  • People, you should wait for a while after do you unplug the power cable. There could be stored up to 400V in the main capacitor(s).

Secondly, never use Radioshack junk capacitors(only if you want to redo them in a short while).

Go to Digikey select some Panasonic Fm, Fc capacitors and select USPS Priority Mail, it's about $2.75 and you will have some good capacitors in like two days.

  • great job man.. thanks for puttin' this vid up

  • your fucking hilarious dude. nice vid. this wasnt my prob but i enjoyed the vid

  • hey tell me if mines fixable i was swingin around my necklace and it slipped out of my hand and hit my tv. theres a tiny crack n it but it doesnt feel like its cracked and im pretty sure that the gases havet leaked out. but it is doing the same exact thing as yours was doing

  • @mathhew96 replacing a tv glass is more expensive than buying a new TV. sorry to bring the bad news.

  • DUDE YOU RAWK! i want to try this but i'm scared... are you in san antonio? LOL

  • @djgmerc most electronics have capacitors in them. if youve got an old computer or something, you can always take it apart and practice taking off the capacitors before attempting your TV

  • @FixItUrselfDummy Hey I have Samsung Plasma TV, u think I can open it up and do the same with it? cause my power button turns on but the screen is blank!!

  • @henryga310 yup just open it and check if the caps are bad.

  • Would this work on my lg tv? I dont get a black screen or random turning off but the picture is really shakey..odly enough the dvi works fine but all forums i have checked have pointed to the capacitors do you think this method could potentially fix this and if so which board should i be looking at? The video board or the power board? Thanks for your time

  • @101stsurvivor why not just open the back panel and see if theres any bad caps. wont do you any harm.

  • I have this problem with my LCD T.V. I opened the back and found 1 capacitor with a bubbled top, all the rest of them were flat, so I replaced it and it worked for a little bit then started turning off again. Checked all the capacitors again and all are good as new so i'm stuck, any advice?

  • would this work on a samsung? i have kinda the same problem, it wont turn on, and the led is blinking, i was able to turn it on sometime ago, but then some green lines appeared before turning it off :/

  • @DalisDL it should work if its in fact the same problem. all TV's are mostly the same. just open her up and check the caps.

  • Dude right on!!! Thanks for the video!

  • You are amazing!!!

I found a broken LG flatscreen 36" tv in the trash. Took it home, found a plug, and noticed the green and red flashing light. The rest of the tv looked fine, so I googled "broken LG flatscreen tv" and came across your video.

I went to Radio Shack, bought the soldering iron and capacitors for about $20, replaced them like you said and... VOILA!!!!!

I could not believe it worked! Thank you for my new $20 flatscreen tv!

One man's trash is another man's treasure

  • considerably more helpful than the "how to repair your LCD" guys video which should have been titled "how to unscrew and screw in the screws of an LCD" You should mention that the caps have polarity and to pay attention to which way they are positioned in the circuit board when removing the bad ones..

  • great job vin diesel

  • Good show Man, I too have a LG 42" with the same problem. After watchin your vid I took it apart and found 5 of the capacitors were buldging. Just ordered replacements should be here in two to three days! Thanks a million.

  • Watched your video, found 4 raised capacitors went to local Maplin (our radioshack equivalent) they had 3 out of the 4 changed them over and it came straight on thank you very much it cost me £1.27 which is a saving of about £398.73 on buying a new TV, So i'm very grateful thanks again.

Ps I'm convinced you are actually Vin diesel

  • I too have an LG with the same problem. I found 4 capasitors bubbled in my LG - but instead of buying new ones, I took apart a 20 year old Toshiba. The damaged capasitors were all 10 volt, 2 were 2200uf and 2 were 3300 uf. I replaced the 10v3300uf with 35v2200uf and the 10v2200uf with 16v1000uf. I did make sure to insert the +/- correctly (stripe on negative side made that easy) It took me 2 hours and couldn't believe it when I turned it on. And it cost me NOTHING!! Thank you for this video.

  • @MissyTeresa Wow! thats an amazing story. the exact reason why i made this video. these are times for getting things done yourself. im proud of you.

