I first saw the F-22 in an air show last year. Before than I wanted to, strictly, become a Naval Avaitor, but after seeing the F-22 I started thinking maybe Air Force.

was at this show in 09,,2010,,no raptor,,this year they are bringing back the f-22 raptor. Now im happy. Last year they had to many stunt planes. From what i could see of the list of performers they wont be doing that again. A lot of disapointments last year.

Cool jets. But they can get annoying when you work midnites, and live on base right next to the flightline and they take off M-F every morning.

@nr4481 Actually no the closest thing the F-22 has had to combat is simulators like Operation red flag. And they escorted a couple Russian bombers out of Alaskan air space. The F-22 isn't needed in Iraq and Afghanistan. Mostly because it takes 30 hours of maintenance for every hour of flight.

I'm a ground equipment mechanic at Elmendorf AFB, and the crew chiefs work all shifts, yeah, but those planes fly alllll damn day, I know, I live on base..and they get serviced at night, rarely call in for equipment to fix them, and they're back at it the next day.

Im not apart of the F-22 program so obviously I don't know if thats all true. But many websites say the same thing.

@ihavtugo There's no way that's true. That's all just numbers shit. Yeah, they work on the fighters day shift, swing shift, and mid shift. But there's no way that there's 30 hours of maintenance per every hour. That sounds ridiculous. Those things fly all day M-F. And $44k per hour? Maybe with the officers salary flying it, the crew chiefs working on it's salary, and everyone else's who supports it on the flightline. Doesn't make sense to me. I'll look into it though.

The F-22 requires less than 10 hrs/flight hr maintenance. $44,000 per hour is true, but the F-15 costs about the same. However, at the time the F-22 price was quoted, the Air Force was paying for "one time expenses", now the cost per should should be lower.

The F-22 has no relevancy in the war on terror. Ask a grunt on the ground. Does he want a pair of A-10s with JDAMs five hundred feet over his head or would he rather have a pair of F-22's flying at Mach 2 with air-to-air missiles at 50,000 feet? You don't buy every nice weapon system that doesn't do shit when guys on the ground are dying. How many enemies have F-22s killed? Besides, the F-22 might be a sweet jet but it's going to be made obsolete by UCAVs.

The president, you hate, has taken the recommendations from the Pentagon & Bush's Sec. of Def. Robert Gates to limit the Raptors to 187 in order to buy more F-35's, littoral combat ships, drone aircraft, and pay to service men and women. Obama also increased the 2010 military budget by 4% to 533.7 billoin. Now there will be more weapons to "kill our enemies" as you put it. There just wont be as many Raptors! Look-up the info I spoke of and I think you will be pleased.

@SamuraiPie8111 F22 isn't that big at all. I deliver equipment to them on the flightline every day basically, and when I first seen it, I couldn't believe how small it actually was. It's slightly bigger than the 15's, yeah. But it's not huge at all.

It's bigger than the F-15....so it's huge...i just went to the 2009 Aviation Nation air show at nellis afb in nevada, i couldn't believe how big the F-15 really is.. and if the F-22 is larger than the F-15,than its huge!!!
