Very cool video. I love how you made the music match the era. LOL @ 1:57 - 2:00. The camera operator's hand goes into the picture on the right side, he was probably shooing the little boys out of the way that kept chasing the trolley... I can just hear it... "get off the track you darn kids!"
great video but the song you choose for 1981 came out in 87. what you should have done was find a song that was around that time. anything from 1978 to early 81 would have worked. sorry for being a nerd.
@GregSidelnikov really, idk it just seems possible to me, just the the types of technology advancements we've had in the past decades are crazy. I mean do you think people back then ever thought that we would have the power to comunicate visually with people across the world right in your own living room? :3
You know, this was proven to that this footage was taken in 1906, because many car plates were registered in 1906 and the rain puddles were from a Spring 1906 rain storm, and was a week before the 1906 earthquake. I just heard of this from 60 minutes and really am interested in it.
Great video, but the last part of the video could not possibly have been 2009, because those older electric muni skodas were replaced at least 5 or 6 years ago, ie 2004 or 2005. Great video though!
@butring In the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, the basic uniform for working class men and the universal one for boys was black in color. Historical novelists have struggled with this circumstance. I imagine that lighter clothes show dirt more clearly.
Actually, I think that this is a pretty good compilation of how SF transit has changed over time mentioned in the video. I like that he has matched the film to music of the period. Also it is not meant to compare San Francisco to any ohter city.
A trip to the past and your computer is your time machine............

if you took all the cars and ppl out of the 1941 video, it would look the same as it does today

fantastic video mix. didn't know SF has streetcars during the 40s - did these lines become apart of the MUNI network?

The first film here is actually 1906 and not 1905! 4 days before the quake!

Geez. The 40s video footage could almost be from today except for aesthetic differences.

A prime example of how the technological evolution of man doesn't always mean improvement.

That's nothing. Our train system in New York is hundreds of times better than the one out in Frisco.