  • what if u hear a the tv working just no screen would it be the same problem>? my capasitors look normal

  • Amazing stuff, thankyou! I had exactly the same problem with my LG tv. Having had no experience of fixing my own consumer electronics, I was quoted a ridiculous amount of money by a local electrician to fix this problem. After following your instructions I managed to fix my tv for less than £10! Now working perfectly. Thankyou!

  • i need 2 change the capacitors from my tv and i have never done it before do u think its possible 4 sum1 with no experience 2 change them or should i leave it 4 the experts?...

  • @truegirl76 its actually pretty easy. the first one is the trickiest. theres also other videos on here showing you how to properly change your caps.

    basically you

    1.find the bad capacitor.

    2. burn off the two ends holding it in place.

    3. pull of the old one and insert the new one in the same way.

    4. melt the new legs unto the board

    5. your done.

  • hey guys my LG LCD tv has stopped working for the past few days now and its not like any of these vids it does not have a blinking light or popping noise its just off and ive tryed every single thing and nothing is working please contact me on my youtube please i need help with this situation.

  • was it blinking green mine just blinks green after like 20 tries the tv turns on then stays on but if i shut off got give another 20 tries ...fixing now..

  • @freeze729 mines was blinking green and red. watch the video in the very beginning

  • just to let people know if you have this problem with a samsung tv just ring the samsung helpline and they will send out a repairman to fix the problem for free, ive had my 40 " lcd for over six years,it seems to be a problem they know about and some models were fitted with cheap capacitors.repair came out next day and replaced all six capacitors took about half an hour.

  • you sound like vindeasel

  • @dragonode1 i am vin diesel

  • @dragonode1 He sounds nothing like Vin Diesel.

  • This helps a lot man ,, cheers , double thumbs up from me

  • Thank you for posting this! I have the same exact LG tv that's been non-operational for two years. Been searching the net for repair tutorials. Long story short, I followed your steps & my tv is working again :D

  • Excellent Video!

  • This dude is awesome! He's also funny;D!

  • HELP i have a insignia t.v and it wont turn on the little lite for you blinking is not even on for mines HELPP !!

  • Nice Vid, I've just ordered some capacitors for my LG, I hope it works :)

  • Good work if you have no previous experience.I`m going to do mine shortly as it has the same symptoms, but I am lucky to have a good basic education in electronics ( I`m an electrician) I think you`ve done well, but as you say... what have you got to loose by trying? It always pays to do your homework and as a matter of fact, most electronic faults are in the PSU and are usually electrolytic caps. Your soldering issues are probably lack of power in your iron, but well done!

  • Awesome, I admire anyone who has the balls to take the back off their telly and not just repair the main board by buying a new one (over $300 I'm told), but by actually repairing the part on the main board that has gone bad.

I'm too chickenshit...lol, my tv repair guy will probably have a great xmas this year.

Thanks though FixItUrselfDummy, will keep this fix in mind for later. Keep up the good work!

  • I know a PC store that throws away computer monitors with the same problem, so i'll always pick them up, repair them if i can and sell or use them :D

  • any idea if its the same problem for a flatscreen tv that switches itself of intermittently ??????

  • @fordescort1800 if your goign to throw away the flatscreen, you might as well open the back panel and give it a shot. its not like the damage will worsen.

  • i pray to god to man but i guess he dont like me jeeje my capacitor went out again what do you think is happening some help pleace

  • @fernandezleo1980 no idea but watch my other video on capacitors. you can probably get a higher capacitor with higher volts but the same uF. this way, it could store more.

  • Thank you my friend, can fix my fucked up TV now.

  • now i have to find a place to buy capacitors for my philips tv =____=

btw you sound like vin diesel lol

  • Very good job... especially if this was your first circuit board component change...

Only thing to point out is that the caps are polarized and need to be put back in the same + and - positions as removed....

  • @45von just fixed mines too. he actually has a separate video about the capacitors and he mentions that positive and negative thing your talking about.

  • Thanks mate,,,just fixed mine watching your vid. many thanks

  • Was your back-light working? Got the same kind of problem, however my back light comes on.

  • @weber2134 yes my back light works perfectly. the capacitors were the problem

  • @weber2134 i think his backlight was working. he just had bad capacitors

  • Thanks for this video! Just fixed my LG 37" LCD for £3! The capacitors are 50p each (I went to a small independent retailer)....borrowed a solder iron from my Dad, So pleased. I had bought a replacement TV so I now have a huge bedroom TV lol!!!

