  • Who's playing the Moog? I hear a keyboard.

  • Absolutely fabulous

  • Best breakup song ever.

  • you know, this sounds like a funny little song, but years ago it helped me get over a bad break up..this song came on the radio and thats when i realized the sun would come up tomorrow, like a red rubber ball...ha ha..love this song

  • Err....who did first? Cyrcle or the seekers?

    Thnx

  • @wingobingo CYRCLE are original artist.

  • @deafsubtitles It was co-written by Paul Simon (of Simon and Garfunkel) and Bruce Woodley (of The Seekers).

  • @erny04 Thanks I already know....the info is in the space underneath the video.

  • @erny04 CYRCLE was original artist NOT Seekers. According to Cyrkle guitarist Tom Dawes, Simon offered it to The Cyrkle when they were opening for Simon and Garfunkel on tour.

  • @wingobingo Wikipedia that stuff. Paul Simon (Simon and Garfunkel) and Bruce Woodley (of The Seekers) co-wrote it and The Cyrkle were the first to record it, making The Cyrkle the original artist.

  • @wingobingo It was co-written by Paul Simon (of Simon and Garfunkel) and Bruce Woodley (of The Seekers).

  • I they are performing in front of an ethylene glycol molecule.

  • 1966...... The Morning Sun Is Shining Like A Red Rubber Ball....

  • @lovelifeforever

    *Descendant not

    Defendant

  • @lovelifeforever202

Why be hatin' on modern-day pop? It's the defendant to this in a way. To hate all of the pop-culture genre is to hate, like, 55% of all music...

  • Finally found out who sang this song. Haven't read the other comments here but incase no one else has mentioned it this song was co-written by Paul Simon. In this video The Crykle are lip syncing to a recording.

  • @Rambler003 COULD have saved time and read the info I posted with the song. Got it from Wikipedia.

  • Thumbs up if your here becuse of McClintock

  • i just broke up with my boyfriend and this song completely cheered me up ahha :) <3

  • brings me back to '66. one of my favs

  • "Though not officially a one-hit wonder"? So, Not a one hit wonder then.

  • This has been one of my favorite songs throught the years and I have often sung it to myself. Too bad Cyrkle was so short-lived. They were pretty good and very pleasan

t to listen to (and watch)! Are the band members still living? And if so, I wonder what they are doing now?

  • @IamHisSheep CHECK Wikipedia and IMDB.

  • Lol my mom used to sing this in the mornings to get us out of bed....now its not so bad lol

  • @AneTix101 Sweet! Bless her.

  • The Cyrkle hit #2 in Billboard, 7-9-66. God bless ya, for postin' it. Thanx! Have a great weekend!

  • This is the first time I've ever seen a clip of these guys, and I LOVED the song when it first came out! I had no idea they were a trio....and look at the guy with the short hair--unheard of at that time!

  • I did know that Paul Simon wrote this one. But only much later. I think just about no one knew it when it first came out. Good song.

  • I memory serves me right the drummer's name was Marty Friefeld and he lived in Palmer Township.

  • @rch105 The drummer's name is Marty Fried. He's an attorney in Michigan. I work in the same building as him and ride the elevator with him every day!

  • I saw Cyrkle on Aug 29, 1966 at Candlestick Park - still have ticket stub. It is in a frame with my Butcher Boy album cover. Was working at a summer camp in Occidental and sent in $6.50 per ticket to KYA. Got front row in box seats above dugout where The Beatles intered the stadium!

  • When Jesse Jackson appeared on Saturday Night Live around 1984 (during his presidential candidacy) he covered the first stanza of this song.

  • Its neat to watch them sing. Millions have heard this song. They really had the song perfected... Thks for posting.

  • I came to this because of Streetlight Manifesto.

  • This was one of my first ever "favorite songs" as a kid. I never knew until right this moment that Paul Simon wrote this!

  • Paul Simon wrote this song with another guy. Look it up on wikipedia dude.

  • we sang this faster as a cheer at camp...

  • Weird!

I ahven't heard this song in over 30 years but I would hav esworn the lyrics were "you'll come bouncing back to me like a - red rubber baaaaaaaaaaaall" which makes a lot more sense.

    I'm very confused.

  • @zzGRENDELzz , I think you are confusing another artist. I think Bobby Vee.

  • @zzGRENDELzz Check it out: youtube.com/watch?v=6GRuzaMwvrA

  • @zzGRENDELzz you miss the spirit of the song. Look at the movie "nowhere-boy" about a young John Lennon. It is a "recovery" song for those of us who are not so fortunate. the dish falls, it goes crash on the floor, and we weep, pout and cry. The worst is over. it's time to sweep-up, and shift gears. life is sometimes tragic. please do not take away our sunrise after a long cold night!

  • "Not the only starfish in the sea".......

