It is interesting to be able to track a band from their start. I have demos and other rare recordings from most of the bands I've been following for decades, including U2 and Bowie.
You can't really track bands today because they seem to come polished, sterile, and boring right out of the mainstream box. Not that I'd care to follow any of them. The last band I faithfully followed was the Pixies. Before that Joy Division.
Having been born in the 60's had its benefits. We cared about music.
@ToolsnFire I was around back then; they'd pass for a mainstream US haircut. U2 were this punkish alternative band and Bono's hair was disappointingly redneck.
There's a Rockpalast (a German TV show) episode of U2 from November 1981 that features this song. They have a lot of episodes up at their website; don't know if this is one of them (I have it on VHS myself), but it's worth looking into.
