They had this song at the beginning of the TV show FlashForward tonight. I remember doing this at my church when I was younger during Maundy Thursday service, so I had to track it down.
Yes! I just heard this on FlashForward too and it was killing me because I couldn't remember where I knew it from, then I remembered singing it on Holy Thursday when I was younger and it brought back so many memories... such a beautiful, moving hymn, it really captures the mood of the service.
My old church used to sing this hymn when the congreation stayed in the Church after the Blessed Sacrament was moved to the Altar of Repose in the Chapel and after the priest came back to strip the altar; the choir would intone this hymn and on each verse, the lights would turn off, each light that went off, was the number of disciples that were sleeping and could not pray in the hour that Jesus needed them.

Yes, it's very beautiful part of the Easter Triduum. This song conveys the somber mood. I love it.

J'ai 58 ans.
J'ai été à Taizé cette année en septembre pour la première fois.
C'est réconfortant de voir ces jeunes prier et chanter.
Merci à tous.
