Community's expense? And as for that idiot running out of the studio - (wearing a bad wig) - I think the joke is on them, not Amanda Simpson.

  • Depicting people reacting in horror to transgender individuals is a dangerous stereotype for popular media to perpetuate because it contributes to the societal conception of transgender people as abnormal and deceptive, which all-too-often results in anti-transgender violence and/or discrimination when played out in reality.

That said, it was still kinda funny, especially because it came out of nowhere from the announcer.

  • I'm a genderqueer person and I thought it was actually pretty funny. It's a good parody, I think... made me giggle

  • @pantsbutt3000 For a "genderqueer person" you seem to have a very limited awareness of how such humor can affect social attitudes , and legitimize violence ...But just scratch out the facts because .... you know....its just a joke.

  • Quoted for truth: "Would Letterman make fun of someone for being the first African American or Latino presidential appointee? I don't think so. But because the transgender community is one of the most marginalized in this society, he obviously feels he can get away with insulting a transgendered woman"

  • @superstition2 Right on.

  • @superstition2 So true.

  • Well she is a very attractive lady. She could get around the block quite easily if she wanted to.

  • I dunno i'm gay and i find this funny. I think Letterman was trying to make fun of people who have freak out over gayness (or transness) than make fun of trans people themselves. I think the LBGT community is taking this way too seriously. We rightly attacked "that's so gay" but there must be a limit to attacking every joke. Making a big deal about this could be compared to that whole campaign to boycott Avatar because it has no trans or flaming gay people in the future. wtf ppl, just chill

  • @CheeseTrix13337 "We rightly attacked "that's so gay" ....

Thats the whole problem with many within the gay community, you only give a fuck about things that affect yourselves . I get the joke ,and I see where your coming from , but there's a whole context to this that Letterman and people like yourself fail to see, which is that such attitudes are usually linked to violence and murder against trans people everyday. Also the gay rights political movement is 20/30 years ahead of ours...

  • it's not funny because how would you like it if so many people were immature and don't understand stuff and you're marginalized, the ignorant "jokes" like this, and the whole "omg" factor get old very quickly.

  • "har har har" fuck you david letterman!

  • Trannie jokes are dead. But then, Letterman is old media, so he probably thinks it's funny.

  • I for one am a trans woman and I found it to be very offensive. I didn't see the humor in it

  • Letterman is sad :( Anyone who would diss someone who is that vulnerable isnt funny

  • @airmanma How dose being gay make you some kind of judge of what is offensive to trans people (unless your a gay transman that is) ...?

  • How is letterman still employed? He hasn't been funny in 15 years

  • Don't be idiot. Transsexualism has nothing to do with nationality. Whatever your nationality is, there is handful amount of transsexuals, thank the nature you were born not one of them. Transsexualism isn't the choice

  • Princess is right: "Would Letterman make fun of someone for being the first African American or Latino presidential appointee? I don't think so. But because the transgender community is one of the most marginalized in this society, he obviously feels he can get away with insulting a transgendered woman in a skit that is only 'funny' to those who share his obvious transgenderphobia."

  • @mrbriscoe2001 Well then maybe jokes about black people are funny too!

  • I think that Letterman must die. Just I think

  • I think the humor was supposed to be on how that guy was freaking out, not that Amanda was born with a male body.

People are born male or female, but man or woman are titles you have to work for. There are plenty of males and females out there who don't deserve the title of man or woman. And there are many out there who do.

Congrats Amanda! You earned your title of woman! And I can't wait until I earn mine! <3 Vanessa

  • a-man-da?

  • @CrackerJackLee lol yeah.....Amanda is quite an odd and unfortunate choice for a name for a transgendered woman.

  • Comment removed

  • You can tell Letterman has twenty-something douche writers on staff. Time to grow up boys.

  • This is a dumb controversy.

ANY hetero man who found out that the "woman" he hooked up with or masturbated to is a "man" would have the EXACT same reaction.

Ever seen Ace Ventura? The Crying Game? The list is long and well known. It's simply a cultural thing.

    Enough with the uber-sensitivity.

  • I'm guessing you probably don't want to hear how NOT true that is.

  • @lexilicious74 Now THAT was funny.

  • @lexilicious74 LOL ;D

  • As a woman whom happens to have a medical trans status I'll say this:

I think Letterman was making fun of the guy getting all wierded out by Miss Amanda Simpson.

Still knowing that the end result can be homicide or even Suicide for the Trans persons involved I find it hard to laugh with this skit..

  • she isn't confused, that's the thing, she did change her (physical) sex, right? You wouldn't do that if you weren't completely sure of your gender.

  • @luke666808g - A very knowledgeable response there......ROFL.

  • @luke666808g _Oh fo fuck yourself, you KKK idiot! What does having gender dysphoria have to do with being in the government? Trans women are merely women who were born in the wrong body. Like that has anything to do with being in the government.

  • @GretaOfSpringwood trans women are men born in male bodies, who decided to get their genitals chopped up and turned inside out like some kind of Frankenstein shit.