Is that an anal intercourse reference?

  • They sounded similar to Gary Lewis and the Playboys.Well, to me anyway.

  • The boys were from Pennsy.

  • No Paul Simon did not write this...Nor did the Cyrkle! This song was written by a group named "The Aztecs" in Red Bank, NJ. The rights were sold to a Lousy Music Producer who stole the song from the group because of their ages..and because they had no real manager. This song was recorded as a demo for the Aztecs to be recorded as a single> The Opposite side was a version of "Land of 1,000 dances). How do I know? Because I wrote the song!

  • @TheDandaman52 Wish you could get your due, for this . its a fun song and Im sure it made lots of money! Sorry you got robbed

  • @TheDandaman52 - if this is your song, thank you so much for writing it and singing it. I was only ten when it became popular, and played the 45 over and over again! A friend knew someone in the 1910 Fruitgum Co. and they got ripped off with their music. They were only 17 and didn't make a dime. Do you get any residuals or did you lose all the rights? I hope that you are glad that the song has endured and is still being listened to by a lot of us boomers...

  • the Cyrkle , opened for the beatles,at candlestick park,S.F.

1966, anybody remember???shortly after I moved to Kesey country.

  • @ :43 secsonds in...."Man, I wish I was watching kids on a playground right about now..."

  • The Morning news comes up and soundes like it is present by news readers with purple rubber balls for brains.take care ADonovan43

  • very good, but hearing impaired people don't read faster than other people. It would be better to put a full line on the screen for the standard "subtitle" time instead of putting words on 1 and 2 at a time.

  • @sharontzu5 Are you Deaf, Deafened or Hard of Hearing? Deaf cannot follow the singer if subtitles are one solid line, they cannot follow the rhythm or cadence. I MAKE my subtitles to follow the natural flow of the singer so that Deaf can sing along with their hearing friends and family w/o being embarrassed they are missing the tempo.

BTW, I am Deafened, Hearing person who became Deaf.

  • @deafsubtitles I am deaf... gone deaf after a slow decline from childhood. I remember the original song, and I think that the subtitles are just fine, thanks!

  • @MizzBonesUSA Wow, same as me. I have hearing aids, but I prefer signs as I get everything at the meeting that way.

    Thanks for your support.

  • How they are remembered for this song and not "Turn down day" is beyond any grasp of reasoning.

  • My uncle was the drummer no joke, my uncle Marty (Marty Fried), after the band he became a lawyer, he's a very cool guy.

  • @Jlabs23 Thanks for the info.

  • This looks like a parody of 1966-67 made in 2008. That guy's haircut... I mean, it's cool, but nobody under 30 in showbiz had a haircut like that in the late 60s.

  • @BadgerinSC Sure they did; and they had followings, too, but not very large ones, LOL.

  • I used to have a shirt like that.

  • The drummer is quite a looker. What a a cutie

  • These guys in this video look pretty recent! Love this song.....sadly I like to describe myself as "always running, never care and that's the life I live." It's just such a great song, not sure why, but it moves me and that's all that matters!!!

  • The guitarist on the right either just got back from Vietnam or he's a time traveler from 2011 with that no-hairdo!

  • I listened to this (and other songs:) on our family's transitor radio while camping at Shawnee Lake in Ohio back in the 60's. I still love the song. Watching this video make me feel like I was 11 years old again. Makes me wonder why the oldie stations here play the same songs over and over again. They need to play this sometimes. Thanks for posting the video here.

  • FINALLY- a pop/rock band that DIDN'T have long hair and/or sideburns in 1966! LOL

  • Guitarist looks like he's just about to join the army.

  • My first real boyfriend and this song. Magical.

  • Comment removed

  • where's the bass player?

  • @spareaxe The keyboard player is absent, also.

  • are we still friends RAHM?

  • These guys have short hair for the 60s -- the one guy looks like he's already in the military!

  • @jmacleve : I don't think everyone had long hair in the entire decade of the 60's... these guys looked like corn feed, white bread, goody two shoes, republican, obey your president kind of guyzers, just my two cents - could be very wrong of course.

  • They're not from Easton, they merely went to Lafayette.

  • @317RockNRoll I hear yah, LOUD & CLEAR.

  • @317RockNRoll I hear yah, LOUD & CLEAR.

  • gee, i wish paul simon would hand me a song to record. really.

  • @murphstrings apparently paul simon says they stole it from him.

  • @ylboxer Not really "stole". The Cyrkle just recorded it before Paul and Art did... So, sadly, they never did.

  • My philosophy teacher played this for us in class....I think it was the only thing I remembered from his class...

  • A wonderful song that takes me way back to my youth...back when music was something totally different than the "stuff" today...