  • @muddypuddle2 great job man! glad i could help out.

  • i have a 40 inch flatt screen samsung model la40r8 1bd tv and i repelaced 2 blown caps they was 2200uf each and ten volts so i put 2 new 25 volts ones in low esr types and its still not working but clicks alot and the red light blinks on and off so i googled it more and they say it could be a corupted eeprom what else could it be all other caps are fine and the 2 fuses are ok

  • @stevenchiverton48 i forgot to mention my flatt screen tv is a samsung one , and the relay in it keeps clicking along with the red light blinking on and off

  • Great!

  • Hey man I think ive got the same problem as you had my lg tv has a black screen when turned on but it doesnt always happen some times it works and when it does it works untill I turn it off again. I think my capacitor may be on its last breath lol struggling to work. My question is how do you know what capacitor to buy I have a 32" LG lcd tv its model number is 32lg5700 is there a specific capacitor for that model or can you get any LG capacitor? Please reply I want to get this fixed quick

  • @daveKoRnfan whats up man! the only way to know which ones you need is to open up your tv, find the bad capacitors and read the volts and uF that is written on the side of the capacitor. normally you want to get the same ones you have. watch my other video to learn more about capacitors. thanks. i hope you fix your TV

  • @FixItUrselfDummy Thanks for the reply man. I found a guy on ebay thats gona give me new capacitors I opened my tv and took down the details of my capacitors ill watch your other vid when its time to replace my capacitors although it seems my tv is working again with the same capacitors it comes on straight away although im still gona buy the new ones just to have as spairs for when they eventually do break

  • What size caps were they what size caps did you use as a replacement??

  • Kewl video..... Its great - with a little time and the right attitude, most anything can be fixed or repaired at a reasonable cost....... Of course the reason Im writing... my LG plasma has good sound but no picture (black screen)...... removed the back and looked.... hmmmmm nope I dont see anything that might indicate a bad cap....... no bluge or leaking caps???? I heard something about "dry caps"?? not sure what that is or how to test for symptoms. thanks for any input

  • Hi there, thank you so much for posting this video. My LG TV was exactly the same as yours. I am in the UK and the only people advertising quoted £145 call out charge alone. You saved me so much money, plus they probably would have taken the TV away for goodness knows how long! After watching your video it inspired me to try it out and it worked - thanks again. It cost me £20.

  • @RODDFORDS thats fantastic! i love hearing stories like this! im glad i could help!

  • @FixItUrselfDummy..what model was your LG..Mine has problem where as when powered red light blinks once and goes off.and there is just a blank screen .This happened after a failed installation of firmware to make able to play dvx..Any ideas what parts i may need to replace..

  • Dude, I know you sorta stumbled through this but I learned enough to do this and saved myself ~ 600 bucks! It only took a few hours and it worked perfectly. One thing I discovered is that at least one of the caps I replace was an "odd" rating: 1500 mF - 24V...it's advisable to discuss this with someone who understands electronics if you have one of these to know what to do. Thanks for making this film!!!!

  • wow, thanx man, same TV, same problems...i up to fixing my tv myself! got nothing to lose....thnx again!

  • @CikaVeljaCCCC your welcome

  • Thanks for that. Guess Ive got nothing to lose, and maybe a telly to gain. Cheers!

  • Nice video now i'm just nervous about sottering lol

  • @jrenten lol yeah it was my first time doing it myself in this video so i was a little nervous but it turned out to be not so bad. goodluck

  • @FixItUrselfDummy

    Holy shitballs it working!

Well done, particularly if you had never even done soldering before.

Its worth mentioning to others that they should get exact replacements with regards to their capacitance rating, the voltage rating can be the same or higher.

Oh and get the positive and negative the right way round too.

    Nice video.

  • Hi there. Great vid! My TV is a Samsung LE40R87BDX, and its doing the same thing as your LG, do you think this procedure would work for me? Bit scared about trying it, but cant afford the prices they charge for repairs, so if I could do it myself it would be fantastic.

