  • i was wondering if a 5volt can also charge a laptop with 10volts? i don't really understand the voltage thing and i just want to be careful =/

  • Good Job Tinkernut!

  • OMG !!! Thank you so much!!!!!

  • i have a question, the connection i need to use to charge my sony erricson. dose it have to be from the charger or can i use the headphones connection????

  • Comment removed

  • hehe wire stripper

  • Invention Convention project right here. If you don't know what that is, it's a convention for inventions.

  • omfg

  • ok now i get lol :)

  • what

  • AWESOME! :D

  • xbox on the go >=D

  • @Dizmapler170 But how are you gunna watch what your doing... you dont have a TV just stuffed in your bag

  • thats GIGAFIDE!!

  • cool, actually a good idea :D

  • notice the person going the work is a dude most times

  • put a usb split on it and you can charge two things at once

  • Or, you could just charge it, like a normal person would do...

  • 1:10 It's gigafide also know as Tinkernut!!! Awesome! If you don't beleave me, look whats on the T-Shirt.

  • does anybody know what kind of diode to use for this project??? please help!! thx =)

  • @aleinlegs well it's been 9 months so i assume you have figured it out allready but in case you still wandering the 1N4001 is ideal for small projects like these

  • @aleinlegs When you take apart your solar light there will be a black diode with a small gray line on one side of it, this is the diode you use

  • OMFG SHITS REDONK damn i would like to do that but i dont care about my phone

  • this is amazin i'm gonna make me some!!!

    THANKS!

  • ....ooor, you can go on Amazon and buy a universal USB solar charger for $17.99!

  • PLUS SHIPPING KID.. YOU FORGOT! xd

  • can't u just carry an extra battery ,or better remember to charge your phone before going out

  • Batteries are expensive now a days. And if you have an phone that doesn't use interchangable batteries like the iPhone then it is useful. And things die after awhile too even if you fully charged them before going out.

  • or make the solar panel they just showed you, except just keep it in your bag or car for when you need it. you could clip it to you pants, shirt, bag, etc etc. Extra batteries aren't available for older phones or zune/ipods.

  • this is actually better idea then using electricity paying for it. It takes a lot of hard work to make electricity to begin with and it would be a little cleaner planet if there was no need in electricity. So the solar chargin method is actually cool but the problem is not enough people use it

  • That was crazy

  • too bad we cant bump for more howcasts like this

  • Wow, I thought Howcast was done making any how to videos that were remotely useful. This was a pleasant surprise.

  • thats just common sense, i could do that in my sleep. except for the soldering. i dont have tools for that

  • tinkernut jackets

i had that phone an it sucked

  • im making one of those

  • the only place i know has a volt meter is my old school and i cant go back there...damn...

  • finaly something useful. its been like 6 months

  • Of the possible 4,456 hours of daylight each year, the sun shines for roughly 4,050 hours, or about 90% of the time in the City i live in, so this would be actually very usable lol. But i'm not going to do it, i have a spare battery my phone came with so im good.

  • wow finally an usuful video from howcast!!!

  • Wow, that is so cool, too bad i dont have the patience to try it...

  • seems like more trouble than it's worth. :S but VERY cool idea. I like it. :)

  • Now that's cool, I might try it O.O

  • 5 stars and faved

  • hey, does annyone know where i can buy that wire stripper? :)

seems kinda good to use ;)

  • Probably a hardware store like Home Depot.

  • getting all the items just to make it cost way more then just to go buy a new battery?

  • Yeah, it would. The cheapest part is the diode. Which cost like 10 cents but you need to buy a pack of them, that is maybe 2, 3 dollars. The other parts are pretty expensive if your only going to use it to just make this. A wire stripper is like 20 bucks. I believe(don't quote me) the cheapest voltage meter would be maybe 30 bucks. You don't need a wire cutter imo. Everyone has screwdrivers. I don't know about solar garden lights. A soldering iron isn't that cheap either.

  • U mean to tell me the things that you just listed..... you dont have??? Doesnt everyone have those things??? i sure do...

  • I don't have a need for them at my home. I have some of it but not all of it. I can easily build something like this at my school if I wanted to.

  • i think the most expensive part would be the solar panels, i got my wire stripper for 10 bucks and you can get a multimeter for 10 bucks as well(a pretty crappy one, but it will do the job)

  • most of the items will be in an average garage...just my 2 cents

  • well the only solar cells i seem to find are 5 dollars for 0,5 Volts :S

  • I got a really good multimeter for 4 bucks

  • so they sell strippers at home depot???? HELL YEAH!

    HOME DEPOT, HERE I *CUM*!!!

  • hey.... i went there, and those fuckers first laughed at me, then i saw a hot chick and i tryed to buy her, but those idiots threw me out of the store!!!

  • Not everything can be powered by USB cable. :/ I'm also not buying a new cable just for this purpose. Also, what happens when it's, say, WINTER?? Or maybe rain. Really, just recharge it each night if you're worried.

  • I think that more than for the actual utility of the solar bag, the point of this is that it's just a cool science project that you would do just for fun. Personally if I were actually interested in a solar bag i would simply buy one and not make it myself (they can be bought at various websites and some shops), also because my amateur copy would probably not be as good.

  • Yeah, though I think this one's just lacks the actual effective utility to make it worth the time. Cool, but I'd rather spend my time making a wallet which will hold my money no matter the weather.

  • wow this was a good video!

  • 1.10 its tinkernut!

  • GREAT VIDEOS HOWCAST :)
