while i can appreciate the sentiment of the homeowners, this approach of poisoning and killing via traps is not terribly effective. In fact, poisoning pack rats is one of the major reasons they thrive in relatively developed desert areas. Poisons typically take days to kill the rats. Meanwhile they become easy pray for natural predators. Secondary poisoning kills off the top of the food chain and the remaining/following rats thrive. People need to clean their property of debris + hiding places.

Buy a Cat or two. Then give it a week or two. The rats will be completely gone.
