acusing captainsurrey of advocating government interventionism is beyond silly
he mentions nothing of the sort
he was just whining over the direction microsoft has taken their operating system.
so what if they have included their own media software instead of providing ample room for real media player, so what if they strangle their own system with anti virus software. he's just voicing his opinion - my answer to him would be to simply not invest his hard earned cash in such a product.
I will tell you for the last time: I'm right wing economically, and therefore support free market capitalism. How I differ from libertarians, is that I still believe in minimilized government and minimal taxtation to pay for policing.
I understand your comments regarding Microsoft, but there are larger issues to consider. First, Microsoft is trying to bully smaller companies away from the market in several ways:
One, Microsoft includes Media Player with Windows, thus adding an unfair advantage against Real Player; it it was to be truly equitable in its free market competition, it would sell its Media Player seperately.
Two, with the new Vista OS, it has added draconian safety protective elements in the OS, making it much more difficult for smaller companies to develop security software for its OS. It has shoved small anti-spyware firms out of the way by adding its own Windows Defender software.
The attitudes of Microsoft and other companies like Intel seem to be shifting toward the notion of regulating how we use our PCs rather than giving us more freedom. Microsoft has introduced many ridiculous safety measures to its new OS Vista, which make it far more difficult to get any work done. The operating system should be a blank canvas on which we begin to do our work; it ought not to work as some kind of straight jacket, limiting what we can do.
Dude, it sounds like you should go into the computer business. You have so many ideas on what would be best and so on. Problem is, you don't want to convince people to voluntarily do as you please - you want them to submit to your opinions at gunpoint (government regulation).
Actually, I was just trying to explain some problems I'm having with Vista, which I bought recently. If people want to buy Microsoft products, even though Microsoft's practices are questionable, that's up to them. I have no gripe about that. I'm a libertarian, after all.
Part 2. Now, you say that "Bill Gates is being prosectued for success". Well, that's not something I relish at all.
But where he is prosecuted for deceptive behaviour and bully tactice which result in me not being able to use my operating system the way I want, I will at most express a deep concern at his practices. I will not, however, support the European witch hunt against his company.

Oh, ok. You sounded pretty much like a communist... Of course, Marxist utopianism and free-market anarchism are functionaly equivelant.