  • @77MyEsha Go ahead and try it if your TV is not under warranty and your going to throw it away. Might as well try and fix it yourself. First thing is to take off the back panel and make sure that the capacitors are the problem. goodluck!

  • what capacitador volt the use , thank.

  • worked like a charm, thanks fr posting this. the only hard part i had was finding the capacitors. other than that, was really an easy fix

  • my tv relay clicks but wont turn the tv on. I checked the capacitors on the power supply but all capacitors are fine. any tips on what may be wrong with my tv?

  • @915nabi sorry man! i have no idea. fixing this tv was my first time doing anything of this kind.

  • @915nabi

Is it a samsung? If so check the 10v Caps with a fine tooth comb. Or just try replacing it anyway :)

  • @MrGamingAddiction its a dynex 40" hdtv.

  • I was given a Dell 4201C from my job because the screen was acting up. Brought TV home, it worked great, earthquake happened, we heard a pop, now there's sound but no picture. I was directed to this video on a message board somewhere, I searched for 'DELL W4201C HD powers on / off no picture - how to fix') found a descriptive page on how to fix it, but I'm not confident to do it myself. Anyone know who/where in NYC someone can come into my apt. and do this?

  • @mamatude33 unfortunately i cant help you out. im not all that electronics savvy. I also dont live near Ny so I can't really help. What I would try is searching for " no video sound good" instead. thats more of a dead on search so you might find the answer quicker. try digging through youtube, its a great reference site. im extremely sorry i couldnt help, and your TV is a very nice one so I would definately try fixing it. goodluck

  • I have repaired lots of tvs all because of caps, but not always! Sometimes caps are just the start of a bigger problem!

  • @ArcadeGames Yes thank you for your feedback arcade, but the title says fixing your capacitors. this is a video to fix capacitors, not your power supply or bulb. thanks for your input though, you are correct, its not always the solution.

  • I have the same piece of crap 47" LCD. After removing all the screws the back won't come off. I'm scared if I pull something else will break on this POS.

  • @xXhamiltonXx Did you make sure you took off all the screws? Dont forget there are some located in the section where you plug all the cables too. Also if you lift the cover lightly, you can see where all the pressure is coming from and located the screw.

  • @FixItUrselfDummy It was kinda stuck, I got it off finally, but all the capacitors looked fine. I'm going to replace them all and hope it works. Thanks for uploading this.

  • And maybe have someone that doesn't have epilepsy hold the camera.

  • WHY play crappy music over your audio? It is not a fucking music video. It is a repair video. And your taste in music sucks.

  • I bet you are one happy camper !!! Good deal !

  • HOLY SHIT BALLS ! My new favorite saying ! Very helpful vid. Thanks !

  • Hey man Pleas RESPOND!!... What if my Tv has the same "syntoms" but all my capacitors are plain From the upper part??

  • @SalvatoreFerragamoTv I honestly dont know. My Friend just left a TV at my house with the same symptoms you are discribing. Ill let you know if I find out.

  • @FixItUrselfDummy Thnx man, youre the best!

  • You are a fucking machine man!! im going to try this with mine. Hopefully my CERO experience with Tv´s will be usefull XD

  • wat size capacitors did u use????

  • @npbhardcore size or capacity? some looked a little bigger than the original, but as long as the vold and uF are the same, your good to go

  • That was awesome! Thanks.

  • @DaytonaGreg your welcome!

  • THX MAN ;D REALLY! My sister didn't want her plasma anymore cause it didn't worked and i said give it to me don't be stupid to get away with it so i was like what to do with it? "GO watch some vidz on youtube" and i saw yours and now it's working :D and i got a new 42 inch man thx alot!!!

  • @BosnaVolimte Nice work bro! Nothing beats a free TV. Glad I could help!

  • Top video ,Just used this guide to change 4 caps on my 42" lg.They cost less than $10 here in the uk and an hours work. Working fine , thanks man.

  • @scooboy Thanks brother! Glad I could help.

  • Question, my Samsung has jus been making Clicking and cracking noises, did that happen to your tv before it went dead?

  • @nyjeterss yup my TV was cracking and popping and making loud songs. eventually it just died and went into the stat you see in the video.

