  • I'm so glad they decided to put a helmet on Darth Baras' face.

  • Yeah honestly the game lacks the most in space combat, SWG was the height of awesome for space combat and you can't deny that. It's linear constricted play with no option to even name your ship let alone customize it beyond basic equips.

  • What I find interesting about SWTOR is the fact that you really need to push past your initial thoughts, force yourself to play the game for a few hours, not even to level ten, then rethink it. I have a level 14 bounty hunter, currently on Dromund Kaas, and I didn't enjoy him at first. I forced myself to play for an hour though, and I found the game immensely enjoyable. I hope the same thing applies to space combat, because I'm pumped to jump in my mantis and kick some ass!

  • Oh man, I fucking love this game so far. It's amazing!

... But what the hell is up with this?! This is so disappointing. It's like they put it there just so they could say "You can actually fly your ship in space" but it's just a half-assed mini-game...

  • FAIL FAIL FAIL 0:21 Fail he dose not have a mask like in the game lol.

space battles well be cool maybe thy well do a pvp on space battles

  • They made it on rails for a reason. They wanted people to be on the ground and not in space.... Really, are you so ignorant and blind that you can't see that?

  • @PivotXL1 Making a Star Wars MMO and -not- having awesome space to go along with ground gameplay?

Really, are you so ignorant and blind that you can't see the problem in that?

  • @JohnIsUber247 That is "awesome" in a sense that it furthers the story. If you have such a great desire to play "Space: the game" go play galaxies.

  • @PivotXL1 galaxies was shut down permanantly the day the old republic was released

  • This grinds my gear this game looks amazing in many ways and the development looks outstanding... The problem is when they issued me a beta key I couldn't play it cause my computer has a lame malfunctioning graphic card and my monitor is f-Ed up giving me black screen errors and when it actually does work I get a blue screen of death.. Just Woah :(

  • JEB JEB JEB Z LASERKA!!!!

  • I can say that we do have a special project going on right now in regards to the space game that will expand the space game in a significant way, but that's not something that's coming right away.

Quote from James Ohlen..BioWare game head :)

  • The combat is boring and feels like Starfox or Rebel Assault ( I bet a few of you remember that game)

WTB X-Wing vs. Tie Fighter 2.0

  • Probably worst part about this game. Holding m1 and occasionally m2 if you wanna destroy turrets and that's all there is to it.

  • Has the feel of an old school SHMUP, very good!

  • Definitely designed for a 2 or 3 year old. So bad it's like a 1990 arcade game.

    Ground game is great though.

  • watch?v=ifQ8ASfOWRc

  • Guys, is this game available through retail?

  • Too bad it isnt pvp and its like starfox. :L

  • I played alotta space battles, as did my guild and we all loved it, the mission's scaled up in Difficulty, so you need to get those upgrades to get through, best part there the Dailys of swtor and im fine with that, NO GRINDING! Yea, could be free flight but i like the rail 9/10 from the people in Iorn Citadel server.

  • Beta tested this and its so forced, you have no control except from firing your lasers, and you can avoid enemy fire by going up and down or left and right, its designed solely for a 3 old, the seat inside are the only interactive thing. and journeys to other worlds take about 2 seconds in reality they could at least make you wait 2 - 3 minutes to give it a tiny more realistic feel to it, the space combat was supposed to make this game better but for me its a BIG NO!

  • Swtor itself is an awesome game, but the space combat system was a flop. I'm happy i can ignore the space combat part and focus on being an awesome dark jedi ;).

  • fun fact: when starwars galaxies was released it didnt have space combat . that was an expansion.

  • I actually really like this.

Also, this isn't Eve online people.

  • Graphix sux

  • @Paumonsu Can you name any games that has better graphics? BTW its not graphix.

  • @darthbrick9000 I hope you are joking. Crysis, for one, and that was released in 2007. And if you want an MMO example then look to Age of Conan released in 2008. Heck, look at the upcoming Guild Wars 2 if you want to see what graphics should look like on an MMO in this day and age. TOR does suffer with poor graphics, and anyone who says otherwise is purely fooling themselves!