  • @luke666808g @luke666808g Oh you stupid ignorant sad shit! You know NOTHING about this! in the 1st place NOTHING is chopped off. God you are so fucking ignorant! Yeah a baby can be born with all kinds of birth defects but the idea of a baby being born with a male body and a female brain is TOTALLY out of the question. All I can say is you are just ignorant, uneducated trash.

  • @luke666808g And you know what if we DO decide to do it by choice SO WHAT? If a male would be HAPPIER was a woman and be a productive member of society what is the problem? what does it have to do with YOU? You homophobic fuck!

I'm glad you have a degree in all this!

  • @GretaOfSpringwood it has to do with me because I'm a tax payer, if you let trannies into the government they'll start giving out free tax payer funded sex changes in the name of liberalism.

  • @luke666808g They should, it's a medical condition. In Iraq the government DOES fund sex changes. And it has nothing to do with liberalism. Trans people are as diverse as non-trans people. I'm a trans woman and I am a moderate, extreme liberals get on my nerves as well as extreme conservatives. There are MANY conservative trans people too.

  • @GretaOfSpringwood Bullshit it's a medical condition, that just sounds fuckin silly to me, tax funding I mean, actually it sounds like the bullshittest government spending I've ever heard of, no wonder Iraq needs America to stick around, they're blowing their defense budget on sex changes, what a stupid idea.

  • @luke666808g Youre just full of hate.

  • @GretaOfSpringwood That doesn't matter, nobody should be forced to pay for someone else's sex change.

  • @luke666808g I guess for that matter no one should be forced to pay for ANYONE'S surgery no matter what it is.

  • @GretaOfSpringwood Well I live in Australia, we have free HC here, we don't however have free cosmetic surgery, you're expected to pay for that out of your own pocket, which seems reasonable to me.

  • @luke666808g, From what I've seen Australia's pretty well a homophopic/transphobic country.

  • @luke666808g But its o.k to pay for other medical treatment ? What is the reasoning behind your opinion, and what personal experience do you have with trans people ?

  • @luke666808g I agree with Greta, you're an intolerant fuckwit!

  • @LSGanon , B/c trans people should be respected as their INWARD gender, it's offensive to say, Ah she used to be a DUDE! As much as I love Alan and Dave, they as well s most of us could leanr some trans etiquette.

  • discracefull

  • that crazy letterman

  • It was irreverent and politically incorrect but that's what Letterman does. It's what he's ALWAYS done to EVERYONE (including himself).

You all just need to lighen up, get over yourselves, and realize that if we want equal treatment that means EQUAL, not preferential, treatment.

Besides, the joke could just as well have been mocking the transphobe as Amanda Simpson.

  • San FranFreakshow? Wow, how long did it take you to come up with that one?

    Yawn.

  • I'm not going to call this tasteful, but it could have been a lot worse...

  • Ms. Simpson is a three-decade veteran of the industry she is now going to be regulating. She has a list of credentials as long as your arm. This joke was worse than offensive, it wasn't funny.

1992 called, it wants its joke back.

  • 3 degrees (2 science, 1 business); Board Member of multiple LGBT Activist Orgs; State ACLU; Ran for US Congress unopposed in Democratic Primary and lost the Gen. Well educated, very experienced, VERY well connected.

Her post is only an advisory position. No authority. Low profile.

Obama gained political capital with LGBT groups; risked little to nothing. Great strategy by Obama.

I wonder, did she get the post in spite or because of her TG? Politics is funny that way.

  • untasteful and sad

  • if only letterman made your joke about A-Man-Duh then everyone would like him

  • Welcome to the mainstream, where fairly tasteless jokes are made

  • LOL

    that was hilarious

  • Are you stalking me, BlondeNursesOral??

  • Funny, I'd say the same thing if I slept with David Letterman and didn't know it was him ...... "THAT WAS DAVID LETTERMAN I SLEPT WITH?? ...... OH MY GOD!! yeccccch......."

Dave just keeps digging himself in deeper and deeper, don't he? I used to like him. Now.....not so much.

  • As always, Obama sucks.

  • "Einhorn is Finkle. Finkle is Einhorn. Einhorn is a man! Oh, my god! Einhorn is a man?! "

  • @Meejoe27

Great reference! I didn't see your comment before I made the same reference too.

  • If you used to be a dude, and you wanna date a straight man, you better tell him as soon as he shows any interest. He can then make an informed decision as to whether he wants to pursue you romantically. And he's not entitled to be a jerk about it. But... if you hide that fact, because in your mind "it shouldn't matter", then you deserve every insult he throws at you later. Because you may thing he's a bigot, but to his eyes you are a lying sack of shite. And you're both right.

  • Your an ignorant Jack Ass, Get a clue.

  • Comment removed

  • This is an insult, because it reinforces the notion that "ITS OK" to react with outrage, anger and shock when someone is discovered being Transgendered. Well, its NOT OK. The fact is, there are Transgendered people everywhere - and they may be your father, mother, pastor or boss at work. You never know. MANY MANY MANY people never live openly about who they are - many never even cross dress - instead they live with fear, shame and pain and hide it to protect others.

