Sublime as Shaw is on this track, this is Billy Butterfield's song. He just nails it. Shaw was a maniacal egoist - with reason - but he's happy to give this one to Billy. Shaw was a genius. In the top 5 recordings ever?
Stardust is without doubt one of the greatest popular songs ever written, the .Hoagster didn't write nonsense. Any version of this classic is a bonus!
@TedRob1958 .I saw a biography of Hoagy on the TV some time ago and his son said there are over 2,000 versions of Stardust by different musicians. This must be a world record. It was written with Michell Parrish in 1929 and is still being recorded.
The only other big band version in a comparable league with this masterpiece for all time, is the Charlie Spivak Orchestra version. But boy, this is swell...
I found the quality quite bad in these Shaw ones I did because I used direct capture to upload them. I'm not sure if I have that recording or not, but probably not because it doesn't sound familiar.
the best version of stardust ever recorded

Star Dust is the closing june to The Man Who Fell To Earth. circa 1977/8 If it's good enough for Bowie it's good enough for me.

Totally agree. This and the Charlie Spivak version are by far the best.

WOW! Great audio quality, and these aren't even the LSP- Living Stereo releases. No compression at all.