  • @ltose this game has 17 planets all with a map the same size as WoW. you try running high graphics with that.

  • @ltose

    Aesthetics>>>Graphics

and I for one Love the aesthetics of SWTOR

  • @ltose The funny thing is, Crysis 1 is the game with the best graphics atm, and it even has graphics better than Crysis 2 due to them wanting to make Crysis 2 for xbox 360 and ps3.

  • @xeratule

    bf3 > crysis1 > everything else

  • @FischiPiSti Crysis 1 still has better graphics...but I could say one thing, Metro 2033 surpasses Crysis 1 in best graphics.

Dunno whether you mean graphics-wise or gameplay-wise, but i'm talking about graphics.

  • @darthbrick9000 I can name hundreds of them. Starting with Crysis

  • Pause at 0:23, get 720p and fullscreen, look at his ear, lolwtf!!?

  • @TheGamingEXP It's a "her", blindy.

  • The more I see of this game the less I want to play it...what a shame

  • I don't see why people have a problem with this. I think it looks great.

  • Pathetic tunnel shooter. Too bad.

  • OMG I LOVE ROGUE SQUADRON

  • I hope the planets are REALLY BIG and hope they add a new planet every year or so...

  • I was hoping for more of a Eve-Online style of space game play. Imagine actually having the freedom to build whatever ship you want, Getting resources etc. Then pull your Stardestroyer on any planet and blast the heck outa it. Your guildies manning the guns, some run through the Ship hop in there ties and Just go to town. kill all the PvP rebels onsite and controll the space over Yavin, or coruscant for that matter. Thats what I am talkin! add joysticks too. Dont forget about the ground assult.

  • bullshit, its just starfox

  • @fafnir44 starfox was fun!

  • @GrumpyMcfart id rather not play a rail shooter

  • @fafnir44 You say that like it's a bad thing.

  • @fafnir44 And the problem with that IS... ?

  • @electramax Obviously that is a real space part of an MMO-game. Its just an action cutscene... I havent yet played it, but if there is really no space part similar to freelancer or SWG... then it is a problem. If there is both, then it is ok... I just dont know, looking forward to finding out.

  • @fafnir44 I do enjoy my starfox: the old republic sections. Tis good shit.

  • The bottom line is you can tell a more cinematic story with a scripted rail-shooter than you ever can with a free, open-world space shooter. All it takes for the latter to lose all immersion is to fly to the wrong place and miss out on something cool.

  • Big flaw of this game is the half ass space combat.

  • *squirt* *squirt* *squirt* , *squirt squirt* lol

  • The problem with all this "story based" stuff in MMO's is that we all go through the same stories. This isn't massive multiplayer in one whole universe. It's a ONE-player game with the ability to do side pvp and chatting. There have to be better ways than this, which don't require the missions to be "collect x pelts and return to me".

  • Not having free flight in a 3-D environment is a complete *deal breaker* for me. No interest.

  • Comment removed

  • why are people complaining? this looked pretty badass to me, especially since nobody said they had to put it in the game

  • Ships look like replicas or toys ... let's see final version :/

  • I don't care what type of of space combat it is. As long as that kick ass Tie-Fighter attack music is in it, I WILL BUY IT

  • really wish they would have taken what star wars galaxies had done, and allowed free flight, customized ships, and the ability to fly and just stop, get out of ur seat and walk around ur ship, THAT was amazing

  • @Xplicit0ne I loved SWG more than anybody could imagine, the memories on that game get me teary eyed. Even with that, you can't say space combat was done well. You'd just spend 30 minutes with laggy small fighters flying around you hoping you hit them.

  • Why even bother with space combat if it is going to be this bad? It's only one step up from a cut-scene. Just leave it out and bring us something with a modicum of imagination. This is a real turn off for me. I don't see why others are making excuses for this weak game design.

