Perhaps a more simplistic way to understand this would be to relegate the negative numbers to the past. Make 0 the present, and the positive numbers after 0 represent the future. Also if Heaven in Gen1:1 is synonomous with universe, then we must conclude that the universe is Gods handywork (Psalm 19:1) and He eternally exists outside of the universe much like we exist outside of our homes.
