@michaelb3439 I get what you mean, but federal law says that in situations like this, SWAT have to take care of it. Of course you could have that one cop that says "fuck the SWAT" and runs in there and saves the day, but he would've lost a job, maybe his life. No one wants to go into that situation. Which waiting for the killers to kill themselves isn't a great way to minimize damages. They hid bombs everywhere, but when they failed, they started shooting kids. Was it a hostage situation? No one knew at the time. Being a cop myself, I can't tell you how I'd react. No one is prepared for situations like Columbine. It's easy to criticize the cops, we always get the blame.

And for your information, I've researched Columbine in and out. I've read through the police reports, journals left behind, home video footage (minus the unreleased basement tapes, although I have read the released transcripts for those), the few audio tapes, and the few recovered pages from Eric's website.

If someone is hell bent on carrying out a massacre, they will go to the utmost means to do so and only if they get unlucky or truly go about it stupidly will they get caught. All that we can really do is do our part to try and prevent the factors which build up a person's hate to carry out such an event. Bully prevention is the first step.

However, I believe if the American Education System gets serious about it and starts applying severe punishments and incentive for kids to report it, it can be stopped. Although I strongly doubt a tougher system against bullies will ever be implemented, it should be the top priority in every school in existence.
@john2earth Columbine was used as a Police Study for Montreal PD etc in Canada. They decided that instead of waiting for SWAT and creating a cordon, whoever responds first just goes in and stops the shooter as quickly as possible. Probably saved a lot of lives in the Dawson College shooting.
@gandhicakes I know. Since the Columbine Massacre, Police Dpt. everywhere have changed their response protocol. Now police engage immediately once shooting has started rather than presume it's a hostage situation taking place.

And for your information, I've researched Columbine in and out. I've read through the police reports, journals left behind, home video footage (minus the unreleased basement tapes, although I have read the released transcripts for those), the few audio tapes, and the few recovered pages from Eric's website.

I've been following this case with an obsession so don't waste your time patronizing me just because I'm a strong advocate of anti-bullying and a strong hater of the American Educational System's current solutions.

As far as my response to how the Sheriff's Dpt. handled the Columbine case, it no doubt fell short, however it was one of the first school shootings of it's time and the police department didn't exactly have the prior history they do today to handle these kinds of situations. Although their was no excuse for the way they handled it that day, just due to how piss-poor they did, they now handle these situations in a far better manner.

If someone is hell bent on carrying out a massacre, they will go to the utmost means to do so and only if they get unlucky or truly go about it stupidly will they get caught. All that we can really do is do our part to try and prevent the factors which build up a person's hate to carry out such an event. Bully prevention is the first step.

However, I believe if the American Education System gets serious about it and starts applying severe punishments and incentive for kids to report it, it can be stopped. Although I strongly doubt a tougher system against bullies will ever be implemented, it should be the top priority in every school in existence.

@john2earth Columbine was used as a Police Study for Montreal PD etc in Canada. They decided that instead of waiting for SWAT and creating a cordon, whoever responds first just goes in and stops the shooter as quickly as possible. Probably saved a lot of lives in the Dawson College shooting.

@meany1023 No one was killed in the cafeteria. Two were killed outside. 1 teacher in the hallway and 12 in the library including the killers. If you think about it the jocks would hang out in the cafeteria so once that emptied and they entered the library they actually killed the kids who were as weak or weaker than they felt themselves to be.
Also, that is the killers in the video not SWAT. Swat didn't even enter until 4:15 and the clock still says 11:44 if you need proof.