I mean come on! How much replay value is this current space system gonna have?

  • wow guess its starfox with a starwars skin. Kinda expected more

  • big franchise and this MMO will be a big failure in the longrun

  • Yeah... this actually makes a lot more sense than the SWG system. Think about all Star Wars space battles. How many have a sense of time and urgency, and the need for your ship to GO somewhere? In SWG, your ship can't really go anywhere during a fight, there's not all that much action, and every opponent's move boils down to "Crap, he's coming! Circle him!" This rail system is actually much more in line with the Star Wars feel.

  • Yeah but this is supposed to be an RPG where you get into the skin on the character you are playing. This weak space shoot-em-up shit is not why I play MMOs.

If you have never gone into deep space in SWG with 25+ of your guild at your wing and had a massive battle against the imp/reb players, or spent hour trying to loot that perfect ship part to give you that tiny edge in speed or firepower you won't really know what I am talking about.

    Personally, I'm disappointed.

  • @TheEskimosPantry Well, that's kinda what ground combat is for. And the ship's OTHER main purpose is to serve as your home and crafting area, so that's pretty useful for RPG elements. And I have played some of SWG, and done group stuff with space combat. 'Tis pretty overrated. No offense.

I CAN see what you're on about, but I just don't care for that myself. I used to play WoW, stopped mainly because of the fee. SWTOR still has that problem, but it looks interesting and playable.

  • @TheZacula I can also see you point, I was a space junkie in SWG so I am just a bit underwhelmed. I can see how the space combat wasn't for everyone though.

I really fancied something with more complexity and depth in space. I feel that if they have a half-arsed space combat system they are less likely to go about producing a decent one as an expansion.

The rest of the game looks amazing though! Don't get me wrong.

  • @TheEskimosPantry No, your point is valid. I just notice that BioWare's goal seems to be both story and recreating the FEEL of Star Wars films (specifically the Episodes IV through VI). In Star Wars movies, there's a real sense of direction and purpose to each space scene, so the rails make sense for what they're trying to accomplish. I DO know what you like about open space combat, but that's why I'm happy Star Trek Online is going F2P. Because that's how STO's space combat works.

  • @TheZacula

    That's bullshit.

You're justifying the fact that Bioware got lazy on this features by saying it "feels" better.

  • @sharku57 It's called an opinion. If you have a different one then good for you. I personally think it feels better. If you don't think it feels better than you can complain about it all day. I seriously doubt they'll change their mind though.

  • @TheZacula so wrong wheres the mmo freedom if you want a 1 player game its great

  • @jazzasax The MMO freedom is on the ground. And it's definitely there. I was part of the beta test (NDA was lifted last week), and I loved it. It was easy (and necessary) to get into impromptu groups. And yes, groups did make it funner. There's good interaction with companions (who are mighty useful), and the ground combat is nice and fluid. PVP should be AWESOME.

As for Space Combat: Feels like Starfox, but it's fun. You DO need to upgrade the thing constantly though.

  • @TheZacula HAHAHA! no.

  • @Perion Well hey, I was just giving my two-cents worth. I personally enjoyed the SW:TOR beta a great deal.

  • @TheZacula Sorry, but I feel that the main problem is two fold, one, space is such a minor part of the game apparently, and 2, the fact that they give you a big ship with an interior so early on rather than just a fighter. Say what you will about SWG space, it had greater potential as it was to be so much more. TOR would have to remake their entire space game in order to get anywhere near that.

  • @Perion I personally like the larger ships. Partially BECAUSE space is such a minor part of the game, it's nice to simply have some player housing. Add-on that said housing essentially includes a mini-game, and it's a pretty fun feature. It is, of course, NOTHING like SWG.

  • Yeah... this actually makes a lot more sense than the SWG system.

  • It looks very basic, like a shooter to be honest. I hope they deliver more for the space part of the game than I'm seeing here (especially the combat).