  • not funny, but then WHEN has Letterman EVER been funny?

  • From HRC: You may not be aware that the punch line in your skit has been used as a defense in nearly every hate crime perpetrated against transgender people that has come to trial. For example, the trans panic defense was infamously used by Allen Ray Andrade, who was convicted in 2009 of beating 19-year-old Angie Zapata to death with a fire extinguisher after learning of her gender history.

  • How is this an insult?

  • Didn't find this funny. Dave wouldn't make descriminating racial jokes about Obama. What makes descrinating sexual jokes about an appointed offical funny. Some of the previous comments here are moronic.

  • People/society have become so thin-skinned that anything - insult or not - offends. Very sad. BTW, this skit appears to make fun of "transphobia" as many have stated below...

  • I honestly didn't find this really offensive because it seemed more like he was making fun of transphobia more than anything else. Still wasn't that funny though, so I guess it did fail as a joke.

  • No one is asking for special privliages - JUST DIGNITY. Just becasue it is aloud to be said, doesn't make it right. No one is asking for a law to be passed - just for an apology for a comment that dehumanizes a minority. You would not understand the fear that one lives with day to day from people who would do you harm - not only to you, but your family, work and others in your life. Its is NOT ok to marginalize a minority as freaks or people that should be seen or met with outrage.

  • tar and feather.

  • I thought it was funny. And for the record, she is my sister.

  • SHE does not just dress like a woman, she IS a woman. Simple as that.

And she is NOT a clown!

  • Yes and I am Santa Claus, save the costumes for halloween night, otherwise try not to scare the kids by inviting them to the gay parade.

  • @petnogakatten Well said, My cous in trans and I've seen fist hand the shit she's gone through, if people ever had this hit close to home with someone they love, they wouldn't say such hateful things.

  • what?

  • Where did i loose you? a gay male gets a sex change essentially turning him into a female, right? if another gay male is attracted to a female, is he gay? Obviously no. then why else would a gay male get a sex change if not to attract a strait male by deception?

  • Males that are attracted to men are homosexual. They have a sexual preferance NOT a gender varaince. Men that change their sex have a GENDER IDENTITY ISSUE, not a sexual preferance issue.

People have a "Gender ReAssignment Surgery" do NOT do so because of their sexual preferances. They do it to aalign their MIND with their BODY.

The AMA backs this proceedure as the recommended care for anyone diagnosed with "Gender Identity Dysphoria". It has NOTHING to do with ones sexual perferance.

  • So what's the sexual preference of those that have a gender identity Issue? do they abstain or do they deceive (if that's possible long term) or is their partners bisexual?

  • Since 1980 it's become about 50/50 on the preference issue although I expect that to lean heavier towards "preference for females" in the future.

Dating is difficult before the surgery for those of us who self-identify as "straight" for obvious reasons. Honestly, it doesn't get much better after surgery for the very reason this video shows.

  • Most of us just want to blend and have "normal" lives. Unlike the aggro-activist harpies, we don't really want to advertise our "medical condition". The odds are most of us aren't going to disclose on a first date but there does come a time when something HAS to be said if one has any ethics. The guys who stick around may do it because they genuinely see us as truly female or they may actually be bi. They almost always self-identify as "straight", though.

  • "Agro-activist harpie" is a pet pejorative of mine. There are TS/TG people for whom TS/TG identity seems very important, almost central, to their "sense of self". As such they become activists and join LGBT-Rights groups and tend to get VERY aggressive when people don't kiss their butts. (you can see a lot of that in this list) I use the pejorative because I abhor what they do. IMO, incessant b*tching does far more harm than good among the general population. Harpie is from mythology.

  • "Sex Change" is fine with me because that's what I'm doing; chaning my biological sex from male to female. It's never used anymore, though.

"Sexual Reassignment Surgery" or "SRS" is still the most widely used term globally.

"Gender Reassignment Surgery" or "GRS" is growing in popularity although I personally dislike it for etymological reasons.

Finally, there's a small group who like "Gender Affirmation Surgery" or "GAS" which is complete BS.

  • LOL, I'll never remember all that, i can barely remember my name until I had my second cup of coffee so how hard will I be slapped if i just say sex change?

  • Tell you what, just stick to SRS and pretty much everyone will be OK with it.

  • To be the absolute MOST polite as you can it's always best to use gender-specific pronouns based on the presentation of the person you're talking to.

BTW, there are Female-To-Male TS and TG people too.

  • I knew there were cross dressers, again excuse me if I'm not up on the terminology I'm not trying to be offensive, but how does that work (literally). you can chop down a tree to get a stump but you can't put the tree back on the stump & expect it to grow (again literally)

  • LOL. It's not something I've looked into recently, not affecting me personally and all. I did read something about skin grafts and implants about ten years ago. I don't think most of guys opt for surgery because it doesn't really work all that well.