  • I remember this was probably the first music album my older sister got! I was very young, but I enjoyed it! But my sister's parakeet loved it the most--it would chirp and dance madlt to this tune! LOL! sincerely, BobbyK

  • @bobby7771117 Cool.

  • wow....is it just me, or are they not really playing their own instruments?

  • if I never hear your name again it's all the same to me

  • Loved this song when I was a kid. I still love it!

  • WHEN I FIRST SAW THIS VID I SAW THE DUDE'S HAIRCUT AND WONDERED IF THIS WAS A RECENT VIDEO OF SOMEONE RE RECORDING THE SONG HEHEHEHE NEVER SEEN THAT CUT IN ANY 60'S MOVIE

  • @ganthonyvr the cut is the crew-cut, and it was very popular in the 60s especially in the summer!

  • like dude on the right doesn't even know how to play guitar. Maybe he's the keyboardist or bassist (those mystery musicians you can hear but can't see)

  • I always liked this song. I was surprised to find decades later that Danny Danneman the water ski counselor when I went to camp as a kid was one of the members of the Cyrkle band that sang this song. Lots of the girls at camp had a crush on him.

  • i used to have one of those shirts. gad, i was a dork.

  • I've never heard it before! I'm here due to a crossword puzzle.

  • I love this song!

  • Did you know the guy with the double-neck guitar is Ashton Kutcher's dad?

  • Cute. CO-written by Paul Simon AND Bruce Woodley (The Seekers.)

  • Short lived BUT very memorable!

Great hits from a great group......

  • What an amazingly bad lip sync. Notice the drummer missing beats all during the tambourine part. Where is the keyboard we are hearing?

  • Great Paul Simon song!! Another 1966 song I love!

  • Great Paul Simon song!!

  • I think of the Circle in my hometown Indianapolis

and the Red Ball Special of Eddie Sachs, abnd the flames that engulfed the mainstrech and took his life just after the start of the 500 the year before this song-

the videos on youtube- someone had a camera placed right where itall started- imagine that!

and I think about NAM- "Yes the worst is over now" in 1965- HARDLY-

but maybe considering the overall crazy asian war

    for god's sake turnaround....

  • did you know Paul Simon wrote this?

  • @LightSnowOvernight No he didn't. It was co-written by Bruce Woodley and Paul Simon

  • @royalcourtier Seems like you're grasping at straws there. If the man co-wrote it, he definitely didn't not write it.

  • @LightSnowOvernight Paul Simon and Bruce Woodley of the Seekers of Australia

  • @LightSnowOvernight Simon CO-wrote it with one of The Seekers band.

  • @LightSnowOvernight

    Right on!!!

    Peace.

    Rock

  • @rockinroller7 Another song that is so much better than anything DC5.

  • @rockinroller7 And stolen minutes of all our time is all that Dave clark had to give.

  • @11xzxzxz

    Very well stated.

    Peace.

    Rock

  • @rockinroller7 Yeah glad someone gets the joke. I got my life to live and I don't need the DC5 at all. New movie is out called the Ides of March .. I want to see it though I haven't read any reviews .. movies today are so bad. Oh sorry this last part has nothing to do with this site.. well I am just busy doing inappropriate stuff all the time and stealing minutes of time.

  • @11xzxzxz

Well, Clooney seems to get very good scripts. I've enjoyed each of his movies, I've seen.

Did you know he's a Cincinnati boy. His Dad did the evening news there for decades.

and on a musical note, his Grandmother is Rosemary Clooney, big in the 40's and 50's, if you weren't aware.

    Peace.

    Rock

  • @rockinroller7 Interesting. I didn't know he was a Cincinnati boy (thought Steve McQueen was as a Kid) but I knew his grand-mom was Rosemary (I know because shes' my great great great grandmom). Just stop the trivia - it's so damn wrong on any site. There are rules to follow Ross and if you don't you will be tossed like a .. red rubber salad ball. Peace2, Spike The Troll

  • Reminds me of how I felt when my Ex wife Left! LOL!

  • It was shocking to see a pop star with short, short hair back then. What is the deal about his short hair? Was he in the Army reserves or something? Couldn't be a fashion statement because all the kids adored the long hair.

  • @huskyjerk That's Don Dannemann. He had just got out of the Coast Guard. His partner Tom Dawes was playing for Simon and Garfunkel on their tour and Paul Simon played this song for him, and as soon as Don was back, they recorded it immediately. Well by the time they showed up here on "Hullabaloo", Don's hair had not grown out enough yet.

  • @hormelinc Thanks very much!

  • @huskyjerk

They were just before long hair. That was more '67 and later.

  • @VirginiaWolve Nope. I was there, and their short haircuts were an anomaly by the time this was recorded. It was, ironically, a "radical" statement to have such short hair by then. I know, I was there then.

  • who were the 5 zeros that didn't like this?