  • Wow I would think the Sith Empire would at least have a Jenny Craig or w.e for its members.

  • Eh I like the space combat on the battlefront games. Not sure why they couldn't do that again. And maybe a bit of the track shooting(or whatever u call this) on the more pivotal story points.

  • think about it like this... starfox was a rail shooter wasn't it? yeah that starfox game sucked too didn't it? derp.

  • It looks okay...

I just really wish it involved space pvp and possibly open space mobility.. I don't really like a tunnel shooter but that's me.

  • This space combat is about fast action packed entertainment. In which star wars movie did you see Han solo go to Chewbacca like: "Hey lets go out into space and EXPLORE THAT ASTEROID FIELD!" -Quoted from Daniel Erickson ;)

  • @nolielhaven you can make it sound interesting, but this is no EVE. just a liner rail shooter, fun for a while... but for an MMO, a little more is expected.

  • @Holret you seem to be forgetting that this is just a small part of an otherwise huge game. Where do you expect they take the resources to develop completely free flyable zones with 100% collision detection for all those huge ships / space stations were mission take place in a way that you feel engaged and under constant pressure. EVE is a bad comparison as it had a tactical approach to combat. Star wars is all about flying out there and getting into the heat of battle and suvive under pressure

  • @nolielhaven I get what you are saying, but it could borrow some elements from eve. such as buying your own starships, customizing it and fly anywhere you want. That would make it very interesting.

Dont get me wrong it looks fun and all... time will tell.

  • @Holret Yeah i get what you mean. But they can't prioritize the spacegame when the game has not launched yet. I'm sure they are able to elaborate on the railshooter in the future and patch in something that is truly great in regards to getting this whole star wars space battle vibe. I'm not 100% satisfied with this as well as there is no multiplayer option at the moment and i would love to do a spacebattle with friends etc, but its better they get what matters bugfree first :)

  • wow...coming from swg this is nothing!

  • @Monthigos I played Star Wars Galaxies with a heavy emphasis on the space combat. This system looks about ten times more fun. All that game was was spinning trying to keep up with ships running circles around you, over and over. Then there was the constant flying through empty space to whatever objective we had.

  • The space combat blows, this killed any interest I had in SWTOR now, I mean I can't even fly full 360 up or down, thats just lame ass lazy devoleping right there, where is star wars universe? Loading screens, cut scense and not even true space universe / combat, all with a huge cost and monthly fee, I would rather go play space invaders down the local arcade.

  • @ShinzuTakigawa Good, one less whiny brat stinking up the servers with stupid complaints.

  • @ShinzuTakigawa Oh there's a shock. You're a GW2 fanboy. What is it with you kids and the need to haunt TOR videos with bullshit posts. Are you THAT insecure in your choice of a video game? At your age? Really?

  • @ChildrenofAmory Because they need to try and steal fanbase from somewhere, they know they are not getting it from WOW. So why not attack a game that hasn't launched yet?

  • @malbolger Good point.

  • @ShinzuTakigawa Your an idiot. Bioware could of put in no space combat at all and just made it so you fast travel, the whole point of this is that it's a mini-game you stupid fuck

  • @welshpocketrocket Cool so basically its a mini game instead of real space combat and space travel which you would expect for a pay monthly game with a crazy purchase cost with a star wars sticker slapped onto it.

If it wasn't for the fact this game has star wars logo on it noone would be interested in it making it a terrible game to begin with, ground combat is grindy and boring, space combat isn't even real 3D this game stinks of fail.

They can't justify cost only because its star wars,,,,

  • @ShinzuTakigawa and thats why it won best of E3?

  • @ShinzuTakigawa Yes it's a mini game. You don't understand, people aren't buying this game for space combat. They're buying it because it's a Bioware RPG,

You think this game is riding the SW name? Then why did SWG do so badly? Bioware could have made this game about anything and people would still be looking forward to the deep RPG elements. Pre-orders are selling like crazy.

