Pete Postlethwaite played Giuseppe Conlon with great empathy and compassion - a first class performance. I couldn't go past this scene when we heard news of his death. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam a chara.
I'm always in tears at the appeal trial when they are freed. My RE teacher insisted that Gerard was involved with the bombing, he was adamant. I don't know much about the case, is it true that Gerard and his father were never in the same prison? I guess when your imprisoned for fifteen years for something that you didn't do, it's ok to take a dramtic license for the film for effect. It is a superb film.
@Liljengren "My favourite scene from one of my favourite movies. A touching scene that always gives me goosebumps." Agree.....the best emotional sequence, There are very good, but emotionally...like this one, no one.

Thank you. I feel for my relatives over there. The native Irish insulting Irish-Americans is of no benefit to anyone.Irish-Americans don't need Ireland,we honour our parents +grandparents struggle for equality. I will never return to Ireland, because of hostility towards a few" Plastic Paddies" have dared calling themselves Irish. That doesn't mean they are saying they are Irish, it only means they are proud their people are from there. God Bless to the world.
@vinnyhoags Only Gobshites would do that over here - you can be sure regular Irish people would rather Irish decendents such as yourself over those twats
@vinnyhoags you should return! Don't let a minority of assholes (who are present in very country ) put you off. I'm Irish 150%, proud of it, and am proud to meet any American who has Irish roots. As we say here- to hell with the begrudgers!:)
This has happened in every country in the world including Ireland. They were released and financially comphensated. Unlike all the irish men and women and teens tried in IRA kangaroo courts and murdered and their bodies never found. Google 'Jean McConville'.
RIP Giuseppe
