The black lipstick (from hottopic) that I have goes on all gross and faded. Is it because it's cheap.

Possibly. Try finding a product called Lipcoat. It goes over the top of your lipstick and makes it stay on for far longer than normal. I usually use like 2 or 3 coats of the stuff.