You stink of desperation and insecurity. GW2 looks great, stop making its fans look like tools.

  • @ChildrenofAmory You can't make a broad statement saying people are not buying the game for space combat and that there buying it for a brand company name? So you know everyone buying the game? I don't think so. The fact I like GW2 has nothing to do with my feelings and thoughts on TOR, a poor game is a poor game, anyone can see that. This is not a fanboi war but I find it funny the fanboi is excuse is thrown about when someone points out the flaws in TOR, so that makes who the fanboi? :P

  • @ShinzuTakigawa I'M making broad statements? Bold words coming from someone already saying the combat blows before you play it, assuming no one would be interested if not for the SW name, calling the ground combat "grindy". It's not broad, if the space combat in the game is minor part, and 350k+ people are still preordering it.

All I know is, you're yet another GW2 fan talking shit about EVERYTHING in TOR. If it walks like a duck..

  • @ChildrenofAmory Pre orders are nothing but since you mentioned pre orders 350k+ is pretty poor, this is from a source inside a well known company who talks about GW2 pre orders. "I work for EB Games Canada Head office or as most of you would know it as Gamestop and so far our Pre order count is currently at alittle over 1.2 Million." He also said that thats only EB canada so rest of world would be more...aswell as other companys.

Like I said pre orders mean nothing over loyal player base.

  • @ShinzuTakigawa The preorder sales info for TOR at this time is only recorded up to the five day mark. It's broken all of EA's pre-order records. It's outselling Battlefield 3. People estimate 2 million so far. The CE version sold out in a matter of a day or two.

GW2 looks great, but aside from action-based gameplay (which has been done) and dynamic quests (also been done) It's not all that innovative either.

Personally I'm going to play both.

  • @ShinzuTakigawa It's a shame GW2 sucks. You're comments would probably mean something if it didn't.

  • @imatooltoo lol You wish it sucked :P

  • @ShinzuTakigawa lol I know it sucks :P

  • @imatooltoo Is that why its already winning awards from all over before it's even released or in closed / open beta?

I think we will see after all is said and done. I have my opinions on TOR and others have there's, games a game I just think TOR is not a good game for lots of reasons already mentioned, most iv spoken to agree. Time will tell. :)

  • @ShinzuTakigawa I still love the fact that you think when you say something that it means something. GW2 fails, gtfover it kid. stop trying to think it might be good.

  • @imatooltoo You saying that is no different than that guy talking trash about TOR. Stop making the TOR fans look like idiots.

  • @ShinzuTakigawa how can you say the combat is boring its literally exactly the same as gw2 and why bitch about choosing one you can play em both and if you cant play sw because of the monthly fee play gw2

  • Get em off me, Fox!

  • The two of you ranting, is.... DERPAHERP I'M A FANBOY OF THIS AND I STAND TALL WIT MA GAM. DUR.

Ontopic, so this Isn't going to reward people how good they did is it...?

  • DO A BARREL ROLL!!

  • What's the difference between the red and green lasers?

  • @503leafy One is red, the other is green.

  • not many star wars games actually have space in them not sure why anyone was expecting anything more than a minigame for launch

  • @churplol I don't think anyone was expecting space at all, but if you're gonna do it, do it right. This is like if you ordered a delicious dinner, and then got an unexpected dessert.... which is crap. I say, either implement space battles right, or not at all.

  • @churplol Because Star Wars Galaxies implemented an extremely good space combat system very shortly after launch. This game was in development longer than both Galaxies, and the Jump to Lightspeed expansion, and the time elapsed between both their releases for that matter, and yet we still get a Schmup for space combat here.

  • @Cainus44 and SWG was a complete failure even before NGE released they were losing subs so i dont see how SWG which was made by a completely different company is a completely different MMO type (sandbox) has no full voice overs stories and a different combat system has anything to do with the development time of SWTOR.

