  • How do you separate the 2?

    NaNO3 + CaCO3 = Na2CO3 + Ca(NO3)2

    Both of the end products are soluble... how did you test if calcium nitrate was present?

  • @toothpick93 well first you can do a flame test and sodium carboante are less souible then calcium nitrate

  • @thegodofchemistry But you would still have impuritys in it... wouldnt the best bet is to use ammonium nitrate and calcium hydroxide? the ammonium hydroxide will decompose upon heating to just leave calcium nitrate

  • @toothpick93 your actualy right but after the attack in norway the laws here in sweden for chemcals have changed:( but you got the idea and the chemicals so go for it:)

  • @thegodofchemistry What chemicals are in ur instant cold packs? Urea or Ammonium Nitrate? tho i dont know if it would actually react... ill look around and see... Calcium nitrate is a pretty good oxidizer, Sodium and Potassium nitrate a better but Calcium produces a nice orange flame when burnt with a fuel like Sucrose

  • @toothpick93 you must be over 15 to get coldpacks in sweden:( but we have both urea and ammonium nitrate.

  • @thegodofchemistry How old are you? could you get some one else to buy it? i havent found a good use for urea yet but i normally buy ammonium nitrate if im planning on making sodium nitrate from it

  • @poleeed You can make it from Magnesium Nitrate and sodium carbonate or hydroxide or make it from Ammonium Nitrate and sodium Hydroxide or Carbonate :)
