I know Sco needed to extend himself, but why did he ever move on and away from this band? Big cred to him for assembling this group for the 4 or 5 years they tore shit up. This song represents so clearl how they ripped it up and spit it out in the 80's. Great band!!
@CrazyHumano Yep, it's called Pick Hits, from the album of the same name. However, check out the 'Pick Hits Live' album as this is even better. It was recorded in Japan and the Chanbers/Grainger rhythm section is red hot.
@ TadRapidly - I remember going to a fusion night in Toronto year ago, I went to go see a couple of the other acts. Scofeild had just released Blue Matter, I knew who he was but I wasn't going to the show because of him. When the Blue Matter group got up on stage I remember being absolutely floored, along with the rest of the crowd, with Dennis Chambers. Dennis didn't only steal the show, he stole the entire night, it was an unforgettable experience
Lol! you cant understand it because thats not what the music sounds like, that was a cut from the original music, what you ear is a piece of two beats one over each other.
@RedHoodie1 Michael Tsarion is the worlds premier conspiracy researcher/lecturer/author. Dr. Bill DEagle, Jordan Maxwell, Leo Zagami and Alexandre Dumas pere are highly informative as well. p.s. Melting Euphoria is similar to Ozric Tentacles and Gong.
Does anyone know if that's just really short delay that gives him that sound during his solos or is it a filter? I've been playing around with delay, but i have a feelng its some sort of envelope filter. thanks
This tune always takes me straight back to my honours year at university, I listened to sco so hard that year but this tune was the one that used to make me feel happiest. Most jazz made me want to study and analyze, but not this, it's just great music. Totally dated in it's sound but so so so good!
I love that sco is made to read the charts of his own tunes for the video too.
Maybe it is interesting for those who think this band or John Scofield in particular is just so-so to play the Loud Jazz CD and compare it with this live (well...almost) rendition. You will notice that most of this music is written and -at least in my case- this leaves me with nothing but humble admiration.
I agree,it was a figure of speech, but when you see even non-jazz listeners being mesmerized by Mclaughlin or any other annoyingly technical but not so musical player, and yet be bored by Scofield or Marcul Miller, then one starts to wonder, you know...I think there is definitely a rift btw music consumers and show consumers...I wouldn't care less about how fast someone is playing, I always listen to the music...
I love Scofield, and of course you're entitled to your opinion,it's a matter of taste, but what bugs me about your comment is that you say he's overrated.I hardly know any die-hard Scofield fans (except me and maybe 10 other people) and as for his notoriety...give me a break, compared to someone like John McLaughlin,Scofield is an unknown. He's rather underrated,as far as I'm concerned.
I saw John and Dennis in Santa Barbara years ago. I'm sure Scofield is gettin tired of hearing this but Chambers stole the show! The guy is jaw-dropping measure after measure. (John is good too).