  • @churplol SWG was hardly a failure, being one of the longest-running MMOs of all time, and pre-NGE it was downright excellent compared to other MMOs that were far more popular. Whether or not this is a different MMO is irrelevant. They went for flash and shiny more than quality, plain and simple. Space combat is an integral part of Star Wars, and this is a serious letdown.

SWG will still be known for having the better space combat than Rogue Squadron.

  • @Cainus44 just because you enjoyed it doesnt mean it wasnt a failure, why do you think they drastically changed the game, why do you think NGE even happened? because they are losing TONS of subs and were in trouble already, whether its a different MMO is entirely relevant because this game does not focus on space combat (and neither did the movies, yes it was there but it wasnt at all in anyway a main part of it) and you said it yourself, space combat came in after SWG had already launched

  • @churplol i believe 6 months after and yet youre here complaining that theres no space combat in an MMO that never promised it and is not the main focus of the game.

  • @churplol and not to mention isnt even released yet

  • @churplol And yet SWG still ran significantly longer than most other MMOs did, and it survived the release of a beast. It maintained a decent community in the face of complete mediocrity, and space combat remained the best piloting sim out there.

Again, Bioware's had plenty of time to implement conventional space combat, yet has not. Instead, they gave us shiny and FULL VOICE ACTING.

Quality is not determined by the number of people who like it.

  • @churplol And yes, Old Republic DID promise space combat, and if space combat isn't a primary focus, than Bioware made a serious mistake in assuming the Star Wars fanbase wouldn't care. Bioware is as bad as Bethesda about not thinking of the previous generation's fanbase.

  • @Cainus44 thats where you are wrong again, this game is based off of KOTOR and if you've ever played it you would know full well that it has no space combat and is still considered one of the best rpgs ever made, the previous generations fanbase is KOTOR not SWG, we are talking about games here not star wars movies kid,let me guess no one played lego star wars because the previous generation thinks that star wars cant exist without "real" people

  • @churplol It's completely irrelevant what the game is based on, Bethesda is still expected to meet its fans expectations and has not done this. And it's only loosely based on the KotOR series since it takes place in an entirely different century. And no, KotOR was not one of the greatest RPGs of all time, KotOR2 was. KotOR1 was shit in comparison because Bioware can't write an original plot or characters. Not that would I expect a 22 year old Korean Rebecca Black fan to know about it.

  • @Cainus44 its 100% relevant what the game is based on, its expected to meet its fans expectations, and those fans are KOTOR fans, not SWG fans, why would a game that actually wants to be successful and please the majroity copy anything that SWG has done, the game is garbage,no one cares about SWG and once again just because you feel SWG was "satisfactory" to the star wars fans, it is not, unless you know, the entire base of star wars fans cant even keep an MMO alive (obviously not true)

  • troll troll trollololol

  • @churplol and you're right, how many people played it has nothing to do with the overall quality of the game, but the quality of the game has nothing to do with the success of it either so saying it had a small fanbase that played it has nothing to do with it, how long a game runs has nothing to do with its success either, its barely survived because the costs of upkeep are so little they can still make a small profit and its finally being shutdown.

  • @churplol Star Wars Galaxies satisfied fans of Star Wars' space theme, and still turned a profit, even if it wasn't the cash cow Everquest was. SWG delivered new content frequently and ran for an extremely long time while turning a profit. This means it was a success. You fail to deliver any points in your argument and vehemently defend a company known for abandoning games within a year of their release. Bioware is mediocre, and this game will be mediocre.

  • @churplol If Bioware were smart, they would let Chris Avalon and Obsidian make the game instead of producing yet another mediocre, overrated RPG that values flash over originality and writing.

  • Star Fox 64.5

  • Ugh. A rail shooter. I hated... HATED Rebel Assault back in the day. They have the Star Wars IP and Lucasarts and the spaceship play they go with is on rails? Pass.

