It's actually an adaptation of the Korean comic written by by Ko Woo Yung who based it off an old Chinese folktale. Earliest versions of the whole concept was written in Ming dynasty novels.

There is a 2004 version made by TVB under the same name 怪俠一枝 probably based on the original story and not the comic. The Korean drama Iljimae was based off the comic but that story was a little different from the comic because the production people couldn't get the rights too it. Anyway, I enjoyed them all.

i enjoyed this drama alot.... The fighting scenes looks really nice and real compared to other fighting dramas..Glad they didn't used alot of special effect in here.
