@coreyorama Nope, this show is sold on ebay as Johns last performance but it actually was in '99 AND was part of a scam - google the who vegas job internet scam
Best song on Tommy. Tommy was no where near as good as The Wall. The Who is a great band but Floyd is the greatest in my opinion not everyone will agree.
I think what made the Who great is that each of the musicians played however they want, regardless of how it sounded in "the mix." Listen to Entwistle popping those bass notes. It would sound out of place in any other band. Moon's drumming is another good example...
I think he still preforms very well... but after 2+ hours of rocking the house down... the mans voice is entitled to be slightly weak... I saw Roger last night in Denver and he was as great as the 1st time I saw him more than 30 years ago...He also looks amazing...
I love the who and this is one of my favourite songs but to be honest if you cant sing the song anymore then dont perform it live. There is no life in their performance, they dont look like they want to be on stage. Im comparing this to the woodstock version which is the greatest ever live performance by any band so my comments are a bit harsh.
For the present-day Who, I agree with you. I think they can't perform it well anymore, and I'm an absolute Who-freak. I think it should be abolished with the Tommy encore that has been in place since 2002 - while of course dropping a Tommy song or two somewhere in the set.
However, I think this is a fine performance. Roger sounds great, and if there's a bit of fire lacking, it's Zak since this was possibly the first time he had even played See Me Feel Me live. Pete seems to be on fire to me.
funny you say that cause the Who regard Woodstock as the worst gig they ever played. And I've heard Roger sing this and he still has it 40 years after he first sang it
well of couse that was 20 year before so there not so good and they have a diffrent drummer so that may account for it, and also even if roger was tone deaf and pete was missing a finger all the emotions in the room would make it seem like them in 1970's
I heard that when this tune was being written Roger just totally blew everyone away with his opener and Pete got jealous and came up with the "listening to you" melody which in itself is actully a new tune.
They should have continued the opening ballad and made the whole song around that, which in my opinion is pure genius talent.
Sorry to break up the lauding of Daltrey's vocal performance here, but did anyone actually pay attention to performance?
Here's a hint that Roger wasn't quite on the top of his game - Pete's microphone is LOUDER!
Rog's voice was shit for the 1999 and 2000 shows. Since 2002 he's regained some of the power he lost, thankfully. At least enough to put this performance to shame.
hey, me too! My friend and I actual snuck up to seats right next to the stage, and stayed there the entire show. But not before getting kicked out of a couple of other spots.
I was wondering if your friends were a couple of the ones who got kicked out of the seats next to me, but if you were born in '79, I doubt it. They were about 15 or so. I was on the floor in section G. I'll be going back there to see Metallica in January. Funny encountering someone on here who was at the same show!
actually, i wasnt born in 79, its just a random number. The seats we got kicked out of were close to the stage (if you were standing on the stage i would have been to the right). then we got kicked out of other seats that were pretty close to there. Then, finally, we remained in seats we snuck into that were almost directly opposite the ones we first snuck into. We got kicked out by this up-tight looking old guy.
You're lucky that you got to be so close, if only for a short amount of time! My seats were good. I was close enough to be able to see everyone's faces, but this woman in front of me was so tall and kept talking to the person with her the whole time, so they would lean in, lean out, etc. and I would have to change my stance and it was so aggravating. When they finally bumped heads, my friend and I died laughing to the point of tears. I'm tall for a woman, but this chick was f'n Sasquatch!
I always thought this was two tunes but See Me piece is an absolute classic...if that was a long piece turned into a full 3:40 track it would extend the incredible vibe and feeling in the opening minute or so....
Sempre capaci di stupire... Soprattutto con questa canzone FANTASTICA!!! GRAZIE ROGER GRAZIE JOHN GRAZIE PETE GRAZIE ZAK e per ultimo ma non certo da ultimo GRAZIE MITICO KEITH!!!
Pete's really trying just to get back into playing electric again here. It had been some 23 years since he'd played the thing live in a five piece like that, after all.
Maybe Pete is paying tribute to his inspirtaion of his windmill- watch the The Who live on the Smother's Brother's where Pete says bowling is the inspirtation behind the windmill. lol Either way love them!
The Who are still amazing...how many other bands are still going like this? Pete and Roger are on point as always, please don't say anything negative about the greatest band of all time. I love the Beatles, but if they were still playing in 2008, I doubt they would sound half as well as The Who, and I'm saying this as the Beatles are my fav band. They're in their 60's and rock out more than most 20 year olds! They are truly timeless!
That's exactly the thing I said too. He died while they were on tour but Pete and Roger found another bassist and continued. Guess the show must go on huh? I thought it tasteless.
Pete doesn't do many windmill whirlies on that guitar anymore. He almost impaled his hand on the whammy bar. Besides, rotator cuffs get old too.
By the way the simple reason John isn't singing here is because at his point, after 40+ years of smoking tobacco and God knows what else, his voice was shot to shit.
What has hald up surprisingly well are Pete's vocals. He can be a blues wailer or a castrata.
It's too bad as he used to be the most versatile vocalist in probably all of rock and roll. His range was incredible. The same guy doing to grunt on "Boris the Spider" was doing falsettos on "A Quick One". It's astounding.
I saw this tour (with Zach on drums) I love the Who, I wish I had been born in the sixties so I could have enjoyed this music that much longer. Sad to think by the time I have kids I won't be able to take them to see The Rolling Stones, Yes, and The Who. I'm not loving this video, they played it better at the concert I saw, great band though and great song.

I agree The Who in Marlay park was an amazing gig, they sounded alot better than they do in this video, i could not believe how good Roger Daltreys voice was he sounded exactly like he did in the sixties and so did pete, i actually thought this song sounded better in marlay park than the woodstock version, The Who still to this day put on one of the best live shows around with a great set list of classics and new material.