  • @TheBabylonPark Yeah, instead of making a good MMO with a fun minigame of space shooting, they should have just made it full 3D flight and not bothered putting the effort into the main game, right?

  • @PKP405 would be happy to mate if I had the page :( It was confirmed by a dev a while back on the SWOTR website, so best I can suggest is head over to swtor.com and try dev tracker on space combat threads. I'll have a bit of a fish around for it as well, hopefully wont be too hard to find again

  • @Dremoch Wrong. They already confirmed the space combat will be expanded to include open space and even pvp fights later on after launch. It's simply a side game to the main MMO feature for launch. Lotro has many problems, the biggest one being Turbine itself.

  • @KestelKitt Could you shoot me the link on this? My biggest friggin gripe at first was that I thought it would be nothing more than scrolling combat!

  • @KestelKitt Well that's something I didn't know about. Maybe they're putting something together after all... We'll see.

  • DO A BARREL ROLL

  • Star Wars: Rebel Assault (1993) if you remember it youngster. It is not funny.

  • They won't improve it and it isn't better. It wouldn't make any sense to throw the space system out and make a new one later. It was "costly" too . Have you seen LOTRO swap out Ettenmoors to Wonderland for pvp because it would be larger and better. It's just a convenient way to announce many gameplay features.

  • Who cares about the fact that it's a rail-shooter.

If they can make spacefights better that way...

  • @academicroach Because right now they dont have enough funds for it, and though the anticipation for its great if there arent enough player's why should they? Eventually they will but at the moment not right now.

  • well I know what game I'm (NOT) getting how the hell are you going to get lazy on the fucking space portion of STAR WARS that's lame as hell WOOO RAILS LET'S MAKE THIS GAME FOR WII WHILE WE'RE AT IT!

  • IT'S A TRAP!

  • Since this is an mmo, they should make it so you can man the ship with 5 friends or something, I know they'd never do that but it would be cool to have 2 friends on the turrets, a copilot and pilot with someone inside repairing the ship. Kinda like battlefront 2 space combat. That shit was really awesome.

  • @TheAwesomeIsMyName I'm sure someone will work that out someday in the very distant future :)

  • @TheAwesomeIsMyName

+10000 on this. Absolutely. This is an MMO,

Give us some more M, Pleaz.

-the combat in the First Movie showed us How fun this idea could be.

(I am also thinking of the dozens of Turrets on the Death Star, as well as the Millennium Falcon scenes)

but, I knoiw this is a Tall order.

    Don't get cocky, kid.

  • Dear Bioware and Lucasarts. I would be really embarassed with myself trying to sell off a shitty spaceshooting arcade game to hardcore Star Wars fans. There are a lot of good games like X-wing and TIE-fighter that actually managed to capture some of the mood from the movies, but your piece of s/¤t arcade tunneling flyer is not one of them. No cockpit view? No upgrading your ships with parts? No epic PvP battles in space? Jesus, this game should be called Ground Wars: The Old Republic.

  • @Strafka Agreed and no worries it'll certainly stay that way as long as the game's server is running because people wil payl a helluva lot money into subscriptions and there won't be needed to improve anything but some updates to make people's credit cards busy for years.

  • Great graphics, but it doesn't look like free roam space. Looks more like the clone war adventures space mini game with buffed up graphics, just flying forward and shooting what comes. I had high hopes for this game, especially when bio-ware was thinking about releasing it F2P or with a low sub-fee. However after seeing the list price of $50.00 for the regular version I'll wait a few months for it to be a platinum hit for $10-$20 bucks. I just hope they keep M.T.s out, which I doubt they will.

  • @Dremoch If you choose to look at it as them "ignoring" your play throughs then that's up to you. Personally I don't see it that way, and given the size of the SWTOR community and the fact that many of them are people who have played BioWare games like LOTR/DragonAge/Mass Effect and enjoy the concept of choices that affect future game play, it's clear that many other players feel the same way I do.