  • ffffing fantastic thank you a great post

  • Sweet.. I was about 3 in 1966.. This was the version I remember!

  • the guy on the right reminds me of steve-o

  • If I never hear your name again...

  • the cyrkle opened for the beatles at shea stadium. my grandmother and aunt saw that show. their both gone from us now. I got the ticket stubs they had saved over the years, they both loved the beatles

  • i love this song

  • I not only love this song, but this performance, where the two guitarists clearly like and respect each other and are enjoying themselves.

  • @mezzoly Um, they're lipsyncing to the record...

  • @NeoAdamite Really???? Neo, of course they are lipsyncing. What I like is that they are enjoying what they are doing and seem to have respect and affection for one another.

  • hard to believe these guys partyed with the beatle.

  • John Lennon was responsible for giving them their name. Supposedly it happend on a flight from the US to London.

  • You're just sad because you couldn't get any.

  • Written by Paul Simon. There were four Cyrkles (Cyrki?). The pride of Sigma Nu, Lafayette College, Easton Pennsylvania. Go 'Pards.

  • @gmartinz01 - "Cyrki?" Toooo Funny!!!!

  • I've loved this song since I was young.

  • My cousin Marty from Ocean NJ on drums. Seeing him on TV inspired me to a life of music at an early age. A great drummer and a great band!

  • @alvis1515 Not a drummer, now but I used to be and I love your cousin's work!!

  • a cheerful fuckoff song ! the guy playing the doubleneck is bouncing back and forth from bass to rhythm- very nice gibson guitars they have..wonder if they still have them !

remember the song being played on the radio alot in 1967..

  • Bubblegum music from the 60's. I like it though.

  • streetlight's version of this is the shit!

  • Paul Simon says they stole it from him.

Always liked Turn Down Day better.

You can tell they were all National Guarders (read legal draft dodgers) on holiday,

  • @brianallancobb PAUL SIMON WROTE THIS TUNE AND HE OFFERED THE SONG TO DAN DOBBERMAN AFTER SOME SUCCESS IN THE RECORD INDUSTRY DON DECIDED TO WRITE JINGLES FOR TV AND RADIO.......PLOP PLOP FIZZ FIZZ OH WHAT A RELIEF IT IS ALKA SELTZER THATS ONLY ONE OF THE THOUSANDS HE WROTE

  • @JOEP123ful I MADE A BIG TYPO....HIS NAME IS DON DANNEMAN SORRY FOR THAT SCREW UP...

  • This song goes just right with what I'm going through right now. Thanks for posting.

  • This song rules!!!!

  • Named after the roundabout in Easton...

  • these are clearly Paul Simon lyrics, but these guys made it their song...I remember when it came out.

  • Carol - this song got me through some broken romances. Lifted my spirits.

  • This was a mega hit in the mid 60s. The song was written by Paul Simon. These guys opened for the Beatles a number of time. Their other hit was Turned Down Day.

  • seekers version is the best

  • Awesome Paul Simon tune!

  • Awesome Paul Simon tune!!!!

  • Thanks for this post, for the deaf with lyrics so all can read.

  • I think Paul Simon wrote this song for them.

  • One of the best 'I'm over the break-up' songs ever.

  • the lyrics written out does make you appreciate the song more.....good post

  • @echovoice, What? Can't hear you.

  • @deafsubtitles He's just a punk still sucking on his mothers tit!

  • @echovoice if you were snoozing why come hear and post a comment? they were good next time dont bother with letting people notice what a boring person you seem to be. everyone has a talent yours seems to be nothing

  • @lobasplace and yours seems to be trolling comments. Bravo. Got a degree in that didja? from Whatsamatta U?

  • They're from Easton, PA - I wonder if they named themselves Cyrcle after the circle in downtown Easton? In those days, it was the local landmark of the town.

  • @LaJewel, it was one of the Beatles who gave them the name. If you check the comments you'll find the name of which Beatle did, either George or John.

  • @deafsubtitles John Lennon

  • @deafsubtitles

    John Lennon.

  • @deafsubtitles It was John that suggested the name with a y instead of an i

  • @LaJewel

They were not from Easton, PA, Tom Dawes is my cousin I should know.

  • Hey people, this was one of the few groups who could open up a concert for the Beatles and not be shouted down with "We want the Beatles." John Lennon came up with this groups name. Even though Brian Epstein was the manager of the Beatles, he told the manager of the Cyrkle to run with the song Red Rubber Ball because it was that good and they were with Columbia records. The Beatles were with Capitol. In the sixties it wasn't all about hair - a lot of it was in our heart and soul.

  • WOW they all look so modern here! so 1990's hard to believe this is 66

  • @kyolym I agree, they look like kids from today's time.

  • Love this song. I especially like singing it early in the morning.
