Its not that I think Mr Paul is evil (as Mr Bush apparently is), but his policies would be bad for America right now (with the exception of pulling out of Iraq). In that, I agree totally.

But realistically, the eliminating the IRS meme is silly in lieu of the debt the current administration has gotten us in to. Mr Paul would shrink and/or eleiminate every social program.

His ideology is the same that fought liberals during the depression, during the run-up to WWII, civil rights, etc.

Being a "Constitutionalist" does not mean that one interprets the constituion the same way as others. DK and RP have very different ideologies and opinions on just exactly what the constitution says.

I think Dennis voted for it because it would have felt wrong personally for him to vote against a resolution which "rejects bigotry and persecution directed against Christians, both in the United States and worldwide" and which "expresses its deepest respect to American Christians and Christians throughout the world." ...

I think you could be genuinely concerned if it said that Christians were better than all other religions or that atheists were an abomination. Surely some people who are rejoicing at this resolution's passage think that way, but that is not what the resolution says. Peace.

As an atheist and an American I was disappointed over this vote too. It isn't the government's job to legislate religious opinions. It is also inaccurately implies that this nation was founded on Christianity. We really are a secular government.

I disagree with any form of bigotry, but I think this bill was a waste of time, and blurs the separate of church and state.

However, Dennis Kucinich hasn't lost my vote by a long shot. He's still the best candidate by far.

Definition of secular is somewhat unclear - some use it as an anti-religious platform.

I believe that DK voted for that resolution because of his spiritual inclinations rather than religious. On that ground I too respect religions.

Yeah, HR 847 is pretty retarded, apparently invented to reassure some insecure Christians, but it doesn't actually do anything as far as I can tell. It rubs me the wrong way and I'm not an atheist, but I really doubt DK would have voted for it if it actually infringed on anyone's rights.

Religious freedom means freedom to practice religion as well as freedom to not practice it.

The Government should thus not be "secular" but instead it should be "religiously non-biased"

For instance, the words "under god" in the Pledge of Aligence should be "optional" as it offends some people with it, some people without it, and nobody should EVER be required to say the pledge of Aligance, as that requirement does offend some people.