  • @FixItUrselfDummy question- my dynex lcd 32 inch has the same problem as yours but when i opened my lcd up all the capacitors were fine.. help please? is there any other thing that could cuase the black screen but have sound?

  • nice going to try it later today

  • hell yeah! im doing the same project today!

  • @goose246 Hope it works out for you! I first tried radioshack and they didnt have tthe capacitors i needed. if you cant find yours there, try your nearest electronics store or youll have to find some online! either way, goodluck!

  • hell yeah! Im trying it today as soon as radio shack opens! nice job

  • great video

  • try an electronics website or your local radioshack

  • Where do you buy the capacitor? I have the SAME problem with my t.v is a 52LG70-UA.

  • Hope someone can help. The shop told the lady I bought a LG 50in plasma that the IMP was failing on the X sustain board.I have found X left,X center and X right is it one of these boards.I have a pic that is hard to see with all the big color spots covering it with good sound. Please help

  • wow. thank you so much for posting this I have the same make tv just a 37 inch. after reading several post on check the capacitors, I can tell you how much your video helped.

  • ya man thanks for showing me this and to all the haters gtfo this my nigga bet most of u couldnt do what he just did.

  • Typical niggers

  • Hi there! I just want to say "THANK YOU VERY MUCH"! Your video helped us out A LOT! We have the same exact TV as you do & had the same problem. We only spent $7.90 to replace 4 capacitors! Thanks again!

  • Bad caps do not always bulge like he shows. Quite common to find bad caps with no external visualization that they are bad.

Do NOT buy your caps at Radio Shack - they sell standard, 85C caps - you will be doing this again. These are used in a "switching" type power supply. For these, they ABSOLUTELY MUST be Low-ESR type caps. Go with Panasonic FC series or Nichicon HE series. Beware of sellers on Ebay selling cheapie Chinese knockoff capacitors.

  • @GPE001

    interesting.

  • you said it man Holy Shit balls, thanks alot for this video i got a LG Flatron L246wh

blue flashing light but no picture i knew it was the power supply but didnt know what to look for this video explains it nicely ordering new caps now!

  • Thanks for all the good comments! One Thing I forgot to mention is to make sure that you remember which side of the capacitor is the Negative Side. Theres a Positive and Negative End on each capacitor just like batteries do. The negative side usually has a different colored strip down its sides. When installing the new capacitor, put the negative end just like the other one was.

  • Yo, it works. The most expensive thing was the Soldering iron and lead. The capacitors were $1.98 ea @ Radio Shack, yes, they have it. I just switched them out, two of them, and tried it before i closed the back, which is not the best idea but it worked. Then i closed the back and plugged it in, yay!!! it works.

I had to take pictures with my phone so i can remember where what goes...thanks dude...awesome.

  • Fucking awesomely awesome dude!!!. I am having the same problem right now with my LG LCD. I will follow your technique and hope i don't get blown up, lol. I will also post back when or if i get it fixed, thanks.

  • good thanks

  • I have the same model and the same problem bro!!!

  • Bro, thats Awesome!!!!!

  • Your the man!!! I watched your video and I have the same model number same problem. Went and got capacitors.Took everything off .. Done Dizzy !! Fixed the problem under thirty bucks and saved me lots of money .. appreciate the video :)

  • Hello sir can you help me?

  • hooooly shit balls hahaha

  • you rock dude.... i have the same tv but its a 37" and it has the same problem.

  • Hey Man thanks, I just repaired mine for less than three dollars. I had one bad capacitor. Anybody need a LG fixed..............Lol

  • Thank you so much!!!! The TV had no sound/no picture. I watched your video with my Dad. He took the TV apart like you did. We found 2 bulging capacitors. I went to a family owned Electronic store that sells parts for TV's and everything else! My Dad fixed the TV for $4.21 and 3 hours of his time!!! I hope people who have this same problem watch your video! THANK YOU, THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!!!

  • It feels good to know that some of these fixes aren't that hard, doesn't it? I'm working on a 42" LCD tv w/ 1080p that I picked up from a guy for $150. I had it working, but something else went wrong with it a couple days later, so I'm researching the problem.

  • I saw your video, and I have similar problem with my and you are %100 right. Thank to you I was able to fix my too. Thank YOU very very much.