  • @KestelKitt Well it's obivious we don't understand each other. You simply miss my point. OK i accept KOTOR is finished and there will be an MMORPG with an incredible choice system not seen in any MMOs yet. And there will be tons and tons of references to events half the players don't know about. Revan is male good, the exile is female good and that doesn't bother anybody me dumbass. Huh.

  • Sure, in theory it would be great if the personal choices you made in KOTR could be implemented in your SWTOR game experience, but realistically, obviously cant be done.

  • SWTOR is it's own game, follows the KOTR path, but obviously needed a set direction to start from. Looking at it as a new game the potential it has as an RPG is immense. BioWare have made it clear that there will be numerous choices your character will face right from an early part in SWTOR and onwards, which will affect the story line based on your decisions, much as they would if you were playing a game like KOTR or Mass Effect.

  • The decisions will play a part in altering your alignment based on weather you choose to make good or evil decisions (and these aren't restricted by your faction. For example, empire classes can choose to play their characters in a way that makes them walk a path of good and vice-versa) And as an MMO it could likely go on for around ten years, which means the scope for long reaching impact based on your choices in the game will be unlike any other MMO out there.

  • I'm more than happy to accept that my individual choices in KOTR wont influence SWTOR. That's what the choices I make in SWTOR will be for. If that's not something you want, then complaining about it wont do you any good. The game is near release. If you're really interested in making some sort of contribution to the direction of the game then your complaints/ideas/expectations are best posted on the SWTOR forums.

  • @Dremoch I don't believe it's truly KOTOR because it's been mentioned. I believe it's a great way of them making a long running KOTR game series because as an MMO it will be updated often, and because the same writing team from KOTR have said that this is basically going to be KOTR as an MMO. Obviously it would be naive to believe everything we're told is always true, but I'm deciding to be positive and wait and see how it turns out for two reasons.

  • @KestelKitt I too hope Bioware will maintain to produce quality games in the following years, I'm just sad about ignoring my playthroughts. See: Mass Effect/Dragon Age and all quality rpgs found a way to let everyone enjoy THEIR story's continuation by the import system. Which point out that either because the aforementioned two games are the "main" titles of Bioware and everything else is secondary(with less detailed development: eg.SWTOR ) or they can't implement import system in an MMO ...

  • @Dremoch which leads to the conclusion: WHY CONTINUE KOTOR IN AN MMO IF YOU CAN'T MAKE EVERY PLOT PATH PLAYABLE? Must every KOTOR player(who played differently: 70%) replay this game in the preset(yuk) settings and do things you don't want in it to later understand the references in the MMO which follows YOUR? story 300 years later?

FOR Example: On Taris lower city(it's in SWTOR too) I'm sure the fate of the Promised Land will be mentioned which plays out differently considering your alignment

  • @Dremoch but no because YOU WERE GOOD ANYWAY so its saved and YOU NATURALLY DIDN'T SELL THE JOURNALS TO THAT WEIRD GIPSY . Playing like this is just as pointless as Witch Hunt was if you didn't romance Morrigan(again about 60%). Fortunately I romanced her and it was pretty good ignoring that it didn't autosave in the end and in Dragon Age 2 I couldn't import it(nor GOA or Awakening) and I won't play it again just for the 1.1 patch. An example of crappiness but flagship nonethless.

  • First it's BioWare and I've found them to be one of a small number of game developers that continue to produce quality titles. Second, because everything I've seen on it and heard about it from beta testers have bas been very encouraging so far.

As for COD I personally wasn't very surprised by that. EA tends to be very hot and cold. They get some things right, but more often than not they seem to get things wrong, and rush unpolished/poorly thought out games and update titles onto the market.

  • Which is why I was originally a bit worried when EA first took over BioWare, as I thought it would result in the same thing happening to BioWare titles. So far though that doesn't seem to have happened, and given the amount of time that BioWare has been working on SWTOR, it seems clear they're not being rushed to release it before it's ready, which is as encouraging sign for the game.
