In the late 60s while on a Thumb Tour of the south I begged a doorman at a nightclub Dave was playing to please let me in. He got me a seat in the back of the room and brought me a drink.
After the show I handed him a napkin on which I had written, "Dear Bro Dave, Your thoughts have guided me lo these many years, thru the doors of perception and enlightenment. Bless thee."
The doorman took it to Dave. He brought it back to me and Dave had written on it,
Dear hearts, if you want to partake of the joys of Brother Dave, I suggest you Google "laughdomerecords" and it will take you to an ebay store that sells Brother Dave on CD. I've bought many times from these folks. The prices are reasonable and the audio is excellent quality.
And so my celestial brothers and sisters I bid you good night.
Brother Dave was a personal friend of my dad's and older brother's. Honored guest at many parties. What a character.....helped to provide much of my philosophy in life.
I'll never forget the one about minister in the car accident. Someone stopped & said " You alright preacher?" He replied "Yes, thank ya. The Lord's ridin' with me." The other person said "Well you better let him ride with me before you kill him!"
i loved it please some one post more. iam an original fan of his. my friends and i used to sit around and listen to his albums when i lined in ca, tx, va and ga. missed a chaance to see him on stage in ga thx for posting it.
I listened to Brother Dave on my albums back in the 60's and still enjoy listening to his routines every now and then. So many bits of his humor that I can still remember...."NOT spelled backwards is TON; ain't that heavy! Let that weigh on you." "Ben Franklin invented the stove. Ain't that hot!" "It's not the pendulum as it swings to and fro, but the essence that drives it that makes us go!"
this is great...thank you for putting this together ! I had the honor of actually running into to "Brother Dave" at a restaurant in Birmingham in the late 70'S.... he stayed at our table for 2 hours and he did all of the great bits he is so famous far...what an approachable guy...and a brilliant comedian and story teller !!!
God Bless You Brother Dave! May you rest in peace! I listened to Brother Dave as a teenager. I really believe he was the best comedian ever. Remember when he said, "Don't tell me about your doubts, I have enough doubts of my own. Tell me something you believe in!" Everytime I hear someone say something negative that comes to mind. Too bad there are not more people out there like him!
Rejoyce dear hearts... I kinda grew up on that my mom and dad loved it and hopefully still have those albums.

I remember my dad listening to his LP's and laughing. One of the few times my dad ever even chuckled.

Bro Dave had a son, also named Dave, he was one of the best friends I have ever had.
He would bring his guitar, harmonicas, and his own great stories...many of his dad. He would sing to me all the time, I miss him so.
He was supposed to sing at my wedding in 1999.
I would love one more day, Dave doing a Dylan song, a story about his dad, an RC and a moon pie.
I love you Dave!

Sounds as though Ray Stevens studied Brother Dave closely.

My Dad had 3 of Brother Daves' albums. I sat and listened to them for hours. He was WAY ahead of his time.

Rest in peace Bro. Dave. You'll always be the best. My records are some of my most cherished posessions. I mean my ablums!
