My window is in the full down position. I can't get to the bolts that hold the clamps to the window. Is there a way to "hot" wire the motor to just get the window up for now? I can't budge it. Raining in Oregon :(
@12beastman You should be able to push the window into the up position from inside of the door with your hand. then you can use the painters tape to hold it in the up position, so that you can remove it from the window regulator. Hope this helps you out.

I know that this video is for 99 and newer, but for those who have a silverado 89-96, when changing the regulator on those models, be very carefull of the heavy duty spring that is coiled to help the regulator move up and down. Be sure to use a c-clamp or something to make sure that spring does not work itself loose when drilling the rivets that hold the motor and reg. together. I realized this once that spring narrowly screwed up my hand.
@The480345 We do carry just the regulator with out the motor on our website also, here's a link to them on our site. 1aauto.com/1A/WindowRegulators/Chevy/Suburban/-/-/2000
I hoping it is just the motor. because i heard it dieing all the time but my mom never got to it. I bought a new one and installed it and cut my hand open in 4 places because they thought it would be a good idea to leave the window down to make it easier to get to above....
i really really need a video on how to get the window back in the door. all i can find is window regulator videos. i need to see how to put the actual glass window back in.
this is a good video but i am looking for the plans or schematics for my dads 1999 chevy silverado 1500 i was wondering if you knew where to find any thx :)
The Motor in my power window went out, and this guide helped me get the door panels off. Thanks!
One problem I'm having is re-stringing the wire that connects the motor to the tops of the tracks and then down to the clamps that the glass sits in. Each time I try, there is too much slack and the window won't raise or lower correctly.
@AvidDesigner Same thing happend to me. You have to take the motor off the track and then the circular part that holds all the slack needs to be popped off so you can run some of the wire around it and then put it back in place and secure it with the motor
Thank you Mike for this video!!! My '03 Silverado had a failed wiindow. I took the door apart and found the cable frayed and jammed. I was a bit afraid of this repair but you made it look SO easy! I called around and the local garages wanted $375 to do this. I got the assembly for $99 and had it installed and the door together in less than an hour. Thank you for your videos!
You rock! I'm going to give this a try tomorrow...hopefully this stay at home mom can handle it with my 2001 Chevy Suburban, aka, Taxi to my kids and all the neighborhood!
WOW!! I definitely have to tip my hat to you! You have no clue how stressed I was when my wife came outside and saw my tools everywhere! I took a deep breathe and logged on the "last resort" the internet, and found your informative video! It literally took me about "18min" to have the old one off and the new one in, as I backed out my driveway! I will definitely do business with 1aauto.com for any parts I need in the future. Thanks again
@laaxe LOL, Funny because I used my fathers truck to do this video, when I showed him how it was done he commented something to the effect of, "oh it is that easy?" Glad to help.
great vid. this is very helpfull. i work at a chev dealer. i have done manual regulators on these years, and i do alot of door handles so i know how everything comes apart. i own an '03 and think i have to do the pass side one on it. it goes really slow up and down, kind of binds in the middle, but it goes fast near the top or near the bottom.
i have an 2007 clasic and live in cold weather, last week i could hear window regulator working but not going up and down. then it thawed and dropped now if thawed it works but is not attached to the clamps i think. could i just remove door panel and reclamp or do you think somthing may be broken on the clamling setup?
@bobsyphrit You have the right idea, take the door panel off and investigate. The most common problem is the window regulator breaking but in the cold the mounts to the window could have broken off.
I have a 2000 Chevy Astro. How can you tell if it is the motor or the regulator that needs to be replaced on the power windows? Also, is the video on the GMC Sierra 1999-2006 a close representation to the 2000 Chevy Astro?
@1commuterguy If your motor goes bad your window will just stop working, it may move up and down slow before it stops. If your reg goes bad you will hear squeking and general friction noises from your door while the motor is still working. Also an indicator that you reg is worn is if you window can move excessively by hand. The Astro has a differnt style reg. This video provides an outline it is not a good representaion. Check out our camry regulator vid to see a scissor style.
@tinhi1 A good mech can do it in less than 1 so I'd say a good quote is 1.5 or 2 to stretch it. On the other side though if you proposed to the mechanic that you are buying the part then they may tack on extra because they normally make money on parts and they do need to make money.
I don't really believe I need to replace my window regulators as I've done that 3x in 8years. I thin it's the fuse with manual circuit breaker. However I can't seem to find a replacement circuit breaker FCB-M30A-B and then followed by 5D22. Does anyone know where I may be able to find this item?
@arbrug Once you get in the door it may be very similar, the problem is the door panel is different. I don't have a dodge to video right now unfortunately.
Excellent; very clear and helpful. Thanks for sharing with everyone.
